I think a great song for the ending of one of the episodes would be Winners and Losers by Social Distortion.

Hey guys. Does anyone know where I can purchase or get a copy of The Shield theme that opens and closes the show? iTunes has it but you can only get it by buying the entire soundtrack. The theme is only 0:42, and I'm not all that crazy about the entire album. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I love the theme music. It's manic, powerful, with a street-y feel. It reflects the community in which they work, and the tension of all the scenarios they face. It kind of has a primal scream quality to it.
And I have to chime in with the chorus to say that my favorite song selections ever were "Disarm" and "Hurt". Both are devastating on their own, but in the context of the episodes where they were used, wow. Whomever picks the music for the show (Is that the writers or the producers? I know the information is probably somewhere around here, but I'm too lazy to look it up)is just as genius as everyone else associated with it.
And with regard to "Hurt" and which version, I'll always choose the Man in Black. He earned the lyrics to that song, and it comes through in the atmosphere of the performance. Trent Renzor is good, but he comes off as an emo whiner compared to Johnny.

since we're discussing the music in The Shield, i have a random observation: they should have used Smashing Pumkins "Disarm" in episode 5x11 instead of 5x10, i think that would add whole other dimension to Shane & Lem scene. just my humble opinion!

My favorite songs that the shield has used have been disarm, hurt, overcome, till kingdom come, and trouble. Everytime I hear disarm on the radio, I think of Lem. ( r.i.p. lem..you are greatly missed). Overcome was an absolute amazing choice for the season 2 finale. I still get chill bumps when I watch that scene.
I take it whomever is in charge of picking the music for the shield is a coldplay fan, hence the two coldplay songs they used. Not that I mind much, since I am a fan myself. I love the use of trouble at the end of season 1. Vic is breaking down and trouble is playing...it gets me everytime. Till kingdom come is a personal favorite and I was quite pleased when I heard it playing at the end of extraction.
Johnny Cash's hurt is perfection and that song could be used to sum up the whole series, imho. Definetely like Johnny's version over Trent's anyday. And may I just say Johnny's video for hurt makes me tear up. It really strikes a nerve.

I have a question
I dont know the season, all I know is I heard this song watching an episode and the song has stuck in my head since.
Ok first I will describe the episode then the lyrics of song I WANT TO KNOW THE NAME OF THIS SONG PLEASE! lol
oK Episode description: Dutch met a lady and they kissed, I believe the lady just lost her husband ( he was murdered) she was from Arizona. Ok same episode different scene, this white lady kept dating 2 different African Americans and throughout the show you would see her every night with one of the men. And ultimately one man shot both the woman and the other man.
OK so the song goes: You said Im not boyfriendable - - - - - - I can make you pay and pay but I can never make you stay, not for all the tea in China"- - - - - But I can never make you stay ( its a lady singing the song )
I hope that is enough I think thats all I know of the song
Please help!!!
Thanx Mel

Don't forget to include "Nutshell" by Alice in Chains from Season 4 after the episode that Vic learns that Shane has been propositioned by Mr. Mitchell to off Vic. The lyrics had a theme of loneliness which blended well with the scene and the scenario itself. Also, don't forget "This Night" by Black Lab.
Anybody know the song that plays in the beginning of Parricide when Shane and Mara go ever the details of their alibi?
