i wanted to start a new thread. not labeling which songs are which, but talking about the songs they use, and why they use and when. i think the songs they use are perfect for the characters and the story. for the season 5 teaser they used Hurt. i thought that perfectly explained vic and the the theme of season 5 "I hurt myself today To see if i still feel I focus on the pain The only thing thats real"
The other song i thought they used that was completely perfect was Til kingdom come by coldplay in extraction. If u listen to the words of these songs then think about things, characters, and incidents in the shield you will realize the music is awesome, more awesome then just listening to without thinking about the shield.
edit: changed title

I totally agree.
I thought that using Live's "Overcome" at the end of season 2 finale was great.
Bawitdaba in Pilot on the way to the bust was awesome too.

Anybody else got any ideas/memories on songs/music from the shield?
I remember at the beginning of S02 when Acevada and Vic are at Vic's house agreeing to "watch each other's backs" - Blue on Black by Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Did they use the Johnny Cash version or the NIN version in the teaser. I don't think I saw that one.

The NIN version is still a real good song...But Cash captures it in a very differnt way.
I could probably look this up in another thread, but that song that's playing in Season 1 when the guys dress up as Los Mags and hijack the evidence van is perfect.

The cool thing about the Cash song, IMO, is the video. It is definitely worth the $1.99 download on iTunes. I can only think of a few music videos that have had more of an emotional or creative tug on my heart. Cash really acts the video superbly. Off the top of my head, I really liked the Nine Inch Nails "Closer" video, whew, it's intense. Also, any of the the three Kayne West "Jesus Walks" videos are great. Just my humble opinion. --Dan

Cash really acts the video superbly. --Dan THE coolest thing about that video is that he wasn't even really acting. He was just being himself; vulnerable, feeble, reflective -- he was in the twilight. A brilliant and talented man with a wonderfully colorful life! For me, personally, Cash's "Hurt" means the world. I get teary ever time I hear it, sing it, or even post about it! I'm so glad they used it in the promos; it fit wonderfully with Vic's reflective slideshow... I would be even happier if they would use it in a musical montage at the end of an episode, but I don't think they will; it's served its purpose. ::sigh:: "Hurt" by NIN was good (from their 2nd album 'Downward Spiral'), but no where near as intense, moving, inspiring, and powerful as Johnny's version.

the good thing about the NIN Downward Spiral set is that eventually Britney Spears will do a 'Johnny Cash' and cover "Closer" in an attempt to jumpstart her hopelessly passe' career

I really liked the use of "Breakdown" by Tantric in Season 1. It was the opening theme for S2E3, where they recap Vic burning the shit out of Armadillo. Then Vic is trying to do laundry. What a great moment...The big tough guy doesn't know how to wash the blood-stains w/o his woman.
Loved it!

I liked all my little words in episode 8 season 1. That Fat girl and 2 guys was supposed to be somthing funny and then it shows the girl dead, eyes wide open and blank, and claudette looks over at the guy who did it. I thought that was a really good ending.
Most likely the best 2 endings of an episode in the history of the shield is season 1 episode 10 when Dutch cries at the end and that song is playing in his car. Thats a really powerful ending because you kind of know why hes crying but you cant explain it. Then when the strike team is looking over their fourtune at the end of the 2nd season is really good because they never realized what it would be like to actually have like 3 million dollars. i mean if you think about it, what are you gonna do with it. You cant just go start buying stuff other wise people are going to be like " Where did all that money come from?"

I feel stupid for asking because it is something i should probaly know, but Was it season 2 or 3 that the song Anxiety by Black Eye Peas was the song they were using b4 the season started, like they used Hurt for this season.

Amazing choice of Smashing Pumpkins "Disarm." I bet the closing song for the finale will be amazing as well.

There's always the possibility that we won't get a musical montage at the end of next week.... how often do we get those in the season finale?

There's always the possibility that we won't get a musical montage at the end of next week.... how often do we get those in the season finale? Seasons, 1 , 2, and 4(I think, when they were at the bar and Monica was at home) all had one. But for sure 1 and 2 did.
