Episode 505 – "Trophy"
By Cathy Cahlin Ryan
I am writing this thoroughly exhausted after working last night on a different episode and not being able to sleep. Glen asked me to write another blog and I figured it's best to plow through and get it done and not procrastinate. I remember shooting 505 mostly outside and being frozen. Being from Miami if the temp. dips under 60 I'm done for. It was also at night and I took every opportunity to hunker down in the van that we were using as the Mackey car. Myself, Delerna, the wardrobe point person on set, and I believe two Chiklis girls were with me, although it is a bit of a blur right now. The stuntwoman working with us was pretty fearless. All I could think of is imagine that's your daughter doing that. Yikes. It's definitely a special type of person that throws her head into the window of a moving car and seeks out that kind of employment. For the season two (or season three I can't remember right now) promo they asked me to jump off of a building. They thought it would be best if I do it myself. Fancying myself as somewhat athletic, (having dabbled in dance and gymnastics) I said sure. Little did I know that it was going to be the Roosevelt Hotel and I was fourteen floors up. I freaked out just looking side to side. Needless to say, after using a mattress pad and falling about three or four stories and having panic attacks – a stunt double was wisely used for the major fall. And with that experience, my stuntwoman career ended. I do think the final product for the promo was very cool though.
Working on this tv show for five seasons has been exhilarating, crazy, maddening, fun, and most of all extraordinarily rewarding. This season has allowed me to really further my range and dig deep into the soul of Corrine. The darkness and turmoil keeps mounting with each episode and keeps me on my toes as an actor. Just imagining her life and what she is going through puts me in that moment pretty quickly. Having amazing actors to work opposite doesn't hurt either. There are nights when all I want to do is go home and live my suburban life after playing a particularly wrenching scene. Just having gotten a dog, it's more suburban than ever. Having said all of that, this show has been a blessing for me personally.
Maybe, when all is said and done, the most we could hope for is that we didn't disappoint our extremely loyal fans. I hope that's the case. Thank you.
