I read the following post on tvshowsondvd.com
The Shield - Season 6 moves from Fox to Sony We've always had news on The Shield by this time of the year, so we started looking into why Fox hasn't made an announcement for season 6, and the answer wasn't what we expected. The Shield, which airs on F/X, is a co-production between 20th Century Fox Television and Sony Pictures Television, and for the past 5 years 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has released the show on DVD. Due to the contracts the companies have, the DVD rights will be moving from Fox to Sony sometime in 2008 (we weren't able to nail down a date). It wouldn't make sense for Fox to release a DVD set and then lose the right to sell it a short time later, so they don't have plans for season 6, and Sony doesn't have the rights to the series yet, so they can't work on it either. Sony will obtain rights to seasons 1-5, and well as seasons 6 and 7. We saw a similar situation when Fox lost the rights to Dynasty after releasing the first season. We'll keep you updated on the latest in this situation, but for now fans of The Shield shouldn't hold their breath for an early-2008 release of season 6.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Season 6 again. Somehow, despite some flaws it had, I think it was largely underrated by many. There were a lot of moody episodes last season and I give the writers credit for not going for the "OH MY GOD!" ending like Season 5, even if we all would have been perfectly fine with it. The statement by Michael Chiklis recently about Vic's fate made my appetite grow for the final season more than anything else. It's going to be great.

even if they did release the dvd's in europe before the u.s. won't we be able to order them on amazon? if so it seems silly to delay one and not the other.
what exactly does "region 2 format" mean?

Region 2 means that it can only be played on European/UK DVD players.

Well I understand that Sony are re-releasing seasons 1-5 in March in the US(saw somewhere here) which just happens to be the same time as when season 6 is released in europe. Im sure Sony have planned it all out and made sure that its out the same time or maybe even a week before europe Dont worry about it

Region 2 means that it can only be played on European/UK DVD players. I have several region free DVD players so I could get it if it came out in Europe first. Their sets are all widescreen too, which is a plus.... The only downside is that all the region 2 sets so far have been slightly censored, which is enough to prevent me from buying those sets.... Any word on if the re-released sets are just re-issues, or will they have new features?

[ The only downside is that all the region 2 sets so far have been slightly censored, which is enough to prevent me from buying those sets.... I know Armadillos burning was censored, but didn't realise there were other cuts too. Do you have info on what was cut? I only have seasons 1+2 on region 2 DVD - since they were released, we have had NOTHING until last year. So we were forced to buy region 1 for seasons 3, 4 + 5. It was really shitty of us having a drought for 4 years or so regarding these releases. Because region 2 companies stiffed us by forcing us to buy from overseas, then I shall be waiting for the region 1 release of season 6 too. Bastards.

I remember when I lived there being titillated by seeing ... tits ... on TV and thinking why can't we have it together like that over here? Um, folks, just because you see something written down doesn't make it true. ESPECIALLY on the internet.

I never knew there was censoring on Region 2 versions before, is there many moments censored?? Here's an example: Region 2 Armadillo scene: youtube.com/watch?v=IvrqertQxe8Region 1 version: youtube.com/watch?v=W3nPT-HaGCYI would have them both embedded, but the violent Region 1 version has embedding disabled.... As a result, I had to post the censored version on MySpace to all my Mexican friends for Cinco de Mayo.... This is the most well-known example of the Region 2 censoring. Even if it was only for this scene, I could never pick the Region 2 version over the Region 1 set. After watching both versions, isn't the full version so much better? This is one of the best scenes in the history of The Shield, and it was raped for Region 2..... I'm wondering whether or not to re-buy the first few Seasons to get the Region 1 uncensored widescreen versions. Should I just wait for the eventual Blu-Ray version? The show is shot in 16mm, so I don't know if Blu-Ray will be that much better. Any opinions?

Any idea if they will do BluRay? I hope so.... I just got a new 50" widescreen HDTV & the shitty Region 1 fullscreen standard DVDs just aren't cutting it.....

The show is shot in 16mm, so I don't know if Blu-Ray will be that much better. Any opinions? I stand corrected. Seeing is believing. And I guess I can understand having violence censored, but not titties. The difference in the two versions is subtle, but I agree that I'd rather have the uncensored version. With the other, there would be that seed of doubt of what else will be censored. But, watching that scene again, OMFG!! I can't comment on Blu-Ray. I haven't seen a comparison, but with my vision not being the greatest I wonder how much difference there would be for me. I now it's cool to be able to say you have the latest technology, but sometimes there are problems with distribution / availablity when you're waiting for the cutting edge. You're young, you got time. I do remember that in the studio commissary each table had a little stand-up card that was touting Blu-Ray as the next generation of digital viewing media for picture clarity and more storage capacity. I also remember a roommate in college who bragged on having the greatest stereo system and how I chuckled to myself when I noticed that he didn't take care of his records (yeah, I know, what are those? ha ha), so you could hear scratchy sounds from the dust on them, scratches, etc. While we're on the subject, I looked more closely at the ad for the new Panasonic big-screen (not hard to do since they're playing that ad to death). I mis-stated in a different thread how cool it is that a TV has a USB input. turns out, the Panasonic has an SD memory card input, not USB. Duh, I should have realized that. But maybe someday, in fact, undoubtedly some day that will be true: a big-screen computer / TV with USB inputs. Won't that be cool?
