they didn't say - although I suspect one of two things - he's a movie guy, not a TV guy and probably didn't want to commit to a series and, he's like 20 years older than Ron Perlman so it would have been tough for him to be Jax's stepdad (not to mention Gemma's husband) - he's for sure a better actor than Perlman - I really hope when the DVD set comes out that pilot will be on it with maybe some sort of commentary - Kurt Sutter's MySpace is still up, isn't it? Maybe worth it to send him a comment
incidentally, I don't know how into Apocalypse Now you are - it's my favorite movie - but the five-hour work print is available on one of those sites Chem won't let us name and Scott Glenn's complete Colbly scenes are all included - why Coppola cut them, I don't know as they greatly add to the Martin Sheen story and also explain what happens to Dennis Hopper - it's a pretty fascinating watch if you've got five hours to spare, ha ha

well, it would have helped if I would have spelled his name correctly: Scott Glenn www.imdb.com/find?s=nm&q=scott+glenn&x=19&y=7Probably most famous for the role of Colby in Apocalypse Now that almost completely ended up on the cutting room floor, also big parts in Silence of the Lambs and Crimson TideGlenn would have made a great "Clay" .... wonder why he turned it down? He is most famous around these parts for playing the "bad guy" in "Urban Cowboy", early 80s lifestyle movie staring John Travolta and Debra Winger about oil refinery roughnecks who dance the night away and drink Lone Star longnecks and ride mechanical bulls at a local honky tonk in Pasadena (outside Houston) called "Gilleys" - which was a real bar where the movie was actually filmed. Not the greatest film ever made, it was more famous for it's stellar soundtrack, which highlighted some of the bigger C&W acts at the time - including he quintessential redneck classic "Devil Went Down to Georgia" by Charlie Daniels. Watching "Urban Cowboy" is an absolute right of passage for young men and women growing up "country" in Texas. Scott Glenn was also very good in "Backdraft" (Ron Howard's firefighter movie - staring Kurt Russell, Robert DeNiro, and one of the Baldwin brothers) ... and in "Silverado" (mid 80s Lawrence Kasdan cowboy film staring Kevin Kline, Danny Glover, and a very young Kevin Costner) Glenn was NOT in "Crimson Tide" . I believe you're confusing his role as the US submarine captain in "The Hunt for Red October" He also played Alan Shepard, one of the original 7 NASA astronauts, in "The Right Stuff"

none of the actors actually own a motorcycle (including Kurt Sutter) - Ron Perlman and Charlie Hunnam can barely ride at all how in hell is THAT possible!!!

apparently, they learned just enough to get by - notice, at least in Perlman's case, he is never going very fast (or very far)
yes, Scott Glenn was in Red October and not Crimson Tide - saw many a show at Gilley's (including the Ramones of all people) - supposedly, Glenn did 2000 push ups in a row on Urban Cowboy set - actually it was the extra Brando scenes that made the movie so long - one is a really long take of him reading The Hollow Men to Dennis Hopper, ha ha - the Scott Glenn stuff is maybe 15-20 minutes extra

So, after The Shield is over, do we branch out with an SOA board or even an SOA site??
In any case, the last two eps prove SOA is going to be darker and edgier than I expected... yeah!! It's official; I am addicted! And grateful for something to replace The Shield when it's <sob> done...
I love Perlman as Clay. To me, he IS Clay. But then I never saw him as HellBoy, so it's easy. I can't wait to see each character's story slowly unfold as the plot thickens.
MAJOR BITCH, though... I accidentally saw a damn Shield preview tonight!!

Loved the flaminco guitar version of "Fortunate Son" played over the scenes of the two hits. Had to listen to it a few times, but that's definitely the song.
And how inhuman do you have to be to kill your own son for something you sent him to do in the first place? This is why, other than a few exceptions like The Shield and The Godfather movies, I have a very difficult time watching movies/TV that center on the "bad guys" instead of the "good guys". Shit like that just makes me sick. It's why I never could bring myself to sit down and watch The Sopranos (that and I don't have HBO). I just don't want to see the "inner workings" of evil in that much detail very often.

that was bad, killing his son. I had never seen the Sopranos until it started coming on A & E, but I liked it, Paulie was my fav.
I did recognize the guitar version of "Fortunate Son", thought it was very good. I like this show very much and will continue to watch it.

Granelli on his Homing cd - very good use of the song great ep and the think the show is starting to hit its stride

There is a message board for SOA at soafix.proboards.com I'll stick around here to discuss it with my TSR buds! I didn't get to fully concentrate on last night's ep, but what I saw was pretty freakin cool!

You mention The Shield, and you're clearly a fan, and it's chock full of evil shit. SOA has been pretty mild until now, almost spoofish, and now it's gettin' real. I am definitely falling in love...
The scene when the son takes it in the neck...fantastic. I think I actually jumped in my seat. Excellent! I'd much rather laugh and cry and get involved with a set of characters in their violent little fictional world than listen to the real life stories in the news about murdered girlfriends, wives, and babies. Maybe I'm sick.

Ok, SOA fans... get your ass over to the SOAfix site and let's get things started over there!! Obviously, it's barebones and needs a core group of loyal members to get going. I think I'm the first member even! Now's your chance to be a part of something brand new!
Sure could use the magical talents TSR had to spruce things up... hmmm, I wonder who could make that happen...

Maybe I'm sick. After re-reading my post and taking in what I've now highlighted in red, what part of my post "stuns" you? I'm not sure I understand. I don't OFTEN enjoy viewing "evil" characters as protagonists. Complex, complicated characters are fine. But seeing the inner working of pure evil (which is what I categorize a father who kills his own son for purely business reasons) is not USUALLY my cup of tea. The Shield and The Godfather are noted exceptions, though even The Shield's characters are not "pure evil", at least not yet - though if Vic kills a pregnant woman - regardless of her transgressions - he slides into that category for me. My broader point, as it relates to SOA, is that other than the emotionally conflicted Jax character and perhaps the doctor lady and maybe Opie, I don't see much redeeming social value in any of these characters. So far Gemma and Clay and the rest are pretty much all on the "bad side" of the equation, in my book.
