Welcome to the group. We hope you get a chance to respond to our "icebreaker" questions as a way of "getting your feet wet." 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" I honestly dont remember. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? if we are answering honestly, i saw a scene of ronnie shane and lem in passing while i was channel surfing and thought "damn, those guys are hot" so i left it on that channel and couldnt turn it. i got all into the story and had to see the next episode, and so on and so on. i love it. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? i became a big fan of kenny johnson and was visiting his message board and saw there was a link to this one. i just liked the site. i think its very well done and its neat to read what other people are writing about it. 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? i dont like seeing people get beaten up over mild things but if someone has raped or killed someone and there is all the evidence and you just need or want someone to break, i say go as far as you can without it becomming torture, you know. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?i think its not that big a deal to say shit. i know if it were real life, in some of those situations depicted, an f word would be dropped at least a few times so, that should be allowed. i dont know about the sexual content on broadcast tv. on cable its already pushing it. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? the law and order series. 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? nope. i did get followed by two detectives one day walking home from work because they were investigating my brother for arson. they stopped me and thought i was crying and asked if i was okay. they scared me to death man! 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? it was a bit shocking to see him be a butt hole. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? i dont know. thats something i dont know, but i do know that all the other storylines with out chiklis do just fine for me. i like most all the other actors on the show. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? at least fifty 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? fair, i guess 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) my screen name is either my name or the name of an elliott smith song. i cant remember which one i put down as my screen name.

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" I was flipping through the channels one night, a few years back, and caught the marathon fx was playing. I was immediately hooked.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? The writing, the acting, the dialogue, the actors, the storylines. Everything. This show is f-ing fantastic.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I think I heard about it from another shield site.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? If we are talking about rapists, pedophiles, and killers I say do what you got to do.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? If it were up to me, I would let cable tv shows use the "f word".It takes a lot more than some bad language, which I use on a regular basis, to offend me. As far as nudity and sexual content what they show now ( on fx atleast) is fine with me. Broadcast shows should have different standards than cable because if you have a tv then you have access to those shows. Not everyone has cable.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? NYPD Blue, CSI, and Without A Trace.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Other than being a CJ major in college, nope.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I think he does a wonderful job at playing Vic. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? I love all of the other actors and I think they do a fabulous job in their perspective roles, but Chiklis is Vic and I cannot see the show continuing without him in it.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I would say less than half. Police officers have a lot of power and power makes people do all sorts of crazy stuff.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? It's pretty messed up.
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) I was watching Behind the Music: INXS and the lead singer of the band named his daughter tigerlily. I thought that was pretty and it just stuck with me.

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" Tuned into fx one night for the series premire, i love fx
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? Definitely Vic, i have to see what hes gonna do next. and the shield, No other show even close 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? Myspace friends 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? You got to do what you got to do, Vic always made good judgement 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? theres an extent, only because there are children who love to undermine theyre parents, and get into things they shouldnt.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? None actually, there to, to......(ok cut, now everyone go take a piss on my command) i hate that, this is raw, i have cops in my family, and i see similarities in the show and them. 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Yes i do actually
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? He makes the show keep going, lol is all i can say, awesome
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? No cuz then youd have another law an order, no one to spice it up or keep it real. you got criminals who shouldnt be breaking the law period, but are doing small things and are willing to work to take out the main problems, as long as they get the help from some cops who look the other way in exchange for intel or help. hey if your not from the streets who would you trust to get who you need, and things cost a price no matter where you go. if i had to knock off some ones drug competition to save a life or two, then i guess thats what im gonna have to do right. i mean the bad guys know that their time is coming or they can just stop what their doing, the favors the cops gave them are to let them know, and some of them get it and quit.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? you got assholes but what do you want, americas not perfect.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? wow thats a good one
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) just made it up

