Throughout the series I have always had a love/hate relationship with Shane. The first few seasons I loved him. At the end of season three I was not very fond of him. Season four I just felt bad for him. Shane failed miserably in trying to be a mini-Vic. I loved him in season five up unitl he blew up Lem. After he killed Lem, I thought there is no way on earth that I will ever be a Shane fan again. Well I was wrong. Season six was just, wow. When Shane found out that Lem didn't turn, the look on his face was a mixture of what have I done/I think I am going to be sick. It was at that moment that I was squarely behind Shane.
He does feel sorry for killing Lem. He was doing what he thought needed to be done to protect himself, his family, and the strike team. His heart, most of the time, is in the right place. He has, in a way, come to terms with what kind of person he is. If Vic wasn't in his life, I believe that he would not be in the position that he is in today. Granted, Vic cannot be blamed for everything, but he did have a huge role in shaping where Shane is at in his life.
I hope things don't turn out so bad for Shane. I would love it if somehow the ending scene showed Shane and Mara sitting on the beach sipping margaritas and watching Jackson play in the sand. I know that won't happen, but a girl can dream.
All I can say is kudos to Shawn Ryan, the writers, and the actors. We as an audience should not be rooting for Vic, Shane, and Ronnie. These guys are bad. They are murderers, thieves, liars, have worked with drug dealers, have beaten up suspects, etc. If anything we should be rooting for Claudette and Dutch.
So who is with me?!!? Team Shane all the way!!!!!!!!

I've always found Shane to be more sympathetic than....say, Vic. However it has misguided him, at least Shane has a heart.
And beyond that, Walton Goggins is a more impressive actor in this series than....say, Michael Chiklis.

I'm still hoping he eats his own bullet. If he would have killed Lem face to face...I might be on the Shane Train...but it was just so cowardly and cold.

Vic has the brain but not the heart. And Goggins is THE BEST ACTOR on the show, bar none. Chiklis and Pounder are tied for a distant second. In 40 years, Goggins will be the actor most remembered and revered. I have yet to find a "flaw" in his acting ability. I have found a few minor flaws with the other two.

I've been on Shane's side the entire time over Vic simply because of the heart/brain thing mentioned earlier and because of how much less of a hypocrite Shane is than Vic. I'm definetely on Team Shane.

And I thought there were only two of us! I have always been on "Team Shane". However, Walton plays Shane impeccably. I think he has been robbed of an Emmy since season three. He is the best actor on the show, no question! I want to see Shane ride off into the sunset, but I don't really see that happening. I could care less about Mara. She is half the reason he is in over his head.
I'm so glad he is going to be back on the small screen. This has made the end of "The Shield" a little more bearable. Hopefully his new show "Rectify" will start in the fall.

I love Walton Goggins... I've said repeatedly -- here and elsewhere -- that he is the greatest actor of my generation (we are the same age). He has the gift.
That being said, I only joined 'Team Shane' recently, and I haven't fully forgiven him for offing Lem.... it was the piano playing that did me in. That moment where Mara forgot about all the shit that was happening and was just happy. Tore out my soul, man. I hope he makes it out alive with his family intact.

He is the best actor on the show, no question! LOL...me too. I guess there are more team shane members than we thought. And dare I say, if Shane was played by someone other than Walton I might not like him as much or at all. Walton is an amazing actor. He owns this role. I'm sure the emmys will snub him again because why nominate someone who is clearly more talented than half if not more than the people who do get nominated. While I do agree, for the most part, that Shane is more heart than brains he is not that dumb. Shane's downfall is that he doesn't think before he acts. If he did that than maybe he might be at the same level as Vic.

Go team Shane! I can't believe I said it, loving Lem the way I do, but I did.
I always thought it was unfair that Shane was called dumb just because he isn't able to match Vic's skills for sociopathic behavior. He's a good cop and has always done well undercover.
I was melted during Season 6 when Mara said he had been waking up in the middle of the night screaming. I almost cry every time he puts his hands on Mara's stomach to talk about the baby.
The acting is amazing, and I HATE that Walton hasn't won an emmy. He deserves it so much!

I always liked Shane as well as Vic,Lem and Ronnie...What does that say am about me? Rooting for lying, murdering thieves . When Shane killed Lem,which I hated,I knew Shane lost what ever fans he had.If you knew you would be separated FOR LIFE, with you wife and son and thought someone was ,"giving you up" most people would do the same.As for Vic ,giving up Ronnie, to keep his wife who is raising his children out of prison, again in some ways that scum but in others its admirable.Kinda like the whole show from season 1, episode 1.

After he killed Lem, I thought there was no way I would ever root for this guy again. Heck, I was hoping Vic would kill him. But oh my word, he just broke my heart. You could see the guilt was eating him up. Hell, he tried to kill himself twice in the first episode. What an actor. What a show.

Isn't comparing Walton Goggins and Michael Chiklis in their respective roles rather difficult, though? The two characters are so wildly different and the two actors approach their roles in such drastically different ways, that it seems almost like comparing Javier Bardem in No Country for Old Men and Hal Holbrook in Into the Wild, or something. Both actors are given advantages and disadvantages with their roles, but in the end Goggins gets to be more consistently "showy," so that helps him with many people. Both are superb... Ironically, just as Goggins was being asked to stretch more and more in Season 4, Chiklis went more subtle with his interpretation of Vic--and the writing influenced both actors a great deal.
I can't picture any other actor playing either part at this point, so that is a great statement for both men.

I hated Shane initially for "blowing Lem in half." However, Season 6 and the first half of Season 7 definitely changed that. This exact opposite happened with Vic. I began to see only his heinous, self-serving nature. I was vindicating in the middle of Season 7 when Vic finally acknowleged his part in corrupting Shane. Speculatively, in my mind, Lem would not be dead had Vic not killed Terry. The story is so complex that I don't even wish to piece it together ( after it ends we will have all the time in the world to do so). My main thing tonight is consequence for all. If Shane gets his and Vic doesn't I will be disappointed.

In Season six Walton Googins acting was so superb, that I was tormented for the guy for committing the act that he did. I was even relieved when he subtly gave clues to Ronnie that he blew up Lem when Kavaughn was trying to take down Vic. In season 7 I shed a tear after Vic and Ronnie tried to kill him and he went home and told his wife that they thought he was too stupid to even realize it. That moment was like the kid who gets picked on asking, "why does nobody like me?"
