I was thinking about the price for this. If 13 eps cost about 60, I guess 21 will cost around 90 maybe 80. I dont get why though, I mean Ive bought 24 season sets before (24 eps) and they r the same price as the shield. Then I see shows like the wire which has maybe 13 episodes in it, with a 99 dollar price tag. whats up with this. Is it just cable shows charging this much?

HBO shows do seem to charge a lot for their DVD box sets. I'm not sure how the prices of things work. Most DVD box sets usually seem to cost somwhere around the 30-60 dollar range. I've seen some cost somewhere around 90 to 100 dollars (the aforementioned HBO sets, The X Files, and Star Trek all seem to come to mind.) I'm not sure why it is. The X File set I own has about the same amount of discs, features, and episodes as my 24 sets and it cost about fifty dollars more than 24. I have no idea really.

I'm not too fussed about how much S5 costs on DVD. I wouldn't be surprised if it cost around the same as the first four seasons, but if they charge extra because of the extra 8 episodes, I think that would be justifiable.
I'm just glad that 'The Shield' isn't an HBO show. While HBO produces some incredible shows, its DVD boxsets are woefully overpriced and usually have almost nothing in the way of extras.

Maybe they will release them in 2 box sets, half and half like CSI does? I'm still waiting for season three to come out in the UK

I'm afraid that you might be waiting a long time, shibby. Sony still don't seem to have plans to release it.
I've finally caved and decided to get a multi-region DVD player for Christmas so that I can import Season 3 and Seasons 4 and 5 when they come out.

ESB, if you're going to buy a multi-region player I most highly recommend the Phillips DVP642 - it plays everything from everywhere - and, most importantly, will play anamorphic PAL discs in their widescreen form (most multiregion players don't do this on NTSC televisions) - it's a simple remote hack to change the region setting from 1 to 9 (meaning 'all') - if you're lucky, you can get one with Macrovision disabled (they come in all-blue boxes - the enabled ones come in a white-and-blue box)

As I live in the UK the only form is download the episodes but I'm so glad there's 21 eps. This season will be amazing.

if you buy the u.s version you can use dvd shrink to backup your dvds and make them region free and then they will work on any dvd player in the world

I see they took the idea of this off the Sopranos. Aren't they increasing their number of episodes for their final season too.
Either way 21 is better than having only 13, I just hope Shaun Ryan(damn it Im confused, I hope thats his name) puts as much effort into writing 21 episodes while he's involved in that other programme he's doing. He must have something up his sleeve if he's writing an extra 8 episodes.
Another thing, isn't the US premiere for S5 in January like it was at first and not March like the last few years? If so, we could be back to good auld days of S1 and S2. WOO HOO

From what I understand, SR has handed off a large part of the responsibility of writing for and producing The Shield to Glen Mazzara and the other writers/producers. I'm sure he's still involved, but is focusing on The Unit. If I have misunderstood, someone chime in and correct me please.....

Still though, he must have had a large involvement in allowing the change of the amount of episodes this season. Thats a good thing I feel.

I think they couldnt rap it up in only 13. So instead of having the staff take another year off, he decided to work a little longer just to finish it up, and get it out of the way to concentrate on other projects. Of course we are all still assuming it is the final season, not confirmed yet is it?