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" Saw the previews and began watching from day one.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? I'd have to say that it is one of the more well-written shows on TV. Everything about the show draws me to it though, what's gonna happen, how will they get out of this one? those types of things.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? Can't quite remember how I came across it, it may have been from a post on another message board. Looked kind of cool, so thought I would pop in and check it out.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? I guess it depends on the crime that was committed. Sometimes the things you hear about I think the police should be given much more leeway in trying to figure things out. In some cases, I believe the ends absolutely justify the means - "Good cop and bad cop left for the day, I'm a different kind of cop."
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? As far as they want, as long as it is done at non-family viewing times, such as Comedy Central does with their Secret Stash movies. Again, if it doesn't really have anything to do with the story though, it shouldn't be put in just to be put in.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Criminal Minds, Numbers, CSI.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? I was a legal specialist in the Army for 4 years. Got to see things from the prosecutorial side for a while, then spent the rest of my time in Admin Law. Also worked as a corporate paralegal for a telecommunications firm.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I remember him on the Commish, and that was probably the draw to the Shield. I thought, no way in hell he pulls off this character (Mackey), but boy was I in for a pleasant surprise. I do not remember the series Daddio.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? No, I do not believe it could. I think that there are certain characters on the show that really drive the show to what it is, and without those characters there comes a hole that can't be filled, i.e., Lem.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? Honestly, I think it happens a lot less than it is portrayed in the news. Remember, whenever something like that happens, it is the BIG story of the night. There may be times that a cop might get a little overzealous, but think about the job that they do and the things they put up with. Not saying it excuses them, but it certainly makes you understand that they are only human.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? If you have money, it seems to work in your favor. If you are just a regular joe, forget about it. Again, it has its good points and bad, but find a system that is any better.
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) Well, the st is obvious (Strike Team), but honestly not sure why I used the # 4.

Hey, paul2705, thanks for taking the time to answer the icebreakers--I think you did it in record time after getting your membership approval notice! Maybe that's an indication that you will be an avid poster, too. That would be great, but there is no posting requirement.
By the way, we have several other members from the UK, as well as many other countries around the world. I think it is really interesting to get international perspectives--it adds a lot to this site. Enjoy!

It's nice to have friends with good taste.
You're so right in your answer to #5. It's funny the way some people think about what should be controlled and what shouldn't.

Icebreaker questions about The Shield « Thread Started on Mar 26, 2005, 2:57pm » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to the group. We hope you get a chance to respond to our "icebreaker" questions as a way of "getting your feet wet." 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" Starting watching re-runs (Season 3) about a month ago on Spike. Was quickly hooked and bought Season 1 DVD to watch on an airline trip. Have since bought all 5 DVD seasons and downloaded Season 6 from iTunes and watched the entire series in about two weeks. AMAZING SHOW. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? The writing (plots and character development) and the acting are the best I've ever seen from a TV Show. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? Wife won't watch the show with me so needed an outlet for my new obsession. As I watched each DVD episode, I would read the discussions that were posted on this site about each episode. The forums expanded my understanding and appreciation of the show. As Season 7 approaches, I hope to add to some of these discussions. 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? Extremely difficult question and obviously central to the entire theme of the show. I see it as a case-by-case basis (sad to say, my view is probably closest to the various Captains on the show, as each has learned to let the smaller things go, but still try to reign in the ST on the larger, more egregious violations). In some ways, I like Danni's overall take on this subject. Put in my own words, it must be examined on a case-by-case basis. But there are a few definite "line-in-the-sand" infractions that should NEVER be tolerated - the murders of Terry and Lem of course being the most obvious. Vic and Shane simply must be held accountable for these crimes, regardless of any other feelings or circumstance. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? If it's on cable after a certain universally accepted time (9 pm CST?) then I think pushing boundaries is fine. It is not OK on broadcast TV or any other basic cable before 9 pm, IMHO. I have a two-year-old daughter and would NEVER let her watch The Shield - not until she is well into her late teens/early 20s most likely. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Nothing currently. In fact, other than The West Wing (I'm a mild political junkie) I have not watched episodic television on a regular basis in about 7 years. Early ER and NYPD Blue being my last "must-see" TV dramas - before that, just Seinfeld and Cheers. In fact, when Season 7 of TS starts 9/2 it is going to be an unusual transition for me back into episodic TV ... thank god for DVRs. 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Worked in newspaper journalism for 10 years, and ran across a few local police stories in my day (once helped about 20 cops/sheriffs search for a body they believed was tossed out of a car after a horrific late-night car wreck on a freeway directly in front of our newspaper office)8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? Extremely impressive. Certainly deserved his Emmy (and probably another 2 or 3 on top of it). But, honestly, I don't think he's the best actor on the show. Walt Goggins has just simply blown me away in Seasons 5 and 6. CCH Pounder is so good I forget that she is acting. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? I don't think Chiklis leaving the show would be the real problem .... instead losing the Vic Mackey character would be the unsurvivable issue. Mackey in many ways IS The Shield. The ensemble cast of characters is the best in TV, but without Mackey, the entire plot/storyline sort of crumbles.
However, I do like the idea of a "Dutch" spin-off some day. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? In some ways, I think this is more prevalent in larger cities with larger crime problems (LA, NY etc.) but the potential problem is there on any force. Personally, I am ALWAYS willing to give cops fairly broad leeway and benefit of the doubt, but when they are provably wrong of corruption or true brutality (not just subduing some d*ckhead, but actual torture-like acts), then I think that is a violation of a sacred public trust and demands some of the harshest punishment we can give out in this country. But anything short of this, I always give cops leeway. They have an incredibly difficult and most often thankless job. I know I would not have the restraint to be a cop. First child-molester I ran across, I'd use his testicles for target practice.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? The true corruption lies mainly in the courts and the political system, and less in the "beat cop" areas, IMHO. As in politics, money, pure and simple, can "buy" a court case (just look at OJ). And politics begets the unwinnable game of crime "stats" and the never-ending construction of expensive prisons, built by political cronies, to house minor criminals. Too much is done to the nickle-n-dime criminals, and not enough to the truly evil offenders. I support the death penalty thoroughly, and believe it should be applied fairly, justly, openly and MORE OFTEN. If you rape, molest, or murder, I really don't much care about your "circumstances" ... you no longer belong on this earth, and your bullet train to hell should be boarding sooner rather than later. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) The Shield started in 2002 and I just started watching it about a month ago (and finished all 6 years worth in that month). So I guess I am the ultimate "newbie".

