Simple question, and please explain why or why not. Would you like the final scene (Whatever it may be) to be a song playing or just quietness?
I personally want to hear a soft tune playing that I will remember the final moments of THE SHIELD forever by. As long as its a good, soft beat, easy going song (Kind of like the Season 2 finale song of "Overcome" by "Live" or Season 1 finale song "Trouble" by "Coldplay"), I think thats the way I want the show to go out. Whether it be Shane and Vic dead in an alley, Vic getting the needle for Terry, Ronnie killing Shane and Vic, etc. Whatever it is, I want to hear a song personally.
What about everyone else?

i would love to see that, but i gotta tell ya... i think it's going to depend heavily on the final scene, and the circumstances surrounding it. BUT if they do end the show with a song i can only imagine it will be perfectly fitting. all of the other songs they have used (the ones you mentioned, and also: disarm, til kingdom come and even the flogging molly song that went almost unnoticed in season 2) have completely new feelings attached to them after hearing them on the show. i will definitely never hear disarm the same way again. I think the show will end with a montage, unless the last scene has all the characters are in the final scene together...possibly watching vic being led out in cuffs (just a thought). either way, i think the music would only enhance it!

I'm waiting to hear a Jane's Addiction song -- Whores or Jane Says.... or a Doors song -- LA Woman, perhaps? Guns n Roses??
SR has stated a few times in various interviews that he has a particular song in mind for the last episode, but he didn't want to say what it was because the price would go up if he did. He did say it was a song from a "quintessential LA Band."

"quintessential LA band" ... isn't this obvious? The Doors Jim Morrison singing "This is the end ... " as the blood trickles down between Vic's eyes from the gunshot wound inflicted by ... OK, that's as far as I got

Yes there absolutely needs to be and ending musical montage, I just hope it is not a sad song, cause between that and the end of the show I may actually cry

^^ No matter how The Shield ends, it will not be nearly as cry worthy as the ultimate male tear-jerker ....
"Dad, wanna have a catch?"

though he doesnt use music as much as tarantino does, In my opinion Shawn Ryan is as good as tarantino is pickin out music for a scene,

ur right the season opener for season 3 comes to mind, not saying it was the best, but that season opener was as good as a season finale, at the end when they show his brother is with his wife, and he resucitates that little girl while the song is playing,

I hope it is a montage. I was really mixed about some of the ones at the beginning of the series but they are so well done that I have grown to love them. I choked up during the end of "Of Mice and Lem" when Lem went into hiding to Disarm. The end of 6.01 was great too.

I wish when the season seven dvd set comes out, that part of the "extra's" are all the FX preview spots such as the one with Johnny Cash's "Hurt" playing, etc.

As long as the final song isn't Journey "don't stop believing" I will be happy with it.
I always thought it might be the GNR version of Knockin on heavens door.

I'm starting to feel like it might be "The End" by The Doors. Still rooting for a Jane's Addiciton song, though.

This is part of Matt Roush's answer regarding his thoughts on the shield this season.
And it is an actual ending, no ambiguity, no cutting to a black screen (although there is a significant lights-out moment). I can't imagine any Shield fan will be disappointed by how it all turns out Nov. 25.
Well we already know that there is an actual ending, no fade to black sopranos style. What I found interesting was the significant lights out moment. Will this moment be in the final minutes of the show? Will it be apart of a musical montage? I really hope they do have a musical montage because this show uses music rather well. I am sure whatever song Shawn picked will just add to the awesomeness of the final shield moments and it will surely give my goosebumps goosebumps.
