Kurt Sutter is Writing the Punisher 2By Jonathon Knight Published April 11, 2007 www.associatedcontent.com/article/212067/kurt_sutter_is_writing_the_punisher.html The Punisher 2 has a new writer on board, Kurt Sutter, Co-Writer and Co-Producer of several "The Shield" episodes. The Punisher was created by Gerry Conway and Artists John Romita, Sr. and Ross Andru in 1974 in Spider-Man #129. Frank Castle aka The Punisher hunts down guilty criminals and punishes them in extremely "harsh" ways. A Punisher movie was first released in 1989, but the lack of the signature skull logo and the poor quality of the film caused negative flack. Finally a brand new version was released in 2004 and wasn't a big office hit. But the DVD sales were big and the studio Lions Gate wanted to do a sequel, as did Thomas Jane, who played Frank Castle/The Punisher in the 2004 film. Jonathan Hensleigh, the co-writer and director of the 2004 has said he was going to direct The Punisher 2 but Thomas Jane has said he isn't. A new director has yet to be selected. Jonathan Hensleigh wrote a draft of the screenplay. Stuart Beattie, who wrote Collateral was brought on to re-write the script. Now Kurt Sutter has been brought on to do another re-write. "I'm a huge fan of the character. frank castle is a complex, tortured badass. i had a blast writing the script. working with good producers (gale ann hurd, ari arad) and smart studio execs (john sacchi) made it an enjoyable gig" says Sutter. It is unknown when production of The Punisher 2 will begin, as both Thomas Jane and Producers have said different production dates throughout the years but nothing 100% solid. Jonathan Hensleigh said in an interview late last year that he would want to return as director but nothing has been confirmed. With this new re-write,we should be expecting Punisher 2 to start filming soon. I hope so.

I loved "The Punisher"! Yeah, some parts were a bit cheesy, but with Sutter on board, it can only get better. I thought Thomas Jane did a great job as Frank Castle. He even did a lot of his own stunt work. Really looking forward to a sequel on this one!!

I think I fell asleep during the first one. Hopefully Margos doesn't let me do that for the sequel. God, that movie was NOT worthy of a sequel, what I did see, it is incredible how HOLLYWOOD is a whore for sequels, isn't it?
