I guess we'll need more than one thread in this topic since "potential storylines" could go on forever
I think the Vic/Shane dynamic sucked the first time I watched it - then I saw it again just now and I realized it was great. Vic crouching over Deadeye, realizing somethign was seriously wrong; you could see it in his face even though the scene was dark.
What about Shane - talk about cocksure. Vic tries reaching out to him first by using his charm by saying "As in Michael?" when Shane tells him the baby's name is Jackson - I saw it more as Vic reaching out rather than Vic trying to be an a**hole. Then Vic says, "we were about to shut that place down" and Shane says, "we were too busy covering our asses", then later says, "too many dickheads, not enough time, you know?". Complete matter-of-fact attitude towards what's transpiring - either trying to cover the fact that he shouldn't have been there (no call logged for Deadeye's dead body; he was there alone, had gloves on, removing evidence) or just being an a**hole to his once-mentor.
The way I read the scene, it sets up a great continuing dynamic between the two throughout the season. The two major storylines should probably go like this:
Vic/Rowling - they'll spar, but in a less obvious fashion than Aceveda/Vic.
Vic/Shane - Vic is probably somehow involved in protecting Antwan while Vic is trying to take him down; this could be the symptom which irritates the larger problem of the Vic/Shane relationship and how it's deteriorated.
I'm sure Vic will end up with a new strike team made up of him, Lem, Ronnie, Julien, maybe Dani finally? Rowling said "detectives and unis".
