I may be jumping the gun by 6 days, but I thougt while we all wait in anticipation, why not put our unproductivity to use and start nominating BEST LINE EVERY for the entire series.
Chem keeps hinting he will run this poll soon after the series ends, so let's start throwing out nominees now.
A suggestion for nominated lines. I you can't remember the line from memory nearly word-for-word, then it probably doesn't qualify for BEST OF THE SERIES. These are the lines that are etched in your brain, folks. If you can remember season and/or episode as well, great. But don't go digging up every funny one-liner Shane or Billings or someone said. These are THE BEST LINES EVER UTTERED IN THE BEST TV SHOW OF ALL TIME. So let's make this nominating process as profound as these lines should be:
I'll start with ...
Vic - "Good cop and bad cop left for the day. I'm a different kind of cop" (1:01)
Vic - "We're gonna find out who did this; and we're gonna kill em" (5:11)
Shane - "Lem! I'm sorry! But I had to right?" (5:11)
Aceveda - "He's Al Capone with a badge" (1:01)
Shane - "We killed a cop" Vic - "Get over it and don't bring it up again" (1:03)
Vic - "I killed Detective Terry Crowley" (7:12)
Vic - "Blessed is he who delivers the assholes unto me."
Lem to Becca - "You're trying to get me to turn on my family" (5:11)
Shane to Vic - "All I was doing was just following your game plan, coach" (6:06)
Shane to Mara - "Vic and Ronnie tried to kill me tonight ... you know, the worst part is, they think I'm too stupid to even realize it." (7:06)

My top 4
"I've done worse." - Vic
"From now on when I say suck my dick, you say 'do you want me to lick your balls daddy?'" - Antwan to Shane
"Good cop and bad cop left for the day. I'm a different kind of cop." - Vic
"I was just following your game plan, coach." - Shane to Vic

Oh how I love this idea. Here are some that I can think of right now. I picked these because they just stuck with me. Some of them may not be as profound as others, but I love em' regardless. Maybe there should be two polls. One for the best serious line and one for the funniest.
Vic: " I killed Detective Terry Crowley."
Vic: " Well maybe in your own mind, amigo. But in the real world, I don't answer to you. Not today, not tomorrow, not even on Cinco de Mayo."
Lem: " Why can't we do what we are supposed to, and then stop?"
Vic to Aceveda : " You're not a cop. You never were."
Shane: " Eatin' aint cheatin."
Lem: " Unless she has a p*ssy that cures cancer...."
Vic to Kav: " Let me remind you of a few things you seem to have forgotten. I didn’t kill Terry. You’ve lost your leverage with Lem. And you’re ex-wife’s p*ssy… tastes like sweet butter."
Diro: " We can't seperate the ones we love from the choices that we make."
Diro to Shane: " Your sentiment will destroy you."
Vic : " We're gonna find out who did and we're gonna kill em'."
Shane: "You ever think about coming clean... about everything?" Vic: "No."

^ good lines tigerlily, I had forgotten the Lem line about "doing what we're supposed to do and then stop" .... also the Diro' line about "the ones we love" is great.
Another strong line just popped into my head from this season ...
Corrine to Vic "You have to pay some kind of price." (7:08)

There will be a process for this. No harm in starting this thread now, but it's gonna be a while before we're ready for the best lines of the series poll. One bit of good news is that in suffering through my work email morass I came a across old folders containing best line candidates for seasons 3 and 4. That means S01 and 02 are the only seasons for which there was no poll. We're gonna go through all the seasons. This will be sort of like methadone for us TS junkies out there. We'll be making announcements after some of the mourning over the finale subsides. Hopefully, peeps will be ready to re-start by 1-1-09! I'll keep an eye on the "Doc, I may need help ..." thread

Well, there have been too many good lines for me to pick one or even ten as the best. I will, however, offer up Claudette's line from last night as the best unintentionally hilarious line of the series.
Claudette: You're fired ya sanctimonious son of a bitch. Dutch: Fired? Claudette: Ya heard. Now go on back to the Barn, pick up your sh*t and get the hell out.
I've viewed Dutch with ambivalence throughout the entirety of this series. I don't like Claudette and her by the rules b.s. but my love/hate relationship w/ Dutch is on the hate side right now and with one episode left I'm going to say goodbye to Dutch with a feeling of hatred.
I got sick of his character having a holier than thou attitude while he was out "cracking" cases and taking every opportunity he could to nail vulnerable women. It wouldn't bother me but for the fact that everyone else on the show is who they are without making any bones about it:
Vic has been a crooked s.o.b since day one but he laughed in people's faces and never pretended that they didn't know it and he didn't know it.
Ronnie was crooked but he was quite and he knew what he was doing. He somehow seemed, until the last few episodes, to stay beyond reproach or suspicion but that wasn't because he acted like something other than what he is.
Shane, in my opinion, has been the biggest piece of sh*t from the word go but he's reconciled that with himself, too. He never though that he was just "fighting the good fight". He wanted his and took it.
Lem was a piece of sh*t with a conscience; he was torn because he recognized that he was a p.o.s and it bothered him.
Claudette has been this by the book witch since day one and she hasn't strayed or played it any other way.
But Dutch, good ol' Dutch, on the other hand, thinks of himself as this altruistic guy--meanwhile he's out doing some slimy sh*t without a hint of compunction. I love Karnes, he is a great actor, but I hate Dutch the most.
I don't know, as a matter of fact, that Shawn Ryan was aiming to create those feelings for some of the viewers. I'm guessing that he was because different people find fault with different characters. I've always been amazed that I know only one other person who hates Dutch. I have a group of about ten friends that watch faithfully--he and I are the only two that don't like the guy and, as a long time reader (without contributing) of this board, I'm surprised that I see very little anti-Dutch sentiment.
Ironically, however, I would love a spin-off with Dutch and Billings. Maybe Claudette moonlighting here and there and, perhaps, a continuing story line with Dutch, when time permits him, searching for whichever member(s) of the Strike Team walk away from the finale. There's not a snowball's chance in hell that a spinoff happens (Ryan has too much integrity) but I would love to see it!!

