Shawn Ryan's new show on Fox premieres on Feb. 7, 2011. Anyone plan on watching? I probably will just bec. it's from SR, but I'm wondering what will distinguish this from being just another cop show? Fer chrissakes, there is no shortage of those.
Cop shows, lawyer shows, doctor shows, ad nauseum--does Hollywood ever stop trying to find some formula that won't be the same ol' drivel with nothing new except the faces?

I've seen ep1 and it's pretty good - well-cast with a sort of macro-view story like The Shield - Delroy Lindo is really good and totally believable as a crooked politician - shame he never got a part in The Shield - still, Terriers was WAY better - but that's what happens when you deviate from the formula and get no help from the network - you get cancelled

Yeah I agree, but I am sure many other thought the "shield" was just another cop show too! It was far from it. Anyway being from Chicago, I will watch just to see some local sights and to see what I can recognize. Plus anything from SR is worth a watch.

It's worth a look, if it's same old cop show though I'm out...
I know no one cares about No Ordinary Family, I found it interesting that this show has been picked up already by an aussie network. Our networks are usually slow to pick up any new shows from the US, must be the Chiklis appeal! Wish they hadn't picked up Sh!t my dad says... I watched about 30 seconds of the first episode, heard the canned laughter and deleted it from my hard drive. If a show needs to tell their audience when to laugh, the content is NOT funny.... sorry big gripe of mine.... 21st century tv shows do not need canned laughter.

I have seen Animal Kingdom, it is based loosely on events (police killings) that happened in Melbourne back in the 80s, but the characters themselves are not based on any real people.
It is a pretty full on movie.

This is off-topic but I have been enjoying the sights of Melbourne shown during the Australian Open tennis tournament. Beautiful place--I'd love to visit some day!

Ok so who watched it??? I thought it was Just OK. Did not hook me in the first ep like the shield did (although very few things ever have)
I find the lead character very unlikeable, and very unrealistic, especially the opening chasing down the stolen car. I will give it another go, but so far dissappointed.

It pains me to say this, but I give it a 5.4 / 10 mainly because of The Shield...
The Shield had me roped in within the first 20 seconds, this show took me like 5 minutes....
Hopefully it gets better!

STFL I am inclined to agree. One thing pulling me back to watch the next episode is that Jason Clarke, the lead dude is an aussie. One turn off was that he was cheating on his fiance by banging his ex, granted the mother of his child, still no reason to cheat. If that is the part of the story line I remember then it didn't really grab me. However there's sweet FA on tv these days, so I'm willing to give it another shot.

I will give it a few more episodes - I think all this one did was give us the background - I saw a screener of ep2 and it really ups the ante - they get right to the showdown with Delroy Lindo and Jennifer Beals goes to battle - it would be SOOOO much better on FX but shooting in Chicago calls for a bigger budget than FX can provide - better than The Unit but no Terriers

I'm all for not restricting roles to pretty faces, and TS was pretty good that way, but this guy? I think another show SR was involved with, The Unit, was much better (right, bc?) but I will also will give the Code a few more tries.

It wasnot bad at all,I clearly saw the hand of Shawn Ryan, the scene in the alley looked a copy of a scene in The Shield. Did find a lot,and I mean a LOT happened in 1 Episode maybe a bit too much, but will check the new episode out again

Too bad it was too expensive to produce, it was a great show. I am also sad it ended with some ?'s still unanswered, like if Jonas got his wife back or not.

Mind you I didn't recognise him, I just looked up The Chicago Code on IMDB and saw his bio. Apparently he was in a bunch of aussie stuff, just shows that I didn't/don't watch.
So imo, your comment on not knowing where they got the main lead is actually valid!

I agree that the 2nd ep was a lot better. I also agree with Kungfu about seeing the Shawn Ryan stamp. The 2nd ep seemed like a combination of the investigation part of Law and Order (the mothership), but racier, and TS. The line by Jason Clarke (the aussie, ahem, playing Jarek Wysoki, the lead cop) "does deafness run in your family?" sounded like something Vic would say. I just read the user review on IMDb.com (the only one shown on the first page) and it lambasted the show ... gave it one star out of seven. Whew. Cmon, it's television. Some of the other reviews (on the linked-to page) were praising but a few were also brutal.
