personally my favorite is cherrypoppers, what is yours? ------------ Definetly Cherrypoppers. The long scene of Vic and Connie in the hotel room after she kills the john is my all-time favorite. That and Vic in the interrogation room with the woman from the brothel make this episode my pick.

yeah stovetop! and each time i see your avatar i think about this episode! Dragonchasers, my fav too! i liked Throwaway very much too though, first time we get interested in another member of the team in particular, and i just liked Tigre so much with her accent!! and the way they stole the evidence! i just couldn't believe they did that! and Let's Ride is one of my fav song too so... but the second one, just after Dragonchasers would probably be Cherrypoppers which seems...i don't know...like "the end of the world"! lol i thought it really was a dark episode (especially because of the plot) but also because of how the barn seems to "react"! water everywhere, a pedophile murderer running, Vic covering Connie's crime!!... and the kind of respect we witness for the first time between Dutch and him... yeah i loved this one too! but to be honest, i love them all!

I loved "Throwaway" myself but will probably have to vote for "Pilot" if I am only picking one right now. That just set the stage for everything from then on. Hearing Kid Rock blasting as the Strike Team prepared and commenced on the raid was just awesome. And I don't know why it stuck with me, but the shot of the stadium in the background just before they busted into the house was great camera work and said tons about the editing crew.

yea that shot with dodger stadium in the backround was very tight. I voted for pilot, but the whole jenny reborg child molestation thing really grossed me out. I could watch that ep all the time except for that part which is hard to watch....just the thought of the under age sex trade and a dad selling his kid to a perv for crack. It just grossed me out and sickened me.

I'm sure I most likley voted for the "Pilot", but I can't remember. Then after that "The Spread" and "Cupid and Psyco" Vic and Claudette were a good team with the alternating on who's way they would do things. I think S1 is the season with the most episodes that I really enjoy.

No offense to anybody here for voting the way they believe, but I'm stunned that Throwaway is leading this poll. Ah, well, it's interesting to see...
I voted for Dragonchasers out of sheer compunction. I don't know, it's just *THE* episode for me, as far as, like St. Paul on the road to Damascus, I was completely changed by it. No longer did I see The Shield as "my current favorite TV show as The X-Files swirls down the drain" (The X-Files still had a few weeks left in it, though it had actually lost its soul several years earlier) but as THE SHOW, bar none. I agree that Pilot hooked me. Blowback rocked me. Cherrypoppers enticed me. Cupid & Psycho satisfied me. Throwaway amused me.
But Dragonchasers made me fall in love for good. I think a lot of it *is* the final scene with Dutch, but of course it's all the arcs in that episode that culminate, etceteras. I think it's where the humanism of the series started to really bloom in full force (Dutch/David/Vic/Julien, just for starters).
There is really no absolute wrong answer, though.
Except The Spread. C'mon, it's a nice little episode but save Shane's emotional breakdown, the seeds planted for Dutch's serial killer, some nice Connie dialogue and the guy from Reservoir Dogs being a complete total weirdo, it's kind of thin. But, hey, as I list its attributes it still towers over most of TV.

I can't believe that nobody's throwing in a word for "Two Days of Blood/Circles" (which I treat in my head as 2 halves of one episode). Not that "Pilot", "Cherrypoppers" and "Dragonchasers" weren't phenomenal episodes, but the 2 episodes at the end of the season were the first (of many since) that had me absolutely on the edge of my seat. When the riot started at the end of "Two Days" I literally had goose bumps and my heart was racing. And then when the credits rolled I was like, "What!?!? Oh, hell, no. What!?!?! I have to wait a WEEK to see the end of this story?!? Aaiigh!" Lol. . .
I also like "Cupid and Psycho", not only for the Vic/Claudette dynamic, but for Shane/Dutch as well, which was hilarious (Dutch: "He wants to take me to the Monster Truck rally next week. "). And then Dutch does exactly what he despised Shane for even thinking of doing --i.e., hooking up with the grieving widow. And I love the song "All My Little Words" that plays at the end. I wouldn't consider it the "best" episode --it is a little gimmicky with the role-reversals, and the sheep-humping thing was a little gratuitous-- but I think it deserves an honorable mention.

I gotta go with the first episode, the "Pilot". It's what got me excited about the show and i just wanted to see the next episode right after the first ended, and the episode was just excellent.
