Glenn has done a ga-zillion movies! I picked the most well-known of them for this poll. Vote for a favorite and tell us why! If you totally disliked one of them, why? And if I didn't mention the one you loved, please say! God, I think I just created the most difficult poll ever! Not every movie she does is fabulous, but her acting is always dead on. I am almost thinking a tie between Dangerous Liasons and Serving in Silence. I think Dangerous Liaisons is Glenn's best acting EVER... deliciously wicked (without being silly like 101 Dalmations, in which Glenn was hilarious!) Serving in Silence is very sentimental and moving--a true story about a lesbian in the military. But then she switches over to the nutcase hetero-vixen in Fatal Attraction!! Agh! I go with Dangerous Liaisons. I think that role was more difficult overall. Wow. CLOSE call! And Stepford Wives...I give a big fat "F" for terrible everything *other* than Glenn Close!! 102 Dalmations was a stinker too, imho.

I have to agree with Copperhead, even though F.A. scared the infidelty out of most men! Well, for a while anyway! ha ha The white dress scenes are my favorite. The Lion in Winter was a classic also but I don't think many people have seen her in it. I think it would work better on stage anyway.

It would be hard for me to vote in this poll since I think I've only seen two of these films, and I'm not ever sure about one of them (was The Big Chill about a reunion of former classmates, with someone killing themselves near the end? If so, I thought it was kind of a downer).
Fatal Attraction was a long time ago, but, yeah, I second what L.I. says.
I only saw the promos of Stepford Wives. It looked like they kind of made it tongue-in-cheek. I thought the orginal with Katherine Ross was quite interesting ... at least it was original.
I need to go out and rent one of these. I'm leaning toward one of the period pieces, like Lion in Winter or Dangerous Liasons. I'll probably go with the latter, unless someone convinces me to see one of the others.

Probably Dangerous Liasons or Mars Attacks. Or Reversal of Fortune. Any one of those. She's certainly done a variety of things. Plus she's a *really* theater person. I think she does some movies just to make a living. She also can sing, which I haven't heard her do since she's been in A Little Night Music on Broadway a couple of times.
Anyway, she just walked away with Dangerous Liaisons so I'll vote for that flick. 'Course it helped that she had John Malkovich to bounce off of!
As for Stepford Wives-it wasn't really that bad. It was actually kind of clever in that it ended differently than the original. Close did the remake of A Lion in Winter which was a mistake since there's no way anyone can ever do better than Katherine Hepburn and Peter O'Toole in the original. I have the original on DVD; it's such a great film! A young Anthony Hopkins is in it. That's fascinating to see.
In many ways Glenn is very similar in talent to a lot of Brit actresses like Judi Dench and Helen Mirren. They can do anything and will do anything.
I first paid attention to Helen Mirren when she made the Prime Suspect police shows although I found out later that they she was in one of my favorite films of the 80s, Excalibur, which was another take on the King Arthur legend. She's had a really long career going back to her early 20s.
I noticed Judi Dench years ago as well. She did a Brit semi-comedy/drama, As Time Goes By, that was shown on some PBS stations. There was something British-ly charming about it. Then she started being in all the James Bond films with Peirce Brosnan. It's been a long career! She's been under her peers', Maggie Smith and Vanessa Redgrave, shadow for years so it's only been in the last 15 or so years that Americans have known who she is.
Glenn, obviously, is a fixture of American screen royalty!

When Fatal Attraction came out, my beloved daughter's not-so-beloved father and I were in one of the many strange phases of our relationship and he was dating an ex-friend of mine. She was single, seemingly very independent but insidiously possessive, manipulative, megalomaniacal, and uttlerly ruthless. She took him to see Fatal Attraction. He stared at the screen frozen in fear, realizing just how much the Glenn Close character resembled the woman at his side. Then his date leaned over and whispered, "I think your wife could get crazy like that." I laughed till it hurt when he told me about it, but I told him if she ever tried to take my daughter to a park she wouldn't live long enough to get to the bunny boiling part.
Good as that movie was, my vote went to Dangerous Liasons, an amazing, timeless tale of subtle machinations and recreational cruelty.

How can I resist a timeless tale of subtle machinations and recreational cruelty? I wonder if recreational cruelty includes implements or is it just psychological? Glenn probably looks good in black leather.

Maggie wrote: "She was single, seemingly very independent but insidiously possessive, manipulative, megalomaniacal, and uttlerly ruthless..." --------------------- Really, Maggie, you must stop beating around the bush and tell us how you really think about your former husband's psycho girlfriend! Your mastery of English is beauty, babe! And it cracks me up to no end when I hear how much Fatal Attraction scared the cheating shit out of so many men! <giggle> Chem, do rent Dangerous Liaisons sometime. I think you'll enjoy it for wit alone. If not, turn off the volume and enjoy Glenn's bursting cleavage. They had her ta-tas so squeezed in her costume I don't know how she could breathe. Glenn sure goes the extra mile for her directors.

I didn't care for Glenn Close's character in The Shield, but her starring role in Fatal Attraction is one of the best from the 80s.

am I supposed to click a button to vote? ok, in the event that my post is my vote: Fatal Attraction
altho Dangerous Liaisons is more frightening IMO
I guess I'm going w/ Fatal cuz it's closer to my reality: my time frame/my culture etc
also cuz it was the reason my ex's hands trembled when he lit up a ciggy as soon as we left the theater. he was fumbling for his lighter as he rose from his seat lol
plus I loved her hair in that one
I recently read a quote from Madonna ... she was asked if she has ever been totally & completely intimidated by another person
her reply: yes, my husband's mother
Glenn's character in Liaisons flashed into my mind. I was thinking: yah, it would take someone like that to put the uppity Mrs Ritchie in the corner
ps: I agree somewhat w/ zebra re Glenn's role on TS. it's not so much that I didn't care for it ... but I was expecting more, I was thinking that it would build into something explosive or shocking by the end of the season
