If Vic dies (a big "IF" for me), it would have to be by the hand of someone he loves, or has loved him, in my opinion. Someone like Corrine, Cassidy, Danny, or Ronnie. Or he offs himself after losing everything. I don't see him being killed by an "enemy" (Terry's brother, Pez, Diro, Aceveda, random gangbanger, etc.).

I wonder what Shawn Ryan (and Forrest Whitaker) would make of some of the "Vic Enablers" beginning to flip-flop. Turns out "Show Enablers" would have been a better moniker.
I mean nothing bad by that at all...I think I've been guilty of being a Vic Enabler for the very same reasons: ie, the show must go on!

^Exactly. I didn't really realize why I was a Vic Enabler until this season started. I just knew I loved Vic and needed him to keep on going. And "Show Enabler" hits the bull in the eye. Once I accepted that The Shield is coming to an end (denial is rather fun, btw), I allowed myself to stop wishing for Vic to keep getting away with murder, and started imagining how his reckoning will come.

Pondering this thread's title, should we all lay bets on whether or not Vic dies?
I say, no, he won't die. I suspect he will receive a fate worse than death, however. His ex-wife taking the kids away from him and Danny taking Lee away from him, along with losing any semblance of his cop family, seem to all point to this fate already being in motion as of 7x08.

^ Scary, n00b.... very scary. Pondering this thread's title, should we all lay bets on whether or not Vic dies? I made a poll here in the S7 Board. VOTE OR DIE!!!

Maybe here's a safe, Non-Snitch place to ask:
Any info on the length of the Final Episode? I'm praying it's a solid 90 minutes.

Supposedly, with commercials, it's a little over 90 minutes. Somewhere I read about 70 minutes without commercials.

Vic dying is way too predictable - everyone would see that coming. However, I do believe that the finale will consist of something possibly being alluded to somewhere down the line where he might die or is probably being set up - ala Terry Crowley. And so, it comes full circle. Vic dying as a result of the many crimes he's committed for the sakes of his friends and family being protected and he catches a bullet from one of those friends/family members. But that's an easy guess.
I think it's going to end like Training Day - it will all be covered up for the sakes of 'protecting the public'.. not revealing the truth to protect cops and people 'behind the scenes'. Vic Mackey will just be another name hailed as a good cop but who fell and is a reminder for cops not to break the law - but nothing is learnt from and so it just opens up with it possibly happening again.

Now THAT would be tragic.

Correction: judging by a new article, the series finale is just about 75 minutes, sans commercials.
The major problem I have with the entire covering up of everything Vic has done is that--and this *could* conceivably change, of course--it doesn't make that much sense since he's no longer a cop, and he's been on the way out for the better part of three seasons now.
That said, did anyone else think it was a possible omen in this previous episode, the way Vic said, "You guys [really the Feds] make deals with Freeway Rick, Antwon Mitchell..." I have a feeling *somebody* is going to cut a deal at the end of the episode that insulates them and washes them clean (not morally but legally). Could be Vic, could be Shane, could be someone else, I guess. (Though Shane in soliciting the murder of a cop seems doomed, even with the notorious Feds involved.)

Another possibility I thought of, although this is pretty far fetched. The smartest guy in the show (outside of one notable moment) barring Vic has been Aceveda. He also has the most sins to his name after Vic and Shane and deserves to get his. However, I don't think all 3 will get just desserts. An interesting ending, playing on all the times Vic set up master plans to get in and out of situations, would be Aceveda becoming mayor and silencing his enemies (Pez and, possibly, Vic killed; Claudette possibly forced out etc.). One last screwjob by the master of them.
Just a thought.

I would HATE it if Vic died. OMG. I know when Lem died my mouth hung open so long my daughter reached up and closed it. I just know I always loved the conflict in Vic Mackey and his survival instinct. I also love that he KICKS ASS. ;D I've been impressed with Ronnie this season, though.

I've been trying to think of a fate worse than death for Vic. Losing his badge has already happened. Losing his family and friends is already seemingly in motion. The one thing I could think of that would be the worst living hell for Vic is, after being an aggressive, pro-active, take-care-of-business alpha male his whole life, he ends up in the finale shot, but not dead. He lives out the rest of his life as a paralyzed invalid. The final camera shot pulls out on Vic - a gaunt shell of his former self - sitting alone, drooling with a distant stare in a crappy patient facility. He's incapable of any physical movement or communication. Nurses have to wipe his ass. He's fed through a tube. But his brain still works. The doctors conclude that although there is no chance of any recovery, he should live for many, many years in their care. The one thing he can do for the rest of his days................is think.

HOW ABOUT THIS FOR AN ENDING?
Shane/Ronnie - one gets away, one ends up dead
Vic is arrested by Claudette/Dutch, tries to cut a deal but some kind of evidence that Olivia gives them seals the deal for his conviction, Vic is sentenced to death penalty..
The show fast forwards to 7 yrs later when all of his appeals are up and Vic sees his ex family and friends one last time...as the large window of people watch him get strapped to the table to get the needle, he sees Ghosts of certain people from the past (Lem, Gilroy, etc.) As he waits until the final hour to hear his LAST appeal from the Governor..the door to the watching room opens and in STEPS the GOVERNOR, David Aceveda...He looks at Vic and nods at the executioner...the show ends at the shot of looking into Vic's eyes

It reads like a nightmare scene!

I don't know if Vic is going to die or not.
What I do know is that The Shield is in essence the story of Vic Mackey. Throughout the series' run, the writers have gone to great lengths to portray Vic as a character with redeeming qualities, despite his many serious flaws. I would therefore be very disappointed if they suddenly made Vic out to be complete scum who 'deserves' to die. It would be too easy, and I expect more from Shawn Ryan and co. They know they've created a fascinating character in Vic, a character that many people root for. Precisely because so many viewers favor Vic, he will somehow have to be at least partially redeemed in the end, so that even if he dies it will be in doing something self-sacrificing/heroic.
