1. How did you find out about The Shield?
I just watched TV and the first episode was shown and was hooked
2. Why do you watch The Shield ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most?
Like the action and also the bad/hard cop image ,I like evil criminals to be treated hard
3. How did you find out about TheShieldRap and what made you decide to join?
Surfing the web for more information about the serie. Nice to find information about the Shield and nice to "talk" to fellow minded tv people
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means?
Depend much on the crime commited so this is difficult, I do believe with certain crimes the questioning can be hard.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?
Here in The Netherlands you have public and commercial tv every channel is free except the movie channel ,the public channel is nudity free, almost (no explicit scenes),the commercials channels go all the way, sometimes its nice but most of the time I am getting sick of the (Sex)Phone Commercials when zapping when theres nothing on tv late. Definitely think that broadcast tv should have different standards then Cable tv
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?
I liked Miami Vice, 24,dont like the CSI Series a bit the same always.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?
No
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as The Commish; and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?
Think he is brilliant
9. Could The Shield survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left?
Don't think so
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?
Difficult to answer
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system?
difficult to answer
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ;
Kungfu was the serie I always watched when I was young(er),I admired David Carradine, loved his acting , even met him ,got a picture along with him and got an autographed Photo of him as Kungfu and a poster from Kill Bill signed

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" I was working at a bar in Philadelphia and was lucky enough to meet two alcoholics who hailed from the same small New England state that i was from. After realizing that we all had the same sensibilities about the world, they invited me over to their house on Tuesdays to watch this cop show called the Shield. <SNIP>. I'm tellin ya, alcoholics friggin luv this show! Some of us want to be around for the next two seasons, though, so we're on the wagon... but you sure won't find *my* ass at an AA meeting on Tuesday nights come January!

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" My mom turned me onto the show.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? Lol...I know this is such a teenage answer but alot of the actors are cute, but mostly because of the intense action and the humor.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? Again, my mom. I wanted to join because I like discussing the show and I wanted to meet all the people my mom won't shut up about. #yahoo#
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? I think that cops should be able to do whatever in takes to get the truth, especially in murder cases.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? Honestly I don't like that cable has such censors. I think it's setting boundaries on creative expression.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Law & Order : SVU, Law & Order, Law & Order: CI, Cops, American Justice, CSI.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? lol...nope. I have no record to speak of.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I think it's the epitome of a cop's instinctive nature. I like that he acts on impulse.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? I don't think the show could survive without Chiky.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I think law enforcement has gotten soft as far as interrogation gors...maybe 10 % think that there above the law.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? I have faith in it...it comes out right in the end...usually.
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) Well...Bailey is my mom...so thus I am Bailey's Kid. #jester#

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?"
Saw the commercials on FX before the first season started, looked interesting!
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most?
The great cast of actors, the long running story lines, and all the crazy stuff that happens!
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join?
Was searching for an avenue for The Shield news, and to talk about it, and found a link. Used to go to Shieldfans.com
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means?
Hmm. I dont believe in cops being crooks in real life, but if they have to do a few rough things to keep us all safe from some thug, then go for it!
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?
I think the level the shield is allowed to go right now is pretty cool. It surprises me sometimes what they are doing and saying on cable! But its cool!
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?
not really any
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?
nope
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?
Oh he's awesome. Its hard to believe that is the guy from Commish! I loved him in the 3 stooges life story movie. Very moving.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left?
I dont think it would be worth keeping. Could they yea, but the show has ALWAYS centered around him, to loose him would loose the engine, so no. Noone could take his place either.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?
I dont know. I follow the rules, and keep away. If you keep yourself in check, you dont have to worry about it. Only criminals do.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system?
its a joke. Every day that goes by, life gets easier for criminals to thrive. They have no sense of fear for doing wrong. They do wrong, and they get a slap on the wrist, and go back to doing wrong.
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? )
A fan of the old He-Man stuff, and was from there. Ive used it on other boards too, so why change now?

How I found the most excellent show on tv? Well, my brother was a fan, and a few years ago, while I was recovering from a car accident, I borrowed season 2, and my life was forever changed. I was blown away!! As to why I watch, it was time that a 'real' show came out. No more of the sugercoated, candy-assed cops that dealt with major emergencies such as cats up trees, or major crimes involving toilet paper and someones' house. As to the extent of the actions taken by the strike team on the show, I've always believed (as far as cops go) that you shouldn't carry a gun unless you have the balls to use it. I know that's a pretty generalized statement, but it works when manipulated. 'The Shield' is the ONLY cop show, in my opinion. And I like the answer of the person who stated the Michael Chiklis as Vic Mackey IS 'The Shield'. And, to close this up, I don't think there is such a thing as justice anymore, and the law is a joke. It all boils down to money and greed. I used to be a Criminal Justice major in one of my states' colleges, but I realized that law didn't mean anything when I started watching the O.J. trial (remember that, kiddies) on Court tv. That's when I decided that I'd never be able to prostitute my morals like that, and I got out of that field.

Welcome to The Rap, vicman.
Yeah, it often does seem like the justice you receive is only as good as what you can afford, doesn't it?

