I am no prude, as I believe Capt Rawling says in Ep 3, but I'm feeling some concern about how far the writers are pushing the envelope. Ok, bad enough to see a rape scene three times (though, granted, important to the story) but did we have to see the rapper bang video over and over and then as a still?
It's no doubt titillating for the larger, male audience... but as a female fan, I am feeling a little humiliated by the ongoing explicit violation/exploitation of female characters. Aceveda's rape had no nudity and was largely implied--so as shocking as it was, that scene was very different from the two we've seen so far this season...never mind the constant references to women sucking men.
I am also concerned that the show will lose some of their sponsors as a result. What's your opinion?

I am also concerned that the show will lose some of their sponsors as a result. What's your opinion? We're going to differ on this one but then again I may be in the minority. Maybe it's just my own experiences that have me not as affected, I don't know. I saw those seens more as portraying life and the reality of what a lot of women go through just to survive and life in today's world, at least in bad areas. They tend to allow themselves to be used because they don't feel they can survive any other way. I saw the way the seens were portrayed as the way it is and for once not glorifying/sugar coating the sex/use/abuse. I feel other shows/movies actually glorify women as sexual objects more and in a way that doesn't show how wrong it can be. So basically, my opinion is, sometimes ya gotta just stick it in the faces of people to make them aware that hey, there IS a problem out there. And it seems it's working as it's now a topic of conversation! ;-) Ky

Good reply, TK. You've made me reconsider my first feelings on the matter. In other words, I was just being a f*cking prude, huh!! <oops, potty fingers...>

Good reply, TK. You've made me reconsider my first feelings on the matter. In other words, I was just being a f*cking prude, huh!! <oops, potty fingers...> lol! Thanks. And no, I don't think you were/are being a prude. I'm betting you've just been lucky enough to not see/be through as much as me and therefore aren't as jaded about a lot of this stuff. Which is good.
