Hi, All. Richard Halpern here. New to these boards! I want to invite all of you to preview the first 10 minutes of Zzyzx starring Kenny Johnson (Lemonhead from The Shield), Robyn Cohen (The Life Aquatic) and Ryan Fox. You can see the first 10 minutes at: www.zzmovie.com/freeviewqtBecause of the length of the file, it will take 15 minutes to download on high-speed internet (I suggest going to the site and allowing it to download in the background while doing something else. It should start automatically; you can always pull the start button back to the beginning). If you have dial up (56K modem), it may take over an hour to download (so, you can go to the site, have lunch, and, enjoy the show after!). It is possible that you may have to download a Quicktime Player to play this movie. You can get one for free at www.quicktime.com (no need to get the pro version). You can make the screen larger, though, this will make the picture grainier. Screen is small but should suffice. This week, we have entered the film in four festivals, so, in a month or 2, we will find out if it gets in. Hopefully, via the film fest circuit, or word of mouth here in LA, CA, and by you, we will have a distributor by year’s end. After you watch, please visit the website for Zzyzx at www.zzmovie.com. Here, you can watch a trailer for the movie too. Please, would love to get honest raw feedback for the first 10 minutes, so, feel free to express your opinions right here. Thanks for watching! Sincerely, Richard Halpern Producer/Director Zzyzx

Thanks, Mr. Halpern. As one who has seen the sign for Zzyzx Road while traveling toward LA, and always felt like I had slipped into the Twilight Zone, I am certainly intruigued by any movie named Zzyzx and would love to watch the preview. The fact that KJ is in it only adds to the allure. (Glad I just went from dialup to cable!). I will then throw in my $1.02 (inflation).

Thanks for the sneak preview! After watching the first ten minutes I have to say that it *definitely* left me craving for the rest. Anyways, I'd love to see this movie in theaters, but since I live in Israel I guess I won't be able to watch it in the festivals you are sending your movie to, unless you are also sending it to International festivals - in that case we have a few film festivals, the next (and second biggest, I believe) is the Haifa International Film Festival which takes place in mid-October. It would be great if you sent your movie. In any case, if there's anything I can do to try and "spread the word" here (beyond the obvious friends/family circle) then I'd love to do that. Anyways, thanks for the clip and good luck!

Mr Halpern, good to hear from you! I checked out the preview some time ago and had commented here that the clip gives me a sense of dread, of the unseen but strongly felt.... my reaction to "Blair Witch Project" also. Hope you don't mind the comparison!
I have a feeling we might have a cult film in this one! Can't wait to see it... ;D
Kenny's role on The Shield is exposure and experience, certainly, but his character isn't very deeply developed. I am anxious to see more of his talent!
If you are willing to answer any questions for us, how did you decide on Kenny Johnson for this role in your film?

Hi. Would sometime hope to show Zzyzx in Israel! I am sure by early next year it will be there. We are selling the film internationally this November, and, I will make sure that a rep from Israel comes by to purchase it.
In re to how we got Kenny, Kenny was alike an angle that fell onto our doorstep. With a week before shooting, we had not cast our lead, Lou. A friend told Kenny about the film, Kenny showed up at my doorstop in LA at 10P at night (scaring the hell out of me, like Vic Mackey's strike team breaking down a door!). He came in, I looked at his demo tape, and, within 5 minutes, I knew he was perfect! He read the script overnight and, he loved it.
In less than a week, he prepared and shot the film with us. Thank you, Kenny!
Please post any other question you may have.
Thanks, richard

Dang, dude -- what a freaky cool film! Woooooo! I just watched the first 10 mins. of Zzyzx. Whoa. First, let me say that the way you presented the credits was extremely creative, and those 10 minutes went by WAY too fast! I'm hooked. Seeing Kenny Johnson in another role, especially one so different from Lem, is totally cool. The underscore was unnerving me a bit, but I like that in films!! Yes, this is right up my alley, or rather, "right up my deserted road." I would see this film even without that big beautiful blonde boy! I honestly can't wait to see the entire movie! What festivals are going to show it, where are they, and how can I get in?!?! Much thanks for sharing, E

Mr Halpern, I liked the preview as well! The kind of thing you watch, then move on to something else... BUT you find your mind wandering back to it, almost uncontrollably. It casts something of a spell, I think! A must-see! I can just imagine film students studying this film someday. ;D Anything subliminal we should be watching for? Curious, what kind of budget were you working under? What drew you to the project or subject matter? When was it filmed? And finally, got any interesting stories about Kenny during the filming itself?? (we won't tell) Thanks for stopping by the Rap!

Thanks, Bigmama! Hang in there, kids, I am still talking to Richard Halpern (the director) regarding the interview. I think I might have submitted too many in-depth questions for such a busy guy! Next time, I ask more "boxers or briefs?" type stuff!

I watched ZZYZX, and as a horror movie FANATIC, I just want to say that it was one of the creepiest movies I've seen since Session 9. I was blown away by it. And Kenny Johnson was absolutely fantastic.
