It's clear that "best line" means different things to different people, which is good. In S05-01 CC liked that Wyms was represented, icy liked the line that fit the context of the scene the best, etc.
Last year, I came up with the line "candidates" myself and Ky helped me choose which ones made it into the poll.
For this year's season opener I came up with a set of lines, E came up with her own set (we didn't compare notes until we had our own lists), and other members also chipped in. We ended up with way too many lines! E and I have decided that we need to cut the list to 10 for next week's episode, hard as that may be. To do this I suggested to E, and she agreed, that we need to invoke the "votability principle": a line might sound good at the time, but will other people actually think it's good enough to vote for when it shows up in the poll? Sort of like when you take pictures because it seemed like a good idea at the time, then you get the pictures back and say "why the hell did I take that picture?" (all that has changed with digital photography, I know).
How do we decide a line's votability? Well, I've been doing these for quite a while so I'll just try to use my best judgement, and E's, of course. We will also try to include member-suggested lines, if possible (i.e., even if a line doesn't make it on my list or E's). If you are still reading this (heh), we'd like to encourage all members to suggest their favorite line(s) each week. We will include a new thread each week just for that purpose. Chances are, your contribution will already be under consideration. If it isn't, and ends up not being chosen, try again next week!