Precise, systematic formatting, including attention to a particular color; long, carefully-articulated answers; has read discussion of each episode (really?); and, most notably, seems to have gone into practical seclusion to voraciously consume the entire series, to date. In other words, one crazy-ass, M-Fing shield fanatic. Welcome to the asylum. ;D

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?"
An ex told me I had to watch this show with him because it was so "intense" and in turned out to be pretty good.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most?
I'm a sucker for cop show, and anti hero's. So a we'll written and acted cop show is something I am garenteed to like.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join?
I was board at work, trying to find out when I could actually watch the last season of the shield and found this place(still not sure when its airing in canada)
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means?
I think cops shouldn't be able to trample peoples rights and not have to follow any rules. But then people need to realise with cops following the rules catching the bad guys will take longer.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?
I think that television content is to heavily censord(regular cable and broadcast).
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?
Da Vinci's Inquest, Intelligence, Law and order, Without a Trace etc
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?
I work as a front office person for a title search company and type of affidavits.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?
I think he does a great job as a real corrupt cop, but I haven't seen The Commish or Daddio.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left?
It would be a compleatly differant kind of cop show, but it would be interseting to see a show that centered around Dutch and Claudette.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?
It sounds like its(was) really bad in the US. I'm not sure what percentage think they are above the law.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system?
Its flawed
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? )
I was highlley uncreative and just wen't with my actual name.

