yes, indeedy, our very own Vic and Kav made the classic pages of The National Enquirer - it's the December 11 issue, the "Who's Gay in Hollywood" issue - fortunately, they are not talking about Chiklis or Whitaker - the story references the now-infamous scene from 'Post-Partum' - "The Cameras Stopped But The Brawl Didn't!" - too bad I didn't buy it - I was halfway thru checking out and by reflex put it back up before I realized I should have purchased it - anyways, it's on every checkout stand

I stood beside a S5 regular "background cop" during the filming of the Promosode, and he told me this story. I'm gonna grab a copy today..... if my scanner will work, I'll post the article.

<Prays that E's scanner works> I'd love to see it if you can get it on the 'net.

Well, the scanner isn't working, but I took a picture of the page and transcribed it...Click here to see larger image: i18.photobucket.com/albums/b129/shieldrap/misc.jpgArticle by Robin Mizrahi National Enquirer December 11, 2006 Forest Whitaker and Michael Chiklis apparently forgot what it means when the director yells the word "Cut!" The actors became so engrossed in their roles on the set of "The Shield" they continued a scripted brawl - even after the cameras stopped rolling! Sources from the Los Angeles set of the FX series said the fight got so out of hand that the feuding actors had to be pulled apart. "Both Michael and Forest have enormous egos - so enormous that there's no room on the set for both of them," an FX insider told the ENQUIRER. "They're both incredibly talented actors - and both method actors as well, so they stay in character between scenes." Even though the fake punches and shoves had been rehearsed for more than an hour, the insider says when it came time to film, all hell broke loose. "Michael's punch didn't land exactly where planned and Forest yelled at him: "Hey, man, what the hell was that? What are you trying to do?' " Remaining in character, the men started throwing real punches at each other that were meant to hurt, turning the TV scene into a blow-out fight. Forest, 45, plays Jon Kavanaugh on the show, the sly and unconventional lieutenant who's leading an investigation into 43-year-old Michael's character, Detective Vic Mackey, and his strike team. "Even when the cameras stopped rolling, Forest seemed intent on taking down Michael," said the insider. "It was as if Forest didn't exist, he was totally into his Kavanaugh character, who had it out for Mackey. "Forest charged at Michael, hit him in the face, and they shoved each other down, landing on the ground kicking and punching." Three crew members and a production assistant had to step in to end the melee - and filming was halted for a half-hour while both actors retreaded to their trailers to cool off. Calmer heads prevailed after the brief interruption, says the insider, and the duo was able to reshoot the scene in one take without reigniting the battle.

Sounds like they had quite a fight. But this is also the same magazine that said there was a 103 year old baby born a few weeks ago. But I have heard that tempers can flare. Plus I'd still be pissed over Kavanaugh leading to Shane's actions when he killed Lem.

When you put two lead actors in the spotlight for the performance that was expected of these two, tensions can run high. Acting can be very intense when you are expected to produce under pressure and still deliver quality goods.

I don't know about anybody else, but I would have rather seen this fight, instead of the scripted play fight that they aired.

MY inside source told me that during filming of the following eps (5:12 - 5:??) that Chik and Whit were pal-ing around and giving each other manhugs. No hard feelings.

Maybe it'll wind up on the DVD commentaries for S5B when it gets released as an extra feature. Kavanaugh Vs Mackey...the final showdown.

This is probably what I'd tend to believe. The N.E. story probably, and this is purely a guestimation, part true and part stretched brought to them by someone looking to make a name for themselves. It wouldn't seem too far fetched to have to pull the two apart just because of the intensity they put into their characters. Very proud actors? Sure. So proud to where it makes them have a discontent for the other? Not likely.

^ But the story of the both of them duking it out sells more magazines than just playing around.
"Two Shield Actors Play Around on Set" vs "Two Shield Actors Beat Each Other Senseless" The latter sells.

According to my source, they really did get pissed off at each other and fight, crew really did have to pull them apart, and filming really did stop until they cooled off. I heard this story the day we visited the set in June.

"Two Shield Actors Play Around on Set" vs "Two Shield Actors Beat Each Other Senseless" The latter sells. So true. Capitalism at it's finest. And I wasn't doubting that they got legitimately pissed at one another. Just of the opinion that the two eventually cooled off and didn't have any lingering bitterness. Of course I could be wrong on that one too.

"Two Shield Actors Play Around on Set" vs "Two Shield Actors Beat Each Other Senseless" The latter sells. I happened to watch that very scene again last night. Looks like the "real" thing in terms of two characters venting their anger and frustration at each other. The intensity is real; the animosity between the actors is not. From what I understand, this happens between esp talented actors... like Chiklis and Whitaker. Neither one would let go of the moment before the other. I chuckle to see a silly tabloid playing it up just for hype... and probably the "source" was cued in time for the boxed set release.

It isn't the best way, and someone could really get hurt, but they shouldn't have let them cool-off. Let them go at it angry so it doesn't just look real, but is real.
I think Chiklis would be a 3 to 1 favorite. Whitaker is a big guy, but I think Chiklis would be the winner.

The fight looked real to me, in every way. Especially looking back at it now, the punches they're throwing aren't connecting very well, which means to my mind that someone is so emotional they can't swing straight. My two cents.