Vic to Kav: "Let me remind you of a few things you seem to have forgotten. I didn’t kill Terry. You’ve lost your leverage with Lem. And you’re ex-wife’s p*ssy… tastes like sweet butter." That was a freakin' epic line. And I'm not sure this classifies as 'greatest' line, but it always makes me laugh: Shane - "Can you read their lips?" Lem - "Even if I could, I don't speak Armenian, bro." Another one I love: Shane to Antwon - "They're gonna find him, lying face down, in the shower - with a back full of shiv and an ass full of come."

Yes that line is epic. I believe I read or heard in an interview, I can't remember which, that people would yell to Chiklis sweet butter when he was out and about...lol. The fans seem to love it. It was one of those lines where I was like,"did he just say what I think he did?"...lol.

Best line ever for me, the one that always gets to me is
"we killed a cop!" by Shane in I think ep 2...?
It's just the amazing way Walt said it I remember thinking "what an actor!"

Season 2 Episode 1 - The Quick Fix, Vic yells to gang banger:
"Hey Moe! Your sisters ass really taste as sweet as Alvarez here says it does?! He wants to know what yo mommas puttin in the corn muffins!"
Then he starts laughing and rolls up the window, LOL!!! Truly a very, very funny line.

Here's one that really stuck with me from this season:
"Vic and Ronnie tried to kill me tonight and the worst part is, they think I'm too dumb to even realize it." - Shane to Mara

Yes that was an amazing line. I felt so bad for Shane and he was right though. They didn't realize that he knew until after he tried to kill them. These writers are so damn good.

This has to be my favorite Vic: " Well maybe in your own mind, amigo. But in the real world, I don't answer to you. Not today, not tomorrow, not even on Cinco de Mayo."
I liked the one where Jasper said "I get more black ass than a bus stop bench"
And the "sweet Butter" line is in my top 5 too!
Oh, for Funniest line, it has to be when Billings gives Vic 2 thumbs up, and Vic gives 2 thumbs up back and says "Yeah stick these up your ass" Or something close to that. I laughed for a week.

The "back full of shiv" line above reminded me of one of the most shocking and raw (not necessarily "best") lines for me ... from same scene when Shane confronted Antwon in the interrogation room and tried to bait him into a fight so he could kill him ... he got right in his face and shouted something like ".... but at the end of the day you're just a n*gger with a f*ggot n*gger son!"

Mine vote is for Dutch's delivery of Ronnie's arrest.
Dutch to Ronnie: You're under arrest. Ronnie: For what? Dutch: The last three years (as if, duh!).

Shane: You think you're looking at me through some window when all you're doing is looking at a mirror. (6:6)
Kavanaugh's Pissing Soliloquoy (5:10)
Antwon's Lick my balls line (4:5)
Shane's line about the reality that Mara and him will only have each other for the rest of their fugitive lives and no other friends (7:10)
This one is not particularly memorable but rather funny since the whole episode was rather sombre and depressing: Dutch to Billing's Lawyer: "The Bitch Dyke?" (7:13)
Vic: It's better than the alternative! Right now this is about keeping you alive. (5:10)
Again, not particularly memorable, but damn funny, when Ronnie is taking bets for Lem's Arm Wrestling Match and he says that "Dutch is facing Stephen Hawkins in the undercard" (Promosode)
Kavanaugh: I won't be the one hearing my dead friend's screams in my head. One day the universe will take out its trash.

There are some seriously funny bits missing in this thread.....
Shane: I like my women tiny. Tina: Why? So your dick fits better?
Dutch, Vic, Shane, etc: You gotta be shittin' me (and also on Sons of Anarchy)
Vic <to Shane about the missing drugs>: You stopped to get LAID? Lem: Jesus Christ! Amy's not even that hot!
Vic: We'll just beat IAD again next year....

The very first line that comes to mind every time I see this thread is from the Pilot:
Good Cop and Bad Cop left for the day. I'm a different kind of cop.
It's simple and accessible. You could tell that line to someone who's never seen a moment of The Shield and they'd understand it. It requires no knowledge of the show to grasp its significance. That line is brilliant all of its own. Hell, that line alone probably sold the Pilot to FX.
There are so many others that have more heavyweight deliveries, that have nuanced meanings and repercussions. So many lines that were years in the making, hilarious ones and traumatic ones alike.
But Good Cop/Bad Cop just says it all.

Some lines that I got a little chuckle out of: Billings: "I'm still feeling a little woozy. I'll take that personal day after all" (or something like that) Claudette: "We'll try to fill the void."
Dutch: "I bet he says 'and so forth' at least four times." after Billings' speech Dutch: "Don't hate me because I'm right."
Lem: Jesus Christ, dude. Amy's not even that hot!!"
Lem: "How come every piece of ass you hit is more trouble than the last?"
While Ronnie talks about golf to a stripper Shane: "Is he serious?...I can't take this anymore! I'm going in there!" Lem: "Ronnie, Ronnie, Ronnie, Ronnie."
Vic to Diagur: "How come every time I see you, you've got your mouth wrapped around some clam?"

Co-Pilot:
Lem: "Ok, so we keep at him. We hit him long enough and hard enough, he'll get the message." Shane: "You an expert on making guys long and hard?"
hahaha Gotta love that one.
