By watching the previews before the long awaited S5 initially aired, I was pumped for what I thought would be a dramatic and action packed season. It has been dramatic. But it hasn’t been as action packed as the previews seem to make them appear to be. It almost seems like the previews select the best parts of each scene (this is natural) making it seem extremely dramatic. However, when watching those select parts in watching a complete episode, they don’t have nearly the same effect as they do in preview. I think the season is beginning to unravel and I hope episode 504 will impress me more. Does anyone feel the same way? Or am I speaking to an angry crowd ? I think I just had high expectations for the final season, that’s all.

I'm loving S5 so far, because I've learned from S4 not to trust the previews, or anyone with a deep voice hyping things up. If anything, S5 is laying down less bullshit in the previews than S4. I'm appreciative of that.

I would say don't watch the previews. They can be very misleading and it's fairly infuriating. The same can be said of 24. For some reason, Fox mis-hypes their shows in the previews. I think season 5 has been great. The IAD thing is tense and it's becoming a battle of wits. For all of his brawn, Mackey can really play a chess match if need be. I think it's a more understated season than the fourth one. It's not trying to do too much. So far so good.

Episodes 1 and 2 were plenty action packed, with the exception of 5x03's toned down violence, this season is turning out the be very exciting.

No, I have been watching S5, and as I said, it wasn't as action packed as the previews made them out to be. Of course they are still action packed, but I felt like it was false advertising

So far this season is fantastic. Much much better than season 4, and hopefully they can keep the momentum.

One thing I've learned from Season 4: NO PREVIEWS. EVER. Previews in general, not just the Shield or 24 ones, are misleading, and for me, they tend to take away from my enjoyment of a show. I think what ruined The Shield's Season 4 for me to a high degree was watching the episode previews - and buying into, like axeman61 said, "someone with a deep voice hyping things up". ;D . I swore not to watch any more episode previews of my favorite shows, and trust me, it works. I'm enjoying the hell out of Season 5 so far (even if I accidentally saw most of the preview for 5x03 - I should remember to keep my remote nearby), and I guess one reason for that (besides the fact that this season is a lot stronger than the last so far) is that I managed to avoid watching previews.

I think this season still has plenty in store for us. I remember watching the Pilot episode for The Shield, and walking away saying, "I LOVE VIC MACKEY." But then I watched the next episode or two, and they weren't nearly as "exciting" to me, but I stuck with it, and the payout was in the next episode. I feel like The Shield goes in a cycle:
An Action filled edge of your seat episode or two...then a couple of episodes that slow things down and set you up for the next edge of your seat episodes.
Don't give up on the best show on cable TV because of the Previews!
