I watched the 2nd ep last night, a little better, but still not hooked. I have to say I am kinda dissappointed in this SR endevour. Just not up to the quality of the shield, the unit, or even Terriers which I just thought was ok.

Just not up to the quality of the shield, the unit, or even Terriers which I just thought was ok. Yeah, TS was a tough act to follow for anyone, even SR. A columnist for our local newspaper, who thought TS was by far the best thing on TV when it was on and raved about it constantly, was less than enchanted with The CC. I'll have to check out what Mo Ryan (no relation), TV critic of the Chicago Tribune, has to say about it. I wonder how she'll handle it if she doesn't think it's that great, either, being a great admirer of SR, esp. since he's the local boy made good. This guy for our paper, Jay Cronley, writes a column about this and that 3x a week. He's written a few screenplays that have been made into movies, so he knows something about the business. Here are excerpts from his column yesterday: "The new Chicago Code is mostly lousy. The female cop boss isn't believable and they talk too fast. Justified on FX is good. It is based on a Leonard Ellmore character. Old School usually trumps new school. Most TV shows seem to work on the premise that they're not going to be any good. If the public catches on, producers and writers panic over all the attention and resort to cheap junk from the past, office romances, visitors from space and the like." He liked Terriers, btw.

I watched ep 3 last night and couldn't help but think of Damages, the FX show starring Glenn Close (is that still on?). Both have strong female lead characters in charge of a large team and are fighting a strong male bad guy. And, boy, Gibbons is one bad m*therf*cker! He's like a wrestler about to get the three-count when he flips his opponent off him and pins them instead.

Gibbons is like Mackey, always on the edge of getting caught, but flips it and gets off clean!

Damages will be on DirectTV only for its new season - apparently it's going to be quite a season - I just hope NetFlix or someone will stream it
I have to sympathize with SR - he's trying to duplicate his Shield success and, as a successful producer/writer, it is surely his goal to be on a major network with its bigger audience potential and way bigger budgets - but, he is totally hamstrung by the limitations of the network censors - just think how cool CC would be on FX - instead, we get the 'lite' version - I like the characters (although I am souring on Jennifer Beals) but it's just never gonna be the truly gritty crime show it could have been - FX screwed him so bad with Terriers I can see why he would never work with them again but I can't help wish this and Justified were running back-to-back

I'm watching the CC out of loyalty to SR. Gibbons' character is very interesting though. Like badcop said, a black Vic Mackey. I never had a chance to see Terriers, but heard it was critically acclaimed. I don't know the story of SR getting screwed by FX over it. What happened? I watched S01 of Damages and for various reasosn didn't see any of the later seasons. If it's only going to be on DirecTV I for sure won't see any more of it. Why the hell would it be on DirecTV only, btw? Yeah it would be cool if NetFlix streamed it. We're waiting for that to happen with S06 of Weeds. Don't know if it will, so we requested the first DVD via their regular mailer discs. The entire TV landscape sure is changing with streaming TV, Bblockbuster getting bought out of bankruptcy, cable vs. satellite, vs fiber optics (AT&T Uvision), etc. Hard to keep up with. I love the competition aspects, though. After AT&T touted their single DVR for all TVs in a house, Cox Cable came out with their version. You know that wouldn't have happened or would have taken a lot longer if not for the competition. And NetFlix pretty much put Blockbuster out of business by being the first to do the streaming thing. I love our Roku player!

Direct TV is the only one showing damages because FX dropped it, and Direct TV was the only one to pick it up. I have Direct TV, and love it.
I do feel damages sort of ran it's course though, and I bet FX feeled the same way.

I am persisting with Chicago Code, but haven't watched this weeks ep yet, usually save it for the weekend when there's nothing else on. I was hoping they'd get to the badass shield-esque arc and character!
Don't watch Damages.

The more and more I watch new and different shows, some are very good, but I become more convinced the Shield was the best show there ever was or will be.

I do feel damages sort of ran it's course though, and I bet FX feeled the same way. the main problem was that Glenn Close would only film in NYC and that drove up the production costs to the point of no return for FX - S3 was sort of a let down (but not much considering the first two seasons) - S4 is supposed to be really good - I don't get DirectTV but hope to find a torrent when it comes out

Jose Zuniga was on the latest ep of Chicago Code - he had a great part right at the end of S3 (I think) as an undercover cop - the Team was in a bar celebrating the money train success and he was lurking in the background listening and the ep seemed to be setting up some sort confrontation for S4, but then he never reappeared (I think he got a gig on another show) - always liked him though
CC needs to lose Jennifer Beals though - she is the weak link right now
also, some interesting news for fans of Starz' original productions - if you were like me you were up every Saturday morning to get the Netflix stream of the new Spartacus episode and I was looking forward to doing the same for Camelot - but Starz pulled the plug on that deal and is starting a 90-day wait period for Netflix - Showtime did the same thing yesterday

"Corrine" was on CC yesterday. She played a bad ass lawyer. She was only on for one scene and I wonder if she'll be on again or this was it.

Glen Mazzara emailed me with updates on what TS writers are up to. He said the CC has been canceled. I'll post the rest of the news when I get a chance--work is coming to a pressure peak this week and next.

CC didn't have enough meat in it, needed more substance.... something... anything.
I need May/June filler programs till shows I actually want to watch start up in July... waiting for the likes of Breaking Bad, Curb your Enthusiasm.... Weeds... but now have two months to fill. Anyone got any suggestions? Current or not, am willing to download old stuff if I like the sounds of it.
Hanging out for September too, but don't want to get too ahead of myself!

Chicago Code was ok, but I think Beals ruined it. She did not fit the part well.
Well I am left with the last season of Rescue Me coming up, and SOA. Guess those are my 2 last favorites to watch.
I do agree the Chicago Code if on FX could have been grittier, and probably would have lasted.
