How in the world will I possibly be able to watch Pilot again? How will I be albe to watch ANY of it again? I can't imagine laughing at Shane's ridiculous lines.... or cheering for Vic to keep getting away with murder.... I just can't. Knowing how it ends, I don't think I can watch it over again. It's all tainted.

It's all tainted. I totally agree, E! I usually throw a "Shield" DVD in before I go to bed at night, and I haven't wanted to watch one since the finale, let alone watching the finale again. I think I am scarred for life and am absolutely devastated that Shane got killed off. Never in the seven years of watching this show have I hated Vic Mackey until the final episode. There will never be enough justice brought onto him if you ask me.

-E-, I watched the pilot (as I've said before, the wife and I are watching together now) and it's really cool and odd knowing where it ends up, but it's still engaging. I picked up things I hadn't before, and I've probably seen the first six seasons at least 3 times a piece.
I'm embarrassed to admit this, but on that recent watching, I only just got that Claudette put the poo poo in Dutch's desk.

^ Poo-poo. I'm actually watching 1:13 right now.... the parallels in Vic's story between that ep and 7:13 are eerie... he loses his family, has a near breakdown moment, then picks himself up, grabs his jacket, gun, and keys, and walks out the door. Anyway, it's hard to see Shane, Lem, and Ronnie busting their asses to find the gun Gilroy planted.... Sigh. I've watched the ep, and have now moved onto the commentary -- and it's Chikky, Beni, SR, and SCOTT BRAZIL. It's killing me.

I watched part of "Blowback" today just to get over being so sad. "The Armenians speak Armenian" still makes me laugh aloud.

F*cker, you're seriously the most entertaining poster I've ever encountered on any message board, ever.
And that's a mighty compliment.

E, I was just gonna start a thread about this. I think maybe by January or so I might try to start watching from season 1. Hell, when I watched seasons 1-6 in order to prepare for the final season I was a little sad to see Lem. I can only imagine what it will be like when I see Shane and his big goofy smile and Lem together in a scene. Dare I say when I finally do rewatch season 5, I just might cheer on Kav.

I watched little bits of the beginning of Season 7 yesterday (Shane getting beat down, Armenian setup etc). You look at it a little differently - knowing the fate of the characters and all. I gained a new appreciation for 'Animal Control', though. What an episode. It's utterly fantastic.

I watched 1:13 last night for research purposes, and it was way too soon to see Ronnie, Lem, and Shane working as a team to protect Vic from Gilroy's evil plot. It was torturous. Absolutely broke my heart! Hearing Scott Brazil on the commentary smooshed the broken bits of my heart into my gut.
I got to thinking though.... when SR made Season 1, he didn't know if The Shield would get a second season. I'm thinking that he wrapped up S1 nicely in case that was the entire run. I also got to thinking that maybe we should have known that this was how the entire series would end for Vic.
Damn, I love this show!

E, I was feeling much the same after "Postpartum." Lem getting killed actually kept me away from the show for a month or two. Man, that was painful. Watching any episode that came before was just unthinkable.
But, to turn your question around...how can you stay away from the greatest television show? The answer is you can't. Just as I can't. Swearing off The Shield for good is even more unthinkable.
Jophus, I was going to do exactly the same thing, start the series over from the beginning (yet again) and watch in parallel to you. But I've had a problem with my Season 1 Disc 1 for a while. It has a small pinhole scratch and won't even load the main menu in my DVD player (I think I can rip the episodes on the computer and I'm going to have to try that tonight).
So, I popped in the first disc of Season 2 and watched "The Quick Fix." I love Season 2.
You really have to tip your hat to Shawn & Crew for staying true to the entire canon all the way to the end, because you could probably watch any single episode and recognize those characters and their actions at the end of the series. For example:
From watching "The Quick Fix," you can immmediately see what kind of people The Strike Team are:
Lem is the kind of guy who will give CPR to a random drug dealer who's spitting up blood. He values life.
Shane is a guy whose best of intentions turn to absolute shit when he gets in over his head, like investing all the Retirement Fund into one shipment of tainted blow. ("I've increased shipments, I'm overseeing distribution...")
Vic, he's the king shithead. Vic is the kind of guy who goes on and on about his kids and family, but his actions don't back his words up. He chews Shane out royally for investing all the cash, because he needs the money to get his kids back. But the very next time we see Vic, he's finishing up a tryst with Danny. How does that help get your kids back, Vic?
Man, I love The Shield.

This saturday, I decided to watch the season 1 again. It's a different look but I feel I'm having more attention to the details. Also the latest interviews of S Ryan were very useful.
Also, note the similarity with the actual ending !! Vic left alone by his wife with the children, and Vic (without his police badge that he threw away) taking his gun and leaving in the night for who knows where ...
When Shane says he wished he never met Vic, I'm sure that if he didn't have, then he would have made a definitive mistake earlier or felt under the charm of another corrupted cop or something like that. He couldn't escape to his destiny.
As for Vic, yes, his actions don't back his words but I think he really loves his children, just he does it his way. He is a fascinating person, I feel sometime guilty to admire/envy/respect him. The truth is I never hated him and that I'm quite relieved he didn't die.
