I snipped out the comments on all the shows except "The Shield." Click on the Chicago Tribune link to read the entire article.
E======================================= The Top 10 TV shows of 2005By Sid Smith and Maureen Ryan Tribune staff reporters Published December 16, 2005, 1:39 PM CST Chicago TribuneBelieve it or not, there was very little disagreement about this list of 2005's top TV series. Sure, there were a few discussions about whether a top-notch procedural such as "Without a Trace" or an inventive comedy such as "Arrested Development" should occupy a slot, but in truth, we had very little trouble coming up with a list we both agreed on. There was so much to choose from in this excellent TV year, the most trouble we had was paring much-loved also-rans from our final tally. But in the end, without too much bloodshed, we came up with our 10 favorite shows, and here they are, in alphabetical order: "Battlestar Galactica," Sci Fi "Deadwood," HBO "Everybody Hates Chris," UPN "Grey's Anatomy," ABC "House," Fox "Lost," ABC "My Name is Earl," NBC "Rome," HBO "The Shield," FX: "The Shield" was already one of TV's boldest dramas when it brought Glenn Close to the party. Close went toe to toe with charismatic star Michael Chiklis and the rest of the top-notch "Shield" cast last season, and the results were simply incendiary. When the show returns in January, Forest Whitaker will play an investigator who threatens to take down Vic Mackey's Strike Team; Whitaker has some pretty big shoes to fill, but you can bet we'll be watching every twisted minute."Veronica Mars," UPN

I only saw a glimpse of Deadwood when I was in a hotel cuz I don't have HBO. I liked the bad looking dude (long dark hair, whiskers under his lip) but my main impression was "I wonder if they really said 'f*ck' every other word in the 1800s?"
I'm also curious what can be so fascinating about a bunch of people stranded on an island? ... but not curious enough to watch "Lost." I dunno, it does have former Shield writer Kim Clements on the writing crew. Any fans out there want to chime in?
I haven't seen any of the other shows on the list.

LOST is a show I am addicted to like Julian is to pain killers. It's not as simple a premise as a modern Gilligan's Island. It's a psychological mind-trip as much as it is a Lord of the Flies series.

Ah, I was wondering about the Lord of the Flies aspect. LOTF is a classic for sure. Well it's not so much LOTF as it is Twilight Zone. LOTF is such Pop Culture that it's now used to describe any group of people cut off from society, that they now make their own laws. LOST, isn't quite that yet (in show-time, they've only crashed some 2 months ago [an est 40-something days]), so there's plenty of room for timeline movement.

I have heard enough about LOST that I had to check it out. I spent Sunday afternoon watching the first four eps. I was skeptical... I'd heard a lot of hype about WIRED too and couldn't get past the first two eps on that one. I didn't like Desperate Housewives either after a couple of eps. Guess that's why I haven't watched a series in a few years other than The Shield. A very hard act to follow now, of course!!
Anyway, I popped in the dvd and said aloud, "Ok, I dare you to hook me!" I was really expecting some hokey drama version of Survivor, a "reality" series I really hate. Five minutes into the first ep, guess what?? I was hooked!! I hadn't experienced anything even remotely that intriguing since the first five mins of The Shield! In other words, while LOST's not The Shield, it tastes like MORE!
I am curious, is the series in its second season now? Or farther along? When and where does it air? I am going to rent the rest of the season and then I will be interested in visiting a LOST fansite...hopefully something like TSR. Any suggestions??

Lost is in it's second season, and it airs on Wednesdays at 8PM (at least it does here in Vegas....) My cousin is way into it and he got me hooked. I just watched the whole Season One DVD set. Season Two is in its mid-season break, but they are still playing Season Two reruns on Wednesdays on ABC. Check it out....

Julian's wife mentioned it to Danny (I think it was Danny....) she also mentions that Julian did have/is having surgery on his back in that ep.

CHIKchick, my best friend urged me to watch LOST, but I waited until the DVD set came out and bought it sight unseen. So glad I did, because I too was hooked from about the first 10 minutes. It's a deep deep show. I barely finished the First Season before the Second started airing, but I made it. It's a very good show, sooooo much more than I expected. As far as a fansite to talk about the show goes, try the one in my sigline. It's a good place, they took me in. I go by " The Central Scrutinizer," aka the guy with the The Shield banner in his signature. (sigh, yes I'm a Zappa fan)
