Has anyone picked up on the fact that their uniform badges are on the "wrong" side?? Badge goes over your heart.
Good eye, Copper. I remember this came up on the Yahoo! board I used to run so I went to its archives and dug up the following messages. Sorry, this is kind of long, but that's why we have scroll bars.

No prob, acryzbear. I remember that question came up quite a while
back. I searched the archives (the search window on the home page
is pretty decent, btw) and found the messages below.

wrong side
I think this is answered in IMDB's trivia page for _The Shield_.
Basically, the LAPD wouldn't let them! But if they wore their badges
on the opposite side, that would be okay.
Also, Shawn Ryan and the series' creators were told that many cops
of higher rank would enjoy the series, in spite of how certain
characters
(should be obvious) were depicted.

Can anyone tell me why the officers wear their badges on the right
side of
the chest instead of their left.

I had read on some Boards that this was the
Producers/Directors/Writers of the show, their way of altering the
image of the TV Officers. This was done primarily to help ease the
concerns of the LAPD. If you recall, some of the LAPD Top Brass
publically took issue with the similarities of the Characters and the
real LAPD.
Triva point to be made: The Strike Team was based on the "REAL" LAPD
Rampart Division's corrupt anti-gang unit. This Unit has had ties to
the still unsolved Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur murders. Look for
great articles on Rampart in either Rolling Stone (4 Star) and
Maxim/FHM/Stuff. The real deal, the eye witness accounts and the
testimony that sent a few LAPD's finest to jail are really scary.
The Shield, we can enjoy and separate from reality....... but how do
you separate reality from itself?
Popcorn and cold beer for tonight's episode.
