I am glad I live on the east coast, we see the season premiere 2 hours before the west coast. It is getting close now.

The Wire is outstanding but (not having seen season four yet) as far as an emotional impact, it falls short of The Shield.

The Wire is outstanding but (not having seen season four yet) as far as an emotional impact, it falls short of The Shield. Not only is this a completely ridiculous comment, I will not even attempt to ignite a discussion with you on this matter considering the fact you have failed to see a full quarter of its programming. That's like saying, "Man, this car runs like shit!", then realizing it only has three wheels.
Dan Ahem.... this is a fan forum for The Shield. There is an off-topic area called "This n That" for discussion of non-Shield stuff. -E

Dan Ahem.... THE SHIELD STARTS TONIGHT! And no blanket parties, Dan... -E

Dan has a point. So does ST4L and stealingjoy, though..... I've never seen even one ep of The Wire, but I keep hearing that it's good. I'd rather see it from the beginning and just haven't tried to get any of the DVDs yet. Emotions are high today because S6 starts and everyone should just chill. GROUP HUG?!

You know what? I feel exactly the same.
Mainly because an episode of The Wire isn't massively satisfying in itself - it really needs to be viewed in light of the whole season. In a season premiere of The Wire you know that not much is really going to happen - its all set-up - a lot of which won't seem significant until viewed in retrospect of later events.
The Shield on the other hand delivers the goods episode by episode, always keeping the adrenaline high.
Neither way is "superior" to the other, but, like you, I get far more excited about The Shield premieres than The Wire ones.

Get a clue, kiddo. Watching 75% of a show's episodes counts for plenty. I have the first three seasons on DVD and if I had HBO, I would have seen season four. I gave my opinion, I didn't "ignorantly dis" anything. I explicitly stated I was only comparing the first three seasons, but you went hysterical because someone didn't share your opinion. Don't mistake your fanatical opinion with objective fact. Grow up and learn to communicate with adults. Also, posting what you did in a thread entitled "COUNTDOWN TO ECSTASY" is pretty much being a troll. Seriously, could you be any less mature? What, should a person only judge a show after everything has aired? I mean, you haven't seen season six of the Shield, so how can you really judge? And you shouldn't have an opinion on The Wire either since season five is in the works. Do you see how stupid that kind of thinking is? It doesn't matter if the next season of any show is completely awesome or terrible, it doesn't change a single scene of what came before. Even if season four of The Wire is the most emotionally gripping season I've ever seen, it wouldn't change my opinion of how the first THREE seasons compared to the first FIVE of the Shield. How is all this so difficult for you to comprehend? It's people like you that lame up the boads on IMDB with the countless The Shield versus The Wire comparison threads because you can't understand the difference between opinion and fact. This lack of basic understanding of human interaction really floors me. ==================================== As far as I'm concerned, this is stepping over the line, stealingjoy. What Dan said was terse, but he certainly didn't deserve a 3 paragraph essay on stupidity. This debate is officially closed. Any more posts on this topic in this thread and I will delete ALL off topic comments in this thread. -E
