Hey now! My name is Brad and I live in Atlanta. Originally from Kentucky. Graduated 05 from University of Kentucky - now just working and playing in GA. Interests are baseball (Go Cubs), basketball (Go UK!), snake husbandry, movies, and - of course - The Shield!
My parents got into watching this show before I did. I was too busy in school, I kept telling them, to get addicted to a television show. They saw s01E01 previously and watched the whole first season that day. I knew I didn't have the time. Mom ignored me and sent the first three seasons' DVDs to me anyway. One boring Wed late night I decided to watch The Shield. After the first show I was blown away and had to watch more! By Friday afternoon, I had missed two days' worth of classes (and a test, I think), slept all of 10 hours, and was jonesing to see the 4th season (which was only a week or so away). Been hopelessly hooked ever since. Simply put, the best show ever made for TV.
Thanks to all those who provide these forums. What a refresher to have a place full of intelligent and considerate members who love the Shield! (unlike most everywhere else on the internet) The countdown ticker is a great touch!

Oooooh, another hopelessly addicted Shield junkie.... welcome! You're in the right place, friend. There are no steps here, no serenity prayers, no guilty admissions of indulgance. Just a bunch of equally addicted Shield junkies grossly enabling one another... enjoy!
Allie
PS. I think there are a several women here with ex-hubands who are indeed snakes.

^ LOL! Allie, you kill me.... WELCOME, CHUNGA!! Glad to have you here, my friend! What part of Kentucky is it from which you hail? I'm in WV -- not too far away. I might be the only WVian in here come to think of it. lol Nice to have some more mountain folk around!! I had a couple snakes as pets long ago -- gave them away when I got pregnant. One was a ball python, and the other was a Vietnamese reticulated python. The retic was my favorite... so beautiful! He was only 2 feet long when I got him, but had grown to over 8 feet in just a few years. He was deathly ill with an upper-respiratory infection when we rescued him from the pet store... wouldn't eat at all, and actually HID from the mice we gave him. We had to tube feed him baby food with antibiotics until he recovered. I'll never forget the first time he accepted live food... that boy could MOVE!! So, do you just study snake husbandry, or do you practice it? Inquiring minds and all.... Sara

Did he say intelligent? Welcome to the Rap, Chunga! It's great to have another like minded Shield junkie in our midst. You certainly qualify! ;D I'm also curious about your snake husbandry, that was the first quesiton that came to mind after reading your post! General curiosity for me, I don't have an ex husband!

I lived in Lexington for 6 years, and camped at Natural Bridge and surrounding ranges a few times. You can travel the world, but there may be no more beautiful sight than Appalachia in the fall! I haven't bred snakes in a while. I had a ball Python named Pandora (b/c I kept her in a box) and bred her once. Sadly, last year, I left a rat in her tank too long and the rat killed her. That was a very sad day. The next snake I want to get is a yellow boa and I'm saving up my pennies to get a larger tank. Pandora once had a respitory infection and yakked up an entire mouse about 4 hours after I fed it to her. That was the nastiest thing I've seen yet - a couple of antibiotic shots fixed her right up. I probably won't breed them again - it was a lot of work and I think I much more enjoy just playing with snakes. Great to hear from a neighbor! If you have any pictures of the retic I'd love to see them! 8 feet?!?!? That's a great size - the size at which the family chihuahua starts to look like dinner! lol Thanks for the warm welcome!

Before my membership was approved I read through the forums to get the temperature of the posts. Considerate and thoughtful discussion throughout. A nice departure from the "I'm right b/c you're an asshat" stuff. Snake husbandry is a fancy way of saying "I've seen snakes f**k". If your husband ever starts swallowing entire animals whole, sleeping in a coil, or shedding his skin in one big sheet, you might want to consider the "ex" part! lol j/k Thanks for the great welcome! After every Sheild episode my family and I call each other to talk about what we just saw. "Did you see THAT?" "I can't believe [insert Shield character] just did that!" Really looking forward to doing that here! One thing is certain - we have no idea what's going to happen. Just when you think the tension and the stakes can't get any higher, Shawn Ryan finds more gasoline and a bigger match! I'm getting antsy just typing about it.

Um, exactly how does a rat kill a snake? this gets a little gross..... normally the rats would go to one side of the tank and pandora the other. If she was hungry, the rats would only last a few minutes. If she wasn't, then she'd ignore them and the rats would stay away out of fear. This last one, it attacked her and ate her flesh, right below the jaw, all the way to her spine (and probably some of that too). She wouldn't eat with me in the room, so I'd have to dump the rat in and leave. When I came back in an hour later, I found her body against the side of the tank and her head half-eaten off. I didn't kill the offending rat, but after flying 100 ft into the air into the woods behind my apartment, I think gravity might have.

