is anybody experiencing any problems loading and refreshing TSR - it seems like every time I change threads or refresh the page, Photobucket keeps wanting to reload every picture which on occasion can take forever - just curious if anyone else is experiencing any problems

I was just chatting with E about this. Are you using dialup? I said to her I wonder if it's taking peeps with dialup connections a long time because I can see all those images loading at the bottom of the screen. She said it probably does take longer but you can still navigate the site while they're loading.
But if this becomes a nuisance for a lot of peeps we will do something about it .
We would appreciate more feedback on this.

It's been taking especially long to load the "Last 75 Posts" page.

I'm not positive it's all photobucket and this site. I'm on dial up and have noticed slow downs with other pages as well (that have nothing to do with photobucket) though not quite as bad. Another program I'm running though is a good indicator that the net may just be having problems right now as it keeps dropping out about every 5 minutes when normally it keeps me on for hours if I want without a problem.
Unfortunately the net isn't as stable as we'd like to think. Right now we've got storms showing up everywhere as well as this being a big time Xmas shopping weekend. I'm wondering if more people are shopping on line which can bog down servers as well as some interferance from the storms. Oh yeah, don't forget there's probably a lot of people uploading t-day picts to photobucket so that could be yet another factor hitting the photobucket servers on top of the other possibilities.
Just some thoughts!

good points, Ky. I think, inevitably though, we might have to eliminate a chunk of the smilies. Then maybe we can have a poll to make the final cut <die hard poll freak> #scratchchin#

I checked this and, sure enough, when I went to the APB board to see the pics of Mara, they were tiny! But if you click on "refresh" or "reload" they come back normal sized. We'll look into this, as well.

yeah, I'm using cable too (and Firefox), Chem - my only real complaint is when it interferes with navigation - usually I can move through the site okay but for some reason it's been stopping completely on occasion while Photobucket loads (I'm guessing this is it because at the bottom of my browser it says 'uploading Photobucket...") - those 'smilies' might be suspect too - every once in while the ones at IMDB completely freeze my broswer - regardless, thanks for checking it out - just want everything to be ready when January rolls along, ha ha!!

Thanks, jwc. We will continue to tinker with the smilies. I'm thinking of trying to determine what is the maximum no. of smilies that will not cause intolerable delays for people who use dialup connections? If the answer is zero, then we'll scrap them completely. As someone who suffered thru dialup until fairly recently I want to make sure we take care of those folks. And, don't worry, we fully realize and agree that the bottom line is to have everything regarding operation of the site maximized by the start of S05!

I like the smilies but I think maybe we have too many. Smilies are fun but they are an "extra". Have you asked about delays on Board Support?
Last week, I noticed a considerable delay (relatively speaking) in calling up the most recent posts... but it's okay again today.
Even so, the posts load within a few seconds. I think we are too accustomed to things being super fast anymore. It is a little annoying when you want to reply and then go back, though...time-wise.

The loading time for me depends on what time of day it is, perhaps it's the server having increased traffic and not the smilies?

I'm pretty sure the smilies are to blame... #kez_12# We cut the smilies list down to 20, and things are better. If anyone is still having loading problems (or any issues, really), please let us know. I am waiting on a response concerning the picture sizes. Until then, if you see tiny pics, just refresh/reload the page and the pics should reset to normal. Sorry for the inconvinience....