Welcome to the group. We hope you get a chance to respond to our "icebreaker" questions as a way of "getting your feet wet." 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" First time hearing about it was at a friend's house - he's a Chicago cop and had it on his TV (his fav show). We had just been in a wedding for our best friend and was at his house with a girl-friend of mine. He kept dropping hints for a threesome, but while the Shield was on TV , I didn't care about much else.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? The drama. The realistic (and very human and very fallible) characters. Every week, just when you think things can't get any worse/more tense, they wratchet up the stakes - the most compelling TV I've ever seen. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? A post on IMDB.com . The boards there are packed with self-aggrandizing know-it-alls, and it's difficult to discuss anything re: movies and TV with courtesy and consideration. Coming here, I knew I had a Shield-home!4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? They should be able to go as far as the law allows. I would love it if the police had the wisdom and the ability to cross the line to get the bad guys, but our laws aren't designed for that. We inherently mistrust those in power (like cops) because power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely - it's a basic human truth. The ends rarely justify the means - but we have a lot of good, smart cops who do things the right way, so I'm content to live with their results.5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? Yes. Broadcast TV (in theory) is freely transmitted - anyone can see it. Cable TV requires a volitional subscription - if you don't like what's on, either censor your programming or don't subscribe all together. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? I used to watch Law and Order: Criminal Intent a lot (since I can't find it reliably on the dial anymore, I don't). I enjoy Burn Notice now (my only other appointment TV). I used to really enjoy The Sopranos (same reasons as The Shield), but unlike The Shield, Sopranos failed to maintain the intensity, for the most part.7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? No. I have friends who are cops/deputies, so what I know comes from them (not much, mostly it's traffic tickets and drunken brawls).8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? It's a bold move and speaks to his abilities. The Commish was very, very popular and it's a rare and good thing when an actor has even one role he/she's known for. For him to step outside that established persona, to play the dirty-but-noble cop, was a real risk. At the time, the Mackey-persona wasn't the norm for cop shows, but since it's become more prevalent: the cop willing to bend the rules to fight crime. Chiklis is a pioneer and his portrayal of Mackey is visceral and potent. Few, if any, others could do such a marvelous job.9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? No. He's the steel the whole show's built around. After so many seasons, he's not the only irreplaceable actor, but without him the whole affair stumbles.10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? Like anything, it's the few who gives everyone the bad rap. For the most part, I don't believe cops feel their above the law. But at the same time, there are regular reminders that cops feel an overdeveloped sense of power and entitlement. They do a dangerous job, but there are many times that their fear (seemingly) compels them to exploit their position to ill effect. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? Flawed and misdirected. Many of our laws and practices make a permanent underclass of felons, which perpetuates the cycle more than necessary. Our laws, in some cases, are too closely tied to outdated social mores, and in many cases based on debunked theories and understanding. That said, the more prisons and prison time for the real criminals, the better. There should be stringent policies for violent/dangerous crime, but when a murder does less time than someone busted for a pound of pot, it's time to rethink things. Too often, politics rule the law, instead of dispassionate logic. Defrauding the public of millions of dollars (pensions, retirement funds, etc) should be just as criminal as murder - the effect is much the same. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) ' Chunga' is a real nickname - it resembles something bad in Spanish, and I'm not sure why I got this name, but it's how many people know me. '95' is because of a significant year in my life.

Welcome to the group. We hope you get a chance to respond to our "icebreaker" questions as a way of "getting your feet wet." 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" Through FX ads. I thought "Oh, here's a show I might like." Of course, once I realized the 'Commish' was heading the cast I was geared and ready to go with it. I remember watching him in that old show and then once I saw CCH Pounder was on it too...I just had to check it out. Glad I did! 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? I watch it for the acting. I'm a fan of Chiklis and Pounder, but now I've come to appreciate the other actors I've discovered through this show. The other thing that draws me in is the storyline. It's 'gutty' and 'gritty' but not to the point where it's exaggerated. The filming and the tone of The Shield reminds me of a show on HBO called "The Wire." 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I entered "message boards about the shield" in google search and this site popped up, along with others, but when I checked this site out I just got a sense that this was a more active fan-base site. 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? Wow, that's a tough question. I wouldn't want to be on the other end of any interrogation...especially some of the ones depicted on the show lol. I don't believe it should go as far as physical violence. I like the "dutch" approach. Play mind games to get to the truth. Though mind games can leave everyone screwed, it seems more justified than beating someone near a coma. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? These aren't getting any easier I see..lol, I can feel the heat from this seat. Yes, there needs to be standards there because..it's almost like the last frontier...cable is seen as the thing where anything goes as far as viewing. It's a sketchy issue, but there is such a thing as 'going too far' even in cable so there should be standards for both.6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Law and Order (all 3), The Wire, CSI (all 3), Life on Mars, The Closer (haven't had time to catch the new season I"ll have to "DVD'it" I guess) Without a Trace, Cold Case....going back to older stuff NYPD Blue, New York Undercover, Hunter, etc7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? No8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? He's great in the role, but he's such a versatile actor so it isn't a shock that he's so good at going from portraying more honest or heartwarming characters to the corrupt and cold Vic Mackey. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? No. I don't believe it could survive because he's the center of it all. I tune in to see how his actions affect all the other characters around him. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? The majority of cops I've come into contact with seem to have that "I'm above the law" type of attitude, but I can't say for sure if they're corrupt or if they're just 'a@!holes' I personally believe that there are good cops out there who aren't corrupt and who care and are trying to do their jobs to the best of their ability, but they are a few in a bag of many. Percentage wise I'm guesstimating at 75% thinking their above the law. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? It's screwed up with many problems, but it's not so messed up that sometimes there isn't a hint or act of true justice being served...but it's not enough. The system is messed up and it isn't getting any better...I don't even have the energy to think about this any further, ugh. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) I'm becoming a fan of the new show on FX called "Sons of Anarchy" and I think Jax is so 'hawt' on there, but it was a toss up between him or Peggy Bundy.

