On the Jones was 69 Minutes according to the TV Guide listings and Baptisim By Fire is 66 Minutes. Are the episodes longer because the season is so short compared to other shows? Any opinions?
Don't forget to discuss the episode and whatever else you want in the Chatroom before/during/after each episode.

I'm hoping most will be longer. I know the FX schedule has the Tuesday night airings at 10 and 12 instead of 10 and 11, maybe to indicate that many will run over? Not sure.

I'm happy with longer episodes, no doubt. The Riches is consistently clocking in at about 70 minutes, so FX really seems to be loosening the reins a little bit. I remember Shawn Ryan describing his fight for extra time in the Season 3 finale and the "Back in the Hole" S4 episode.
I don't mind a bit!

No, the file I have says it was 50 minutes.
The TV Guide includes the credits and the ad breaks and stuff.

No, the file I have says it was 50 minutes. The TV Guide includes the credits and the ad breaks and stuff. And that's about 7-8 minutes longer than most episodes of television. Most, *ahem*, DVD episodes of The Shield or any other show are only 42-43 minutes without ad breaks. If you have other, *ahem*, files of The Shield aside from the two I mentioned earlier, you'll see the same thing.

I always thought that the longer eps were either season finales, or premieres. It's interesting to hear that ep 2 is going to be longer, too. Not that I'm complaining in the slightest! If this is the case, and if The Riches is running longer, as a standard, hopefully we'll be seeing at least a few extra minutes throughout the whole 6th (and 7th) season!

Unless I'm mistaken I think most of the FX orginals go over the 1 hour mark by a few minutes. I havn't watched The Riches or IASIP, but I know The Shield, Nip/Tuck,Rescue Me, go over. And I'm pretty sure that Thief and Over There both went over.

The Shield USED to remain within the one-hour time frame, except on a few specific episodes.
It's great that they are finally breaking the barrier.

Makes sense, it pushes all of the other barriers! FX probably realized that no other programing they have is worth cutting The Shield to 60 minutes (w/ commericals).

I know that Shawn Ryan, I don't remember where (TV Guide maybe), was talking about working at FX as compared to CBS ('the Unit') and he said one of the big advantages of FX is that if he wanted to run over some the network did not complain about it...