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" My sister watched it and after a lot of nagging I started watching it during the third season it has become an obsession
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? To be honest all of it. In some ways I wish I had the balls to pull off the stuff Vic and his team do. I also wish I had the type of power he does. Also the way the shop keeps you on edge, constantly wanting more and throwing curve ball after curve ball at you. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? someone posted this site on the chat part of fxnetworks shield page. I joined it b/ it looks like a great place to discuss the shield
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? I think using the streets to bust the streets is a good thing. I honstley think that making a deal with a gang to let them deal as long as it stays out of the hands of kids and to keep the drugs from being tampered with is an ok thing to do.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I think that the way the shield does it is the way it should be done. They are given freedom with what they show as long as it has to do with the story line.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? I think NYPD blue is ok.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Not really other than the usual speeding ticket 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I think he plays the role great. I think Vic Mackey is actually the best played role on T.V. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? I don't think that it could survive. He is the driving force behind the show. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I think most of them believe they above the law, like about 75-80 percent. I think there is a lot to be desired in our police system. I think they have an unrealistic view of how they should be doing their job. It is impossible to stop drug use and things like that. Thats why I think they should work with gangs like I was saying earlier becuase that is a more realistic way of looking at it.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? I think it is a system that has its good points and its bad points, but I don't think it will change much
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) its just one I've always used cause I like pink floyd

Hey, eclipsepinkfloyd, glad you joined us and answered the icebreakers. Hope that's an indication that you will post in the future. Things are obviously a bit slower in the offseason, but there's plenty of reading you can do and offtopics to post to, games to play, etc. All in all, don't be "just another brick in the wall."

Good to see another Pink Floyd fan. I hope the eclipse is a reference to the last song on DSOTM and not to the rice burning non-American car that has the same name.

Welcome to the group. We hope you get a chance to respond to our "icebreaker" questions as a way of "getting your feet wet." 1. How did you find out about the shield 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? 5. 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" Saw promos on FX before Season 1. How could I not tune in?
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? Just to be gobsmacked every single week. And then, to confer with my friends the next day and try to guess what the hell the writers are going to come up with in the next episode. And then, to tune in the following week and get stunned again.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? Came over from the imdb boards (Thanks, Escutcheon).
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? The only reason that Vic Mackey's actions are okay with me is because (a) He's a fictional character under the control of his creators and (b) I trust his underlying motives. Yeah, he can be self-serving at times, but I believe that at the end of the day his primary drive is to protect the innocent. I would never give just any real-life cop that same trust unless I knew him or her personally.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? In this case I say, Let the big ol' capitalist machine do its thing. If a show has TV-MA content and sucks, nobody will watch it and it will get cancelled. If it's good, people will watch and corporations will advertise. If a corporation receives enough complaints about advertising on that show, they'll probably recognize that their marketing constituents aren't TV-MA types and pull the ads. If nobody complains and the ads bring them more business, then the show will prosper and continue to air. If individual people have issues with the content, they can complain to networks or advertising corporations, purchase V-chips, or refuse to subscribe to a particular cable TV channel or to cable TV in general. However it shakes down, the people will get what they want.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? None. The Shield is the only cop or law show I have ever watched.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Um, I almost sat on the jury of a murder trial once. . . Nope, that's about it. Not very exciting.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I was pretty skeptical about the whole "The Commish turns into Mr. Tough Guy" idea. My mom watched The Commish. I never did. But Michael Chiklis is a homie (I was born near where he was in Massachusetts) and a fellow Red Sox fan, so I did the solidarity thing and tuned in to the pilot when it aired. Needless to say, it didn't take long for me to lose the skepticism.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? Whew, that's tough. I don't think The Shield could survive as is, without undergoing some kind of transformation which would probably piss off or alienate a lot of the current audience. Let's consider the possible candidates for "main character" of a Chiklis-less Shield:
Shane: Too greedy and stupid. He'd piss somebody off and get himself killed within a year. Especially with no Vic there to bail his dumb ass out.
Ronnie: Not a leader, and not complex enough.
Dutch and Claudette: You could actually make a show around them, but there's a big danger of it turning into a CSI-type deal. And while I trust these writers not to let that happen, I think not letting it happen would be more difficult for them than it was worth.
Aceveda: Very complex dude, and you could make a show around him, but it would kill most of the action. Aceveda is a head trip --for good and bad-- and prefers to be a puppetmaster and web-spinner than beat down doors and do all that Strike Team stuff we love so much. A show based around him would feel more like a dark sub-species of The West Wing. Again, probably a hard sell for most Shield fans.
Danny: Actually a really interesting story and could have her own show. Tough cop and single mom, definitely not a girly-girl but still never really allowed in the boys' clubhouse. The problem is that The Shield could never revolve around a woman. Not even Danny. There would just be too much "What is this, the Oxygen Network?!?" crap from everyone.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I have very little experience with law enforcement, from either side, so most of what I've heard is gossip and urban legend. I believe that some cops believe that they're above the law, because it's human nature for some people to think that way, and others to lose perspective or become corrupted by the power they're given. But I can only make an uneducated guess at a percentage.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? See Question 7. I just don't have enough experience with it.
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) It's my initials.

Awww. . .*blushes*
Thanks, chemikalman. I'm glad I found this site --while I do have a couple of co-workers who are good for water-cooler Shield talk, they're not really good friends of mine and they're latecomers to the experience as well (only having tuned in at Season 4, whereas I've been there since the pilot). For some reason, I can't get friends and family to watch . So I have to look elsewhere for people who share my Shield addiction.
And I'm glad you appreciate the colors --it was a bitch to figure out the system at first! ;D