Welcome to the group. We hope you get a chance to respond to our "icebreaker" questions as a way of "getting your feet wet." 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" I borrowed the Season One DVD when in the Army. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? I think because it is so textured and real. The good guys don't wear white hats and the bad guys don't have black hats and handlebar mustaches. The characters have elements of both, which is how real people are. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I saw the link on the official site. 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? My bachelors degree is in criminal law so I have a lot to say about this. But to be brief, I think that legislatures and courts have come to a happy medium on protecting our 4th and 5th amendment rights. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I think that broadcast TV should have a higher standard because it is free and available to everyone. If you don't want to see what happens on the Shield or other such shows, don't watch. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? None. I can't watch any of the others after seeing the Shield. The Shield has set a standard that no other show could possibly match. 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? I have a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Law. 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I was pretty young when those other shows were on and only have a vague recollection of how he was in those roles. But Chiklis is amazing and should retire with the Shield because he couldn't possibly craft a role as deep and impressive as Victor Samuel Mackey. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? Well, this is a moot question because it is ending and Chiklis is still involved, but had that happened, they would have had to bring in an intriguing character on the Strike Team and have Dutch and Claudette do the heavy lifting. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I think a VERY small percentage. But police are in such a position of power - at least can be - that any corruption of this kind is bad. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? Our system is by far the fairest and best in the world. It has evolved over the centuries into one that is extremely deep in tradition and precedent. If you hate our system, go to Iran or Russia and tell me how bad our system is. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? )

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" I started watching about halfway through the first season. I was a big fan of Boomtown and that was the first time I'd ever liked a cop show. I knew all the buzz surrounding the Shield but I didn't think it would interest me until I was flipping through the channels one night and there it was. Back then, before the finale, FX ran every episode all over again, so I watched that whole first season in the couple of weeks they were doing that. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? The anti-hero aspect. Morality is vague, there is no absolute right or wrong, every action can be justified. I like that it's complicated, yet there are moments when you realize everything you thought was all wrong. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I'm sure it was the byproduct of a Google search. Honestly, though, I don't remember. I haven't been very active here. 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? In fiction, a looooong way. In real life, I think we have a constitution for a reason. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? Basic cable and broadcast are basically the same thing now, and I think they should be treated as such. I'm all for writers being able to write without having to resort to language, nudity, and sexual content, but if it's part of the story I usually don't have a problem with it. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Boomtown, NCIS, Life on Mars. 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Not really. 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? He's really, really chilling in this role. I hope he wins an Emmy for the finale. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? Yeah, The Shield could have survived without Chik, but it would be an ensemble effort and the shadow of Vic Mackey would color everything that went on. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I honestly don't know. Don't think about it that much. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? Seems like it spends too much time on the wrong things. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) Same name I use on every board.

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" Was bored and looking for something to watch at a video store. Saw the season 1 DVD's to rent and it looked interesting so I rented them all and got hooked.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? The insenity, realism and the characters.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? Saw it as a "miscellaneous" link on imdb. The discussion was fascinating and as season 7 approached I wanted to get involved so I joined.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? Basically what Claudette said to Hiatt "You need to have some Mackey in you but not the whole damn thing."
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I don't believe in censorship so after a certain (9PM seems to be accepted), it should be almost anything goes in my opinion. It's on the parents, not the shows, to dictate what a kid can watch.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? I watched Without A Trace for a season or two, used to watch NYPD Blue and am a huge Miami Vice fan but that's about it. Nothing else currently.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? I've been to court for small things and studied a bit of law but no major experience.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? It's excellent and I was surprised the first time I saw it. I do agree with others however in saying that Walton Goggins is the superior actor.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? It couldn't have survived since Mackey is who everything revolves around. Maybe Dutch could have carried it. Shane was too unlikeable to be the lead. Ronnie and Lem weren't consistently featured enough. Aceveda probably could but it would be a totally different show. Claudette is another possibility. Either way, only Mackey can truly carry it.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I think a LOT of cops think they are above the law. I respect officers who respect society and I loathe officers who abuse society.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? I live in Canada so no comment.
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) Armadillo is my favorite villain in the shows 7 year run.
