Welcome to the group. We hope you get a chance to respond to our "icebreaker" questions as a way of "getting your feet wet." OK, guess I'll start and see if we can't get this one rollin'! 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" Ads on FX advertising their new show. (yes, been watchin' since day one!) 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? I'm always interested in cop and medical shows. This one even more as it's in Los Angeles (where I am from) and it doesn't sugar coat life down there like so many shows try to do. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap?" Ummm.... talkin' to the owner of the board. lol! 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do and that's all I'm sayin' on that. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? As long as it fits the realm of the show then I don't care. esp. when they follow general time rules (IOW, I wouldn't want to see The Shield in a Sat. a.m. cartoon slot). If they're saying/showing things just for shock value then forget it, but shows like TS are basically trying to tell it like it is so forget the brady bunch sweetness here. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? L&O. Interested to see what the new Kojak will be like (grew up watching the original) 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? not professionally but I seem to end up with cops as friends and use to work for a lawyer after he retired from that field. 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? Never watched him in the others so have no comparison. I think he pulls this job off VERY WELL though. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? Hmmm.... that requires some thought of which I don't feel like doing right now. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? Just a few. I'd say a very *small* percentage. In general most are just human beings. It's a hard and thankless job that exposes you to things most people never deal with. I know the bad ones are out there but the ones I've met have been wonderful and just tryin' to do their job right. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? It's not perfect but no one's come up with a way to improve it yet. Ky

Very good answers, Ky! I hope we hear from everyone else, too! Here's my attempt: __________________ 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" I saw this very interesting bald guy on O'Reilly...I was like, woo, I need to check out his series!2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? the complexity of Vic Mackey, the snappy one-liners and the unpredictable storyline 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap?" an angel appeared to me in a dream..4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? crack any skulls that obstruct justice5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I don't watch broadcast tv so I don't care. Cable is a choice...for adults6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Andy Griffith 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? my biological father was a police officer8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I first "met" Chiklis as Mackey...I was stunned by "The Commish"...well, actually, I didn't like it that much. He was so totally the opposite...Ky, you really need to see "The Commish" to appreciate Michael's acting chops. See post on contest to win first set...start on poem.9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? IMHO, no. Vic *is* The Shield10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I really don't know. Until some cop throws me to the ground because I refuse to wear a seatbelt (it wrinkles my blouses), I am not sure I care.11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? The best in the world...not perfect, but the best idea yet (other than the Romans feeding folks to the lions, that is)

Welcome to the group. We hope you get a chance to respond to our "icebreaker" questions as a way of "getting your feet wet."
1. How did you find out about "The Shield?"
I heard it was a highly regarded cop show...and since cop shows don't usuall come highly regarded...I decided to take a look....after the first episode and when Terry got shot, I was hooked for life.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most?
At first it was to see how far Vic will go. Although he doesn't break the law as much as he used to, now its to see the interesting character dynamics (eg, with Shane etc.)
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap?"
I got referred here from the FX website msg board
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means?
Umm...I say the law is the law. In TV land, Vic is ALWAYS right, never arrests the wrong person so its kind of alright to bend the law in TV...but I don't think that goes in real life...although I may say differently depending in the mood I'm in.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?
If its cable TV do n e thing and everything...if its broad cast...then censors are needed ...so yes, different standards
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?
Not exactly cop-show but...24, Alias ...and Blue Murder (a no name canadian cop show...only reason I watch it is cuz its filmed and takes place in my home city..Toronto)
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?
Nope
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?
He's amazing. Although I take a second and realize that other actors can/may be more bad ass than him...but Chiklis' portrayal is on the ball.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left?
Chiklis leaves....The Shield is dead....enough said.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?
Very few. If a cop gets got and goes to jail...its a helluva lot worse than for any criminal or normal civilian.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system?
Can't say much about the American justice system...I'm Canadian...eh?

Hello. Just found this site. I've been a Shieldaholic since the beginning. My favorite character is Lem. Mostly, I think he's gorgeous and I love his laid back surfer cop ways....
So, here are my answers....
1. How did you find out about "The Shield?"
I've been watching since it began.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most?
I was hooked after the first episode. I couldn't believe what I had seen and wanted to see more!! I like the way it's filmed; the "ride along" feel to it.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap?"
Google search.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means?
On the show? As far as they have to! In real life? As far as the law will let them!!
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?
Again, as far as they can. Language, violence, and nudity/sexual content do not bother me at all. Bring it!! I do feel that broadcast should be tamer due to the fact that it's free and can be picked up by anyone with an antenna. I understand the need for guidelines. Cable is paid for, so the people paying for it should have a say about the content.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?
Law & Order, the original. Hillstreet Blues was pretty cool back in the day....
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?
Just paying my parking tickets at City Hall!!
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?
He's great, and really surprised me with the Pilot. I wasn't expecting him to be so "good at being bad." I think he's a terrific actor!
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left?
Hmmmmm; no, I don't think it would survive.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?
All the ones I've ever met were cocky Bs and SOBs, so I'm sure I have no valuable input on this one.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system?
In a nutshell, It works. Of course there are real problems, but overall it works, and it's all we've got anyway.

