I'm considering purchasing all of the existent single-season DVDs, one through six.
However, I'm a bit confused. I've read a few different places that the older releases lack the "Previously on The Shield" bits completely. Is this true? Is it on every previously released The Shield DVD, or only particular (a) Season(s)?
I couldn't find any more information on it, which is why I'm asking here. If the previous releases of the DVDs are lacking the segments, do the new releases have them? I really don't want to purchase a DVD that lacks them, as they're pretty enjoyable, and essential the the episode in its entirety. In my opinion, anyway.

If you're talking about the Region 1 (USA) DVDs, you've come to the right place for this question. There are two sets of Seasons 1-5 available: Fox (fullscreen) & Sony (widescreen). Here's the breakdown as to the "Previously, on The Shield" segments: Season 1: Fox: Not there Sony: All are present Season 2: Fox: All are present Sony: Not there Season 3: Fox: All are present Sony: Are there on about 4 of the 15 episodes Season 4: Fox: All are present Sony: All are present Season 5: Fox: All are present Sony: All are present Season 6: Sony: All are present To get all the "Previously, on The Shield" segments, you'd have to mix & match between DVD sets, which would mean mixing & matching between fullscreen & widescreen. Annoying, isn't it? Thankfully, I don't care about those segments. While each set has their own pros & cons, if you have to pick one of the sets, I'd have to say go with the Sony sets. Especially if you have a widescreen TV. The Fox sets are unwatchable on mine....

Thanks a ton, especially for such a precise answer. Damn, though. Just going to make DVD hunting even more difficult now.
In any case, appreciate it.

I had no idea there was a widescreen set. I've already got four seasons in full-screen.
Symbiote, just a tip, but for the last couple of years, DeepDiscount.com has run buy-one, get-one specials on box sets right around the holidays. I picked up several box sets a couple of years ago for about $15 / season. And I heard Amazon did a $5 / set deal last week with Heroes and a few other shoes. Since Thanksgiving is right around the bend, it might be worth waiting for. Check out techbargains.com, slickdeals.net, and blackfriday.info for a heads up on which retailers have what deal going. Usually the really good deals get posted to one of those sites really quickly.

Thanks wgjones. I already purchased Season 1, 2, and 5 off of eBay, but still need to get ahold of the rest of the seasons. Still waiting on 1 and 5 to arrive, but I paid $14 for Season 2, and $21 in a bundle for 1 and 5. I thought it was a good deal. Not sure if it's the correct Season 1, though, so I may end up selling it.

This is going to bug me. I purchased Seasons 1, 4, and 6 today, all Sony. Six was fine, everything seemed to have the proper "Previously on The Shield" segments. I started up 4, the first episode's "Previously on The Shield" was missing, second one has it..but the music is missing, I believe. That, or they tried using new music for the segments(it's horrible). Is it supposed to be like this? It's been a long while since I watched Season 4. Is it also like this on the Fox version?

Anybody know if they are going to release a box set for the entire series? I'm debating whether to by each season piece by piece or just in swoop.

I don't know how official it is or who put it out, but I've seen it circulating for some time. tampa-florida.olx.com/complete-dvd-box-set-of-the-shield-seasons-1-5-90-iid-12438645Looks like that, except they've began releasing it with Season 6 included as well.

Just an FYI - Amazon is selling the sets for $15.99 a season for "Black Friday" (but I think the sale will go through Dec 2). www.amazon.com...okay, well the prices already went back up.

So I went to my local earlier today and picked up the Sony releases that I needed that I was missing. Note that the Fox releases aren't on sale(they're out of production), so the ones on sale are all Sony releases..not that it matters for anyone but myself, seems I'm a bit weird and picky for liking the "Previously on The Shield" segments so much.

The first episode of season 4 did not have a Previously on The Shield segment (on TV or anywhere.) Both Fox & Sony sets are accurate to the TV versions. They used different music for Season 4, for some reason. The did make a Previously on the Shield segment for the first episode that was never aired. Check it out:

Lol. Thanks again, Jan. Just wanted to confirm. Season 4, although the season I was hooked on, always seems to disappoint me the most out of the other seasons for some reason.

Yet another question since I can't seem to find a picture anywhere for confirmation, or any information:
Did Fox's Season 3 release come with 4 DVD cases(like Sony's releases, only with two more cases) with 1 DVD per case, or something? And Sony's release only has two DVD cases, two DVDs per case? Trying to find out from eBay auctioneers whether or not their item is the Fox or Sony release is proving to be difficult.

The Fox version has four cases each holding one DVD. Thanks. Fox really did a horrible job on their releases, should've had one type of packaging for every release, like Sony.

Oh, my God. We finally got a PS3, which means we finally have Blu-Ray. I just watched Indiana Jones, Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3, Casino Royale, and The Dark Knight in HD. Christ almighty! My 400+ DVD collection has just become worthless! I don't think I can watch anything in standard definition again! The fact that Lord of the Rings and Star Wars are not available on Blu-Ray is just another excuse God has if He's thinking of ending the world....
I can't wait for The Shield in Blu-Ray!!!!
