Just realized there is a presidential debate on Friday night. As I was verifying this, I also noticed that one of the future debates occurs on Tuesday Oct. 7, which is a SHIELD NIGHT!!!! Episode 7:06 if I'm tracking the days/eps. properly. How could they? Why didn't those dumb political hacks check the FX TV schedule before deciding when to hold a debate? OK, I know I know. I can record things to my DVR. It'll be alright. But still, I don't watch sports much anymore, I watch very little TV other than The Shield and the news. I am still strongly "undecided" about the election. I really want/need to watch the debates in order to make my choice. They could've scheduled debates any night but Tuesday!!! How can I concentrate on a debate knowing that Vic Mackey is kicking ass on another channel? How can I possibly concentrate? Any thoughts on how this might affect The Shield's ratings for that episode? Any longtimers here remember if The Shield's ratings suffered in 2004 during any of the debates? Anyway, for those who care, below is the full debate schedule: September 26: Oxford, Mississippi October 7: Nashville, Tennessee October 15: Hempstead, New York Vice presidential debate: October 2, St. Louis, Missouri

Well, in 2004 The Shield ran from March 9th to June 15th, and the primaries had already decided John Kerry would be the Democrat nominee against Bush by March 2nd, the week before The Shield began that season. So there's no real case to look at for comparison's sake.
It does suck, but at least here on the west coast we'll get the debates early in the evening and *then* we can watch The Shield ate 10:00.
What may suck even *more*, though, is that The Shield will be broadcast, as always, on a Tuesday night. Tuesday night. Election day. November 4. And the election night coverage will likely go late. That will be one tough night for me.

That will be one tough night for me. Good point about election night, but at least then I can just leave the "coverage" for a while and watch The Shield before returning to coverage. With a debate, I don't like to flip around. I get "in the zone" with a debate (sort of like I do watching The Shield) .... my wife knows to leave me alone while watching either I forgot that The Shield usually ran in the spring before this final season. So I guess this is a first. You Left Coasters really do have messed up TV schedules (my in-laws live in California; so I've experienced it first-hand). "night" TV sporting events start at 5:30 and end before the evening news; you'll actually know who won the election BEFORE you go to bed (unless there's a repeat of 2000).

Being on the west coast does have its advantages. Usually, with live broadcasts such as sports or political events, it means we can still watch a movie or something afterwards and then go to bed.
People on the east coast get The Shield three hours earlier in "real time," and if you're on the west coast like I am, it's best to avoid this board for about four hours every Tuesday night until the episode is over, but the benefits outweight the negatives, I suppose.

I couldn't care less about the ratings, as it's the last season, and it's all kind of moot now. I know what I will be watching that night, and I know what all my friends here will be watching that night, and that's all that matters to me.

No question on what to watch for me either (no political debates going on in my part of the world... we went through our election period about 12 months ago, heck we voted our guy in within a couple of months, not like the US election thats seems to have been going on since the last election) .... but tonight has a couple of other shows coming back that I normally watch - House, Ramsays Kitchen Nightmares -- so I have to prioritise what I watch and what I record..... and how quickly I can get my grubby mits on TS.