Hey, welcome to the group, LemonAde, and thanks for answering the icebreaker questions! I was most interested that you found this site by a Google search. Do you remember what keywords you used? I have tried Google searches for this site several times and never had luck (I registered the site at least 2 months ago).
If you like polls, I'll have the Best Lines poll for ep #9 ready in about an hour. The polls for all the other eps are open, as well. There's also a trivia contest going with a really cool prize available, courtesy of one of my co-admins.

I'm constantly searching yahoo, aol, google, altavista, lycos, and even ask jeeves. I think I used something like, ["The Shield" forum board list register] without the brackets. I put google in my answer because it's the best one and everyone would know it. I honestly don't remember how I happened by here, but I'm glad I did!
I'm still learning to navigate this site, but i will check out the polls and contests. Thank you for welcoming me!!

Hello, Shield Peeps! This is my first post. I love this show in a sick, obsessed kind of way.
1. How did you find out about "The Shield?"
I saw the commercials for it, and decided to check it out, in spite of my disdain for cop shows. Been a fan since Pilot.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most?
At this point, I just have to watch it; I don't know! I love the characters!
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join?
It was mentioned on another board. I joined so I could see more pictures of the set! But I posted because I'd like to share my thoughts on TS and hear what you guys have to say. I want to make friends, man!
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means?
Real cops should follow the law, but Barn cops should do whatever it takes!!
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?
I'm very liberal in my social opinions; let them do whatever they want. I won't look if I don't like it.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?
Boston Legal.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?
Yes.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?
I think he's brilliant. I can't imagine anyone else ever playing Vic.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left?
Ummmmm, no. And, no one.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?
It's a hard, thankless job. Only a few that I know of think they are above the law; most of them honor it. I would say 2% think they're the shit....
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system?
We have the best system in the world, flawed, but the best. Fixing the flaws would likely hurt worse than limping along as we are.
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name?
Escutcheon = Shield
Well, there you have it; am I in??

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?"The FX promo's before the show's Season I premier. Been hooked ever since. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? The ambiguity of law enforcement. To rip off a line from SWAT...."Sometimes doing the right thing, isn't doing the right thing." ;D 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join?Got hit up via e-mail from another forum. 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? This is a dicey question. I can TOTALY see how Vic's "Just this one time. Then we go back to being legit." was justified. But at the same time, you start down that slippery slope. I don't think a blanket answer can be given, because circumstances will vary in any given situation. Would I plant evidence on someone I knew.....KNEW to be guilty of say.....raping a little boy/girl? I dunno. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?Cable TV should be allowed the same tollerances as HBO, etc. You're paying for it. No limits. Network TV IMHO is right where it needs to be. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?Ehhhh......not so many. There's not many TV shows I follow. TS and 24 are the only ones. 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?AJ major in college. ;D 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?Definately a departure from the Commish, that's for sure. Now I can't see him any other way than Mackey. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left?It could survive I think, but not for long. He's definately the show's anchor. I think Walton Goggins is a close second. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? What do I think about it? I love it. I don't think corruption (at least here in Los Angeles) is as bad as the media makes it out to be. Most are good guys. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system?Ehhh.....not something I can "nutshell", but I'd have to say fairly content, with some noteable exceptions. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? )Heh heh, why's this always here? Anyhow, Xanthais was the name of an old D&D character I used to play. There, I said it.

this is the best right up there with the x-files.
1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" I SAW COMMERCIALS WITH MICHAEL CHIKLIS AND THOUGHT HE IS FROM THE COMMISH WHICH I LOVED.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? I LOVE THE CHARACTERS THE BEST LEM AND VIC RULE.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I GOT A EMAIL FROM A YAHOO CLUB MEMBER MENTIONING THIS SITE. MORE PEOPLE TO TALK TO ABOUT THE SHIELD.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? WELL IT DEPENDS ON THE SITUATION, I ALWAYS THOUGHT EVERYTHING THE STRIKE TEAM DID TO THE BAD GUYS WAS FINE.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? PERSONALLY I THINK CENSORSHIP IS WRONG. IF YOU DONT WANT TO WATCH SOMETHING CHANGE THE CHANNEL.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? C.S.I, WITHOUT A TRACE, X-FILES, THIRD WATCH, LAW AND ORDER(ALL), CROSSING JORDAN.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? NOT PERSONALLY NO.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? LOVE IT. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? NO. HE IS THE BACKBONE. MAYBE CLAUDETTE?
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? MOST OF THE COPS ARE PIGS. BUT THAT IS WHAT POWER DOES TO UNSTABLE PEOPLE. THERE ARE FEW THAT ARENT TO BAD. AS A WHOLE I AM NOT A HUGE FAN.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? )
