Some thoughts...
I didn't get a chance to catch it BOTH times; fell asleep midway through the second showing. But wow, is this different...Vic turning over a new leaf, can't be the bad boy he once was...Shane is just a dick now, to everyone.
What was going on in the scene w/ the baby...? Is Vic thinking he was right about Mara, that she's being a bitch, not helping w/ the baby, etc and that he's willing to do anything for this chick?
And Mara...wow..."Shane's doing just fine without you" in her cheery little bitch-voice. If I were Vic I would have strangled her. Shane, saying "you ruined the Strike Team, not me"; "I'm past workin' for you" when it was really Shane's doing, even though the events leading up to it were all Vic. They were just about to move ahead and Shane blew it on all of them.
So going back to Vic, he had to play humble servant, as Aceveda said, and say, "yeah I was wrong" about the strike team...looks like Vic wants to keep a close watch on him. If Shane is going behind Vic's back while on the same UNIT, talking to Antwan, etc., then that's where Vic's authority over that unit would come into play, would be my guess, where Shane would be going up against Vic and a captain.
Can't wait to see Aceveda again and see if Vic is ever able to take revenge and get the last word himself...
Last thought - w/ the lawsuit the former Mackey's are going through w/ the drug company, if Vic has to use his retirement stash of $65K to hire those experts, and Shane needs to get out of a jam by giving up the former Strike Team guys, the timing will be perfect for Vic to get into a whole hell of a lot of trouble if they snoop around his personal finances....

But wow, is this different...Vic turning over a new leaf, can't be the bad boy he once was...Shane is just a dick now, to everyone. Is he turning over a new leaf or just being more clean about it to maintain the power? There are ways of being a bad boy without it showing. ;-) Gotta agree with you on Shane! My guess is that it was there to show that Shane's willing to do whatever for the baby and that no matter what he'll do what he needs to for the family and nothing for Vic. Basically a changing of the (famly) guard if you will. The Strike team use to be his family and he was 2nd in command. Now he has a new family and is in command. Vic is concerned that if push comes to shove and shane's in trouble then he may turn in the team. Vic now sees between this and the rest that shane is a threat in many ways. There was even a comment/insinuation from Vic I thought to the rest of the team about how he felt Shane would do *anything* for that baby, even if it meant rolling over on the strike team. I think it's just one more step by Mara to drive the wedge between the 2 deeper. Between whatever Mara may have been telling him and his own confused thoughts, he may actually believe it's all Vic's fault. Being humble and saying he was wrong is a way of trying to ease Shane's anger. If being humble is what it takes to get Shane where Vic wants him then he'll do it. His concern (IMO) is to get Shane under his (or his team's) watch and control again whether Shane realizes it or not and can thereby make sure Shane doesn't roll on the team. The lawsuit does make things interesting. Question is, what's the validity of the law suit? Nothing easier than praying on a mother's love to lure one into a lawsuit. They're required to put a lot of money up front and no guarantees on getting it back. There's no guarantee the "lawyer" will take the money and run. His reluctance to let the kids be tested at her hospital, her friend's reluctance to help, etc. all make me think the lawsuit may be a scam. Sad, but true. I can see them going in based on emotion with Vic having to hit the money train stash, risking drawing attention, only to lose it all. Ky

Point of info/side note for u guys: Thimerosal is, in real life, the actual subject of many lawsuits against vaccine companies, with regards to Autism. So that part of the story - where Vic and Corrine are considering joining a class-action suit, is certainly drawn from reality...it will be interesting to see how it plays out, or IF they follow through on it at all, given that there hasn't been any causative link proven by the "real" lawsuits thus far (of which I am aware). Link to FDA FAQ's about autism and thimerosal, here: www.fda.gov/cber/vaccine/thimfaq.htm#q15

I'm from a medical background and am a bit leary of many vaccines at this time. (My own doctor, due to my own health situation, doesn't even recommend I get vaccines for anything due to my own body's potential for doing who knows what with it) It's more the way it's going down that's making me wonder about it being a scam. Seems like if someone can snag something that's true and prey on the parents or emotions of others then they've got a terrific scam. But that may just be my "trust no one" attitude comin' out. ;-) Ky

Is he turning over a new leaf or just being more clean about it to maintain the power? There are ways of being a bad boy without it showing. ;-) Gotta agree with you on Shane! I like what they've done with Shane. He is turning into a "quasi-Vic": devoted family man while scamming with bad guys. The writers are developing an interesting conflict between Shane and Vic, for sure. I like Shane's new demeanor--he is very confident and taking charge--I also like his facial expressions. He has such an expressive face. Yeah, Shane is definitely a ticking time bomb now. I don't see where it was "Vic's fault", or any one person's fault, that the strike team fell apart. I think it's complicated and they all desrve some of the blame. If anyone, I would think Lem is most at fault--he's the one who burned almost all of the cash. Why do you think it's Vic's fault? I thought Vic said he was wrong and played humble to Aceveda, not Shane--but maybe I'm wrong. Peach's post about the vaccine was really interesting--someone was doing their homework on the show. One thing that seemed kind of strange to me is the lawyer said there would be no cost for legal fees--they would be collected only if they won the suit. But then he said the expert witness testimony is expensive. I'm no lawyer, but it seems to me that if the expert witnesses were confident in the strength of the suit, they should be willing to testify on a contingency basis; i.e., not wanting their money up front. So, maybe there is something shady going on? But, maybe I'm just being naive.

Actually re-read what I said, "he [shane] may actually believe it's all Vic's fault. " My opinion is that it's a joint effort on the whole team. ;-) He might have. I know Vic said he made mistakes and to me that was him being humble to shane. lol! agreed. It's that whole "no costs but you need money to pay" thing that is one of my big red flags about it. That and the whole testing thing when he was extremely reluctant to let them go to another specialist for testing. When I was in a lawsuit (granted, a small and individual one) I discussed doctors with my lawyer and as long as the doctor was qualified I was free to go to who I was comfortable with. Only reason I could see for everyone going to the same doctor is thinking that all tests would be run identical. But coming from a medical background, most of the times the doctor isn't the one running the actual test! And one thing I really do like about the show is that they *do* do their research. Everything I've seen so far is pretty much how it is down there. They're good at basing it all on reality and truth so I'd expect the lawsuit to be based on one. Ky

He has such an expressive face. Shane, I think, is turning into a quasi-Vic, but I think for the worse. Vic was certainly dirty when we saw him in seasons 1-3, but for some reason it seems Shane is much more of a loose cannon, whereas Vic always had things under control. Maybe it's just the way the two play the part differently, I dunno, but that's my take on it so far. I DO love Shane's expressions though...when they were at the breakfast stand and Shane had the bread w/ the cash on top, then he's walking away and says "I'll look into it...I'll look into it!" with that real cocky-ass furrowed brow... Good stuff. To even come close to matching Chiklis' facial expressions on a show like that is an achievement in itself. I thought Vic said he was wrong and played humble to Aceveda, not Shane--but maybe I'm wrong. Vic said directly to Shane in that episode, "no, you're right" after Shane said, "you broke up the strike team, okay, not me". So Vic, all around, is playing humble to a lot of people, including Rowling, who was his key to get a second shot on the street.
