I can't comment on Blu-Ray. I haven't seen a comparison, but with my vision not being the greatest I wonder how much difference there would be for me. I now it's cool to be able to say you have the latest technology, but sometimes there are problems with distribution / availablity when you're waiting for the cutting edge. You're young, you got time. I've seen Blu-Ray. For movies or TV shows shot in HD, or even fully restored 35mm movies, the difference between DVD & Blu-Ray can be night & day. I don't know if it would be for something shot in 16mm. Anyway, I've always tried to keep my setup pretty cool. My surround sound setup & DVD setup have been cool with only my TV falling behind. Now we got a new huge HDTV & it's kind of a bummer to see how shitty a lot of my DVDs look in that resolution. When the TV shows (HD channels) look better than my movie collection, something isn't right. An upscaling player helps a little bit, but not much. Anyway, I'm not taking the plunge for Blu-Ray yet. But once Blu-Ray versions of either Star Wars or Lord of the Rings are released, they'll have me by the balls....

I broke down & bought the new Sony release of Season 1. Here are my nitpicks about the differences with the original release:
The new set is in widescreen, which is a night & day difference from the old set on my HDTV.... The "Previously on The Shield" segments absent on the original Season 1 set are here. But, the 1st chapter stop is after the opening credits, not the recap. What a shitload of f*ck! Also, there are no chapter selection menus. All the original extras are here, minus the original script of the Pilot. The credits all replace the Columbia-Tristar logo with the Sony logo....
Overall, the technical presentation is much better on this set. Plus, since they're a slim cased, getting these Seasons will save me space on my shelf....

What about in the first opening scenes where Dutch and Claudette are in that house with the naked woman who is covered with pot holders on her lady parts? On the DVD set I have, it never shows a shot of her, but on TV the camera pans down to her and shows her covered in the 3 pot holders.

^ You're talking about Pilot. The shot I have on my DVDs is a side view of a breast in the foreground and the camera is aimed up at Dutch and Claudette. What aired on TV was a full-bodied shot of her lying on the floor. There is only 1 potholder covering her crotch as I recall....

How is the artwork on the covers? You have pictures? The art is the same on the new release, except it just says "Season 1" instead of "The Complete First Season". The cover is also printed normally, as opposed to the reflective golden effect the original set had. The covers of the slipcases are the same as the cardboard sleeve....
