I must have missed something. How did Tina find out Julien was/is gay. She was obviously trying to kiss his ass to get him off her back but he just wants to kill her now. I think he will wash her out the next time she screws up. I originally gave this episode a C but think the stage has been set for some kick ass episodes coming up. Only 5 more episodes before our forced break.

I haven't voted yet or wrote my thing up, but I see a lot of great commentary here. I have to say also that I love "E"s new trippy Avatar. Also, personacom - that is a kick ass black and white avatar pic of Shane. I have never seen that before. LOVE IT!!

I do agree that this ep was one-liner mania. Too many! Last week didn't have enough strong ones and this time went overboard. Casper was spitting them out so fast I couldn't catch them. And is it really necessary to slam women so much? That gets a little old... and this ep was a bad one that way. As a female fan I don't appreciate some of these one-liners... like all of the rape stuff last year. Kind of hard to watch sometimes.

We're getting a tad off topic, but I'll go ahead and chime in with something.... I often wonder about the female fans of shows like this... I would imagine it takes a certain type of woman to enjoy The Shield, but what kind of women are we here? Something I've noticed is we all seem to be very expressive of our opinions, but women and men who join forums are looking for a place to be expressive anyway. It's late and I'm tired and I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but it's something to either ponder further or delete in the morning.... haha.

I think he will wash her out the next time she screws up. I originally gave this episode a C but think the stage has been set for some kick ass episodes coming up. Only 5 more episodes before our forced break. It was after Billings' comment about how Julien should really be able to sink his teeth into this case (the dick trap--YOW!!!). She had a look on her face like "hmmm ...". I give this ep a B. What I didn't like: 1. Tina jumping to the conclusion that Julien is gay just from Billings' remark was weak. (more on the "glory hole" in the nitpicker thread). 2. Dutch going to Fatima's house and not looking around the corner of the house to see if there was anyone who might spot him was not believable. 3. Danny and Corinne caving in. Okay, maybe they panicked because of Kav's threats, but still. Like someone said, what happened to the strong Danny? And Corinne telling Kav. about the bag of money? I don't think so. What I liked: 1. The scowls Corinne and Aceveda gave Vic after talking to Kav. The similarity in their expressions was priceless! 2. How the Kav-Aceveda tension is building. 3. Seeing the flossin and pussy tossin Ho's ass -- damn I was jealous of Vic having his hand on top of her crack. 4. Some of you have said the dialogue was over the top, but I liked it--esp. the irony of the religious quips by Moni ("most high") and Kasper ("who raises his hand against me"). BTW, I have a sneaking suspicion that Kleavon will end up innocent in his sister's disappearance and maybe the other killings he's suspected of, as well.

It was alright. A lot of it didn't seem too believable, and the acting of corrine and becca wasn't perfect, but hopefully they'll remedy that next week. B-

I'm not going to go into a total breakdown, I agree with most of the points already made.
I think I freaked my wife out when I actually yelled at the screen when Corinne broke down and told him about the bag o'money. She was at the computer when I yelled...she probably thought I was a bit crazy. I was torn cause I knew Corinne would be a weak link but for a moment toward the beginning I thought she was going to pull it out. I don't get why Vic didn't try and end the interview when it went on for a while, I agree that it seemed like she was in there for hours.
I think it would be cool that when Vic and the team is backed up against the wall that they find out about Aceveda having that guy killed in jail and why it happened. So then they could pressure Aceveda into helping them! That would rock!

So then they could pressure Aceveda into helping them! That would rock! Good call, Zakkwylde. I think an Aceveda-Strike Team alliance is a very real possibility. Maybe that scowl Aceveda gave Vic after leaving "Kavenaugh's office" was more because he was pissed at Kav than anything else.

Acevada's likely to lie to Lem about how serious the charges are to get a flip going. Kav and Ass want the same thing: Vic behind bars on Terry. I think Acevada remembers that. Getting Kavanaugh what he wants is the quickest way to do things.