My retic, "Jake The Snake," didn't care who was in the room when there was food to be had.... he'd strike at anything that entered his cage, so we had to be quick! I can't think of where any pictures are -- this was 12 years ago! My ex-husband built him a plexiglass and wood enclosure that was 8 feet tall, 8 feet wide, and 3 feet deep. Jake had all kinds of branches and stuff to climb on, and a little "cave" for his heat rock. We'd use thick canvas gloves when reaching in to handle him. Once he figured out our hands weren't food, he'd chill and climb all over us. He was always trying to reach up onto the light fixtures and we had to be careful what we walked under. He once got patially up onto the gutter of the house. He'd hooked his head onto it and was pulling with all his might. I had a hold of the rest of him, but I was losing the battle.... My ex had to get a ladder and climb up there and undo him. lol The ball python was named Camille. She was always trying to get under stuff. She once got underneath the freakin stove. It was winter and we'd just made dinner, so it was nice and toasty warm under there. Took forever to figure out how to lift it up and pull her out without hurting her. I took a gamble on whether you were from the west end or this end of KY... sigh. But you're right about these mountains in the fall.... MmmmMmmmMMmmMmmMmmm!!! Love it!!

I learned that there are 26 streets in Atlanta with the word Peachtree in them (or maybe it was just peach?). How do you like the women with their southern drawls. They had me eatiing out of their hands. ;D Glad you like it here and we are looking fwd to more of your posts.

Once a year I would 'lose' Pandora somewhere in the house - I'd have her out, laying on the bed, fall asleep watching TV, and she'd crawl somewhere. She crawled into a couch and I couldn't get her out for 3 months (should have disassembled the couch). Another time I found her wrapped around an electical cord plugged into the socket. She was locked on that thing like a vice, and I had to figure out a way to get her off the plug without electrocuting her. Her body grip was amazing! The thing I miss the most was her neck massages - I'd put her around my neck, she'd coil up, then proceed to do snake laps around my neck - the crawling motion was pure relaxation! Of course, sometimes she'd do it too strong and half-choke me. I understood how devastating that was to rats (but I still didn't feel too sorry for them). My biggest hangup about getting a larger snake is the food. Rats I don't mind sending to their doom - but larger snakes need larger food. I'm not sure I can drop a kitten or a rabbit in the tank.

Athens is THE college town - I've been to several (Austin, TX is a close second) but UGA takes the taco. I've lived in ATL for 2+ years now, and all the Peachtree streets still confuse me (I'm just outside the Perimeter, and there's at least 5 Peachtrees I use to get places). ....those Georgia peaches (the ladies) have the same effect on me. I'm the big, strong guy all the ladies know and I haven't been able to refuse a request to help them move yet .... it's the Georgia peach mind-trick.....

Snakes are truly descendents of Satan. If I had a pet snake, I'd name him Lucifer... oh, and how do you know if it's a boy snake or a girl snake? Do the boys have little snake weanies and the girls little snake vaginas? Wow, this snake stuff is fasssscinating.
And you are kidding, right, about feeding a snake KITTENS??? Bunnies are bad enough, but if I find out you're feeding kittens to a snake, I'm gonna have to hunt you down, kill you in your sleep, and spend the night cutting you into snake snacks.

Bunnies are bad enough, but if I find out you're feeding kittens to a snake, I'm gonna have to hunt you down, kill you in your sleep, and spend the night cutting you into snake snacks. unfortunately, no, not kidding about feeding kittens to snakes. I read this tip someone posted once about how they liked to feed their yellow boa - "free kitten giveaways are a great way to keep your boa fed". I couldn't do it - but I guess some can. If you are giving away a litter of kittens, check into the people taking them I guess - some people aren't looking for pets, just food. If/when I get a larger snake, I'd have to find a suitable food-animal I didn't mind throwing in the tank. Maybe rabbits, but the less cute, the better! As far as telling if it's a boy or girl, there's no real good way that I know of. I think the main difference is girl snakes have these two little horns on the back 1/3 of their body on their belly. They use these little horns to anchor themselves when snakes have sex (I can't describe how, it's something you just about have to see). Boy snakes might have them too, but I'm not sure. When I got Pandora, the pet store said she was a girl, and so did the vet, so I took their word. Turns out they were right.

What did you think about how Tubby Smith was treated at UK? He graduated from my school (High Point).

Welcome to the Rap! What did you think about how Tubby Smith was treated at UK? He graduated from my school (High Point). Love Tubby! Have an autographed official-like UK basketball from him in my room! Hate how he was treated - UK fans suck sometimes. I defended him all the way, but the last couple of years made it hard. Still, a class act and top tier coach.
