This is a good forum with lots of inside info and everything, but we have like 20 different sections that could be greatly compressed. If it was up to me I'd have general discussion, news, introductions, music and the separate forums for each season. I know this will probably be ignored, but it's just a suggestion. It's the only thing that really draws me away from this board.

Thanks, jimmycracker! Your comments and observations will not be ignored here.... The Admin and all the staff really appreciate your comments, and this will certainly be discussed at our next staff meeting!
Seriously, thank you!

I don't think the Rap staff will ignore your suggestions. The staff is highly responsive, unlike many other fan sites in general. As I understand it, they have a weekly staff meeting to discuss all kinds of things, including just what you mentioned. I agree that a lot of the recent threads could be compressed somewhat. It's very busy around here these days! However, it's fairly easy to see where people have posted each day and scrolling through the recent 55 posts is useful. There is some effort to visiting a fan site, too. I happen to think The Rap is well worth an extra click here and there. Maybe the Admin can do some sorting, though, before these threads get too lengthy and redundant?

Thanks, LI. CC will start looking at some clean up. We talked about that last Wed., as a matter of fact. This was in response to a suggestion by CC some time ago.
But you are right, there has been an inordinate amt. of activity lately.
Any specific suggestions will help.

Thanks Jimmycracker, LI and Chem for the suggestions. I think the staff likes the board divisions simply because they categorize areas of interest. We can also restrict certain boards to members only (cuz membership has its privileges! ) Not everyone will agree that certain threads belong in certain categories, of course, but I think staff will move threads when necessary. With the Admin's permission, I did some serious clean up tonight. Got rid of *ancient* threads (like the ones on Mother's Day and Father's Day, etc), threads that never got a reply after months on the board, and about a dozen "welcome to The Rap" threads that said the same thing about navigating the site or contained outdated info. (please note that most of them were my own!! ) I also moved a few threads into more appropriate categories. Thanks for the suggestion/reminder, Jimmycracker, to do the clean up! Keep making suggestions. This site is by, for and about being Shield fans. We've *all* made The Rap an excellent place to hang! Oh, and I don't really know of any way to combine threads so let's be sure to put posts into existing threads whenever possible. Thanks!! ;D -CC

Well the 'behind the scenes' section only has two topics, and the last one dates back to July. Do we really need a separate forum for only two topics?

I just did the following consolidating actions: I moved the only thread in "Tip Sheets" (about where The Shield is filmed") to "The Barn", then I deleted the board "Tip Sheets". I moved CC's thread "oops" from "Behind the Scenes" to "The Barn" and my thread "picture of me with the writers" from "Behind the Scenes" to the board "General", within the category "The Show". Then I deleted the board "Behind the Scenes". Okay, I hope I got all this right! Whew!

Ah thats great. Thanks. I'd also suggest organizing the threads for individual episodes, maybe make sub forums for specific episode discussion and keep the general season sections. But eh, that sounds like a lot of work. Hell, I wouldn't mind doing it myself, but obviously I can't. (; I'd also suggest removing the pets forum. Maybe putting the guest forum directly under the APB's forum. Also, this is just my opinion: fancy names like the witness box, evidence room, holding cell etc, aren't necessary. They don't really make anything seem cooler, they're just distracting. If it was up to me I'd just give them regular names. And yeah, I think some of the forums need to be closer together, and others farther apart, just for convenience. Hopefully I don't sound like a jackass saying all this, but I really do think these things would make the forum more attractive. The colors are also pretty hard on the eyes (at least compared to some other possibilities). I put up a site a while ago before I realized there was already an active shield forum. This is how I envisioned everything: theshieldonline.com/forum/

Oh, now you've really gone too far with the suggestions, mister!! The Pets Corner has pix of *MY* pets and it's not going anywhere, hon! For God's sake, have you seen how cute my horse and kitty are?? Man, you need to go over there and look at them RIGHT NOW. Just teasing you... I do appreciate your ideas. We can bring up some of your ideas at the next staff meeting, which is on Wednesday. I already like the look of our board, though I do want to see the homepage graphic updated. Otherwise, I personally like everything else... Ky did a great job. I like the colors esp because I love color and I am easily bored by white, black and gray. I also like the headers we've chosen. They are in keeping with the flavor of the series and more fun than just saying "New Articles" or whatever. I am glad you found The Rap and like it enough to join and give us feedback. Now drop that idea of eliminating my pet corner!!

Oh my, jimmycracker! I have to back CC on this one, hon. Did your heart not melt when you saw those fluffy angels?? How could it not....
I like your consolidation and rearrangement ideas, though; seriously thanks for bringing this up. We are all about making this place better.
I was thinking of instituting a "Guest Board" where non-members could post. Or if a member is having problems staying logged in..... We could trouble-shoot any sign-up and log-in problems for people there. Just a thought.....

Jimminy Halloween!!! Whoa whoa whoa, Jimmy! Easy now, boy! We ain't about to redo the entire frickin board!
You're lucky you don't live near CC. She might hunt you down and strangle you for the suggestion of removing her pet pics! LOL!
And I like the board names, thank you very much! The more mundane descriptions you seem to prefer are below, after all--right?
But, like CC said, we will discuss some of your other ideas (cough).
Two sayings come to mind: "give 'em inch and they'll take a mile" and "you can't please everyone, so you gotta please yourself" (R.I.P. Rick Nelson on that last one).

Further reorganization this week includes:
The "Guest Actors" board was merged with "APBs." "Guest Actors" was then deleted.
The Category "People of The Shield" was merged with "Evidence Room." "People of The Shield" was then deleted.
The Board "Guest Room" was created so guests to TheRap can leave comments and ask Qs.

Alright, I'm back with more nagging suggestions. I think you should have official 'episode threads' in each season forum. So there'd be a thread for pilot, dragonchasers, circles, etc, then people know exactly where to go if they wanna discuss that episode. There are some episode threads created by members, but they're all sort of messy, if you know what I mean.
And I think all the news forums aligned on top of each other (apb's, snitches, set visit, inside info) should be more on the top of the board. I assume that's what people want to know first when they come to the board. But maybe that's just me. Anyway, there's my 2 cents.

And not everyone wants the news! Heck, I head to the BOTTOM of the list first! Off topic is always the most interesting to me. It's like the newspaper. Some head to the news, some to the sports and some to the COMICS!

But everyone has already been welcomed, haven't they? (apart from the people who have yet to come here, but... eh, whatever. who cares.)

this board should have the option to email you when somebody responds to a post that you are "watching" or that you replied to. For example, at this site they do it: www.sosuave.net/forum/index.phpNot sure if this board is able to have that option. I like it this way because I don't have to remember which posts i've been replying to. Just my .02

I don't think proboards offers taht feature yet, but they are always working on new stuff. I'll ask about it. You can always bookmark the threads you want to watch. The button to bookmark is at the top left of first post in any thread (or the first post on the page), right beside the Search Button. To check on your bookmarks, go to your profile and select Bookmarks from the sub-menu. ;D You can access the last 5 posts you made through your profile as well.....

That reminds me I have a question for the mod's You know the 'previous 75 posts' thing on the home page? Is there a way to go back further than 75? I didn't log in for a while and there were a gazillion posts and I didn't fancy going through every thread The answer to this is probably really obvious, forgive me I'm blonde

I happen to agree, Shibby. I will go ahead and set the most recent posts for 100, since we have so many members now and some of the posts are just one liners. You can also watch the dates on the various boards to see which have the most recent activity. [/size]