Getting Kavanaugh what he wants is the quickest way to do things. I think at this point Aceveda doesnt care anymore. I'm not even positive whether or not in retrospect, he even kinda gets where vic was comin from killing Terry. Remember, he had a guy killed for trying to ruining his career too. The episode itself was a B-. Corrine looked like that girl from THE RING when she looked at Danny. Her cracking in front of Tom wasnt that believable. The way Tom is approaching his payback is a little obvious in my opinion. Putting up terrys photo and harassing danny about the thing she had with vic is cheap. You can do better Tommy. What I really liked on this episode was Chiklis' acting. He got the point across, that hes kinda trippin right now. Outstanding extra in this ep was the woman playing fatima. And a big shout out to ma man eminem, for mizzlin his guest appizzlin .... WOR'

You're right luv, except for a couple minor points. Don't hate me for correcting them.... Who's Tom? I think you mean Jon Kavanaugh. Kasper was played by Joe Scudda, not Eminem.... You're right about that look she gave Danny -- Corrine looked awful; which is good for her part I guess. I found the weakness of all the women a bit off-putting. Corrine blabbed about the money - Danny fessed up to her thing with Vic - Tina is a bumbling idiot - and Claudette is physically weak. What other women did we have in this ep? Fatima? She showed some courage, but where did it get her? Man, do The Shield writers really think women are this pitiful? f*ck.

I wish the writers would have given the decoy squad a recurring role, maybe not in every show, but I liked them. I don't remember the lady's name on the decoy squad, but there didn't seem to be anything weak or pitiful about her.

You're right luv, except for a couple minor points. Don't hate me for correcting them.... naa, I'm a big boy, I can take it. damn, they got me. There was some guy on Letterman called Tom Cavanagh and I knew at some point I will screw the names up. I was kidding about eminem, its just that kasper reminded me of Mr. Mathers who I find to be a little exhausting to endure too. maybe even a little to much ... that was more I'll-cut-you-psycho as opposed to the appropriate I'm-ticked-off-angry. I actually didnt found it to be that bad. I would have never described this episode as one where women came acroos particulary weak or easy. I gotta back up the guys here ... if it really seemed to you this way, it probably wasnt intended and maybeeee not even the case

Corinne didn't cave out of weakness, IMO. Kav did find the right buttons to push, but he actually appealed to her sense of personal dignity...he fired her up about how Vic was using her like any number of other people in his usual games. He also threw in Danny and Vic's cheating - why shouldn't Corinne have been pissed (BTW I just realized that Vic & Shane used the same strategy to flip Kasper's g/f!).
Danny didn't come across as a weak woman either, IMO. She had already suffered a demotion due to Vic's adventures (the killing of Armadillo), and here was a threat that the same thing could happen...this time with her trying to support a baby on her own. And, again, Kav started out with an appeal to her sense of worth...showing the her the pool chart about "Who's the daddy?" and wondering if she didn't find that demeaning.
Anyway, the women didn't come off as weak, any more than Lem came off as weak for wearing the wire. Sure, Shane said, "Blow me" to Kav, but Shane's just hotheaded and reckless (even Vic didn't want him talking to Kav w/o the lawyer present). Is stupid the same as strong?
TS shows just about everybody under duress and having to cope. I don't think the women come off any worse than the men. In fact, who wouldn't agree that Danny was a much better TO than Julien?

Alright, alright... Uncle. I was only talking about the way the women were written in this one ep. I mean, all the characters have their weaknesses, it just seems that the female characters' weaknesses / vulnerabilities were on display in Rap Payback. And what the freak does Rap Payback mean anyway??

what is Rap?

Post by axeman61 on Feb 21, 2006 4:03:05 GMT -5
Possible meanings: Women are degraded in rap a lot. They don't do much damage. Here, they're doing a LOT of damage, whether they want to (Kas's girl) or not (Danny). Kasper's storyline. He got some of his friends smoked to build street cred. Street cred is important in gangsta rap. The problem is, if you're a poser, then people turn on you. By debunking Kasper's street cred, the team shut him down in more ways than one. He got some blacks smoked for that P.O.S cause? That dude better find a lamp and make a wish, because jails have lots of blacks.

Had another idea in mind, Because Kavanaugh is black, and so is most Rap artists are black, its his payback ?;p

Hmmm. I think "Rap Payback" has something to do with Kasper ... maybe Moni was his payback? I don't know.
