I'd say that backs up the idea that FX didn't market it properly.

As Chiklis said on the season 5 DVD. One reason I believe the ratings aren't as high is that A lot of people get together to watch it. My family and friends do the same and sometimes we have as many as ten people. I know of a lot of other shield parties and these individuals aren't accounted for, just the one tv they have on are

The good news is that FX has secured it for a seventh and final season. I just hope they don't go back on their word and cancel it before it has a chance to wrap up properly.
You have NO IDEA how pissed off I will be if The Shield isn't given room to wrap things up properly.

The good news is that FX has secured it for a seventh and final season. I just hope they don't go back on their word and cancel it before it has a chance to wrap up properly. Relax, there's no chance that would ever happen. It's a signed, written deal, which is legally binding, and the episodes are already being written. If FX tried to cancel the show, they would suddenly be subject to all kinds of lawsuits; plus people would become much less willing to do shows on the network. I said this last week, and I reiterate it. Ratings for the next two seasons are completely irrelevant. The show already has a definite end date and a final season renewal. It wouldn't matter if the episode is watched by ten people, the show would still end on its own terms.

Not irrelevant if you want people to appreciate such a great show.

People have their own reasons for not watching. If those reasons are stupid, that's just a bridge I have to cross with ownage when I get there. That's how I look at it.

It's good to see the ratings are higher. I wonder what the Season Finale ratings will be like?

No offense to whoever started this thread, but I don't really care about ratings for this show. Everyone knows real television, that matters and has value, staying power, and an intelligence quotient, gets canceled or no one watches it. Please see: HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREETS and THE WIRE for examples.
Dan
PS - As I noted somewhere on this thread, Neilsen Media Research is one of the most horseshit and erratic "companies" out there. They can't adapt to new technologies but somehow remain "vital" to marketing campaigns. This past winter I was called about being a Neilsen member, filling out a paper booklet for a week. I knew I wouldn't do it (I don't think you need to know what the f*ck I watch), but I said I would just to get the information. It is so ridiculously stupid I could not believe it. Can't adapt to TIVO, ITUNES, BITTORRENT, you name it.

I still find the data interesting... Your Title is still too long, Dan.

I don't think anyone was saying ratings correlate to quality. But it's a useful thing to think about since they DO affect a show's lifespan. Fortunately, we don't have to worry about it with The Shield, but it is disheartening that less people are watching such a wonderful show.

I also find the ratings interesting....as I said I wonder what the Season (or Series) Finale's ratings will be like.
