From Chicago Tribune "MetroMix" website: metromix.chicagotribune.com/news/celebrity/chi-tribtv,0,6736493.htmlstory?coll=mmx-home_bottom_hedsh2o June 3, 2005 4:10 PM CDT: Lovers we love to love The stellar month of television that just ended -- filled as it was with explosions, revelations and death -- turned my thoughts to romance. After all, the best finales featured couples that make good shows great and great shows stupendous: ... Vic Mackey and Monica Rawling, "The Shield" Why they rock: They're not dating, but Monica Rawling (Glenn Close) has gotten inside Vic Mackey's head the way no other woman ever has, and the duo's chemistry positively leaps off the screen. Both are obsessed with bringing their own brand of justice to the streets -- and time will tell whether that will land both of them in hot water before this smokin' hot season of "The Shield" ends on June 14. What's next: Supposedly Close is not returning next season. What will Vic (Michael Chiklis) do without her? .... ~peach

As I recall, there was a lot of speculation prior to the season premiere regarding "would they or wouldn't they?" Would Rawling and Mackey end up in the hay. I thought it was a silly question then and now I think everyone knows it was absurd. Mackey likes women who throw themselves at him. He also likes them younger. Rawling is more than an equal and isn't his type, nor is he hers. We don't have to know much more about her personal life to know that!
I did notice how Mackey was looking at Rawling during some of the final scenes last week. What was that look? Compassion? Some kind of bonding? He has snarled and scowled at her, and still doesn't like having her ride along, but I think there's an affection developing between them. Copperhead, you would know. Doesn't that happen when people are under the gun, literally, together?
Yes, Mackey will be lost without Rawling when she leaves. I am sure whoever replaces her will not get along with him as well.
