I just rented the S2 DVD 1 with eps 1-4 on it last night. I wanted a refresher. I was completely surprised...It seemed so much more intense back then than it is now. I watched Eps 1-3, and you have to love the boarder crossing, the armadillo burning etc. Oh, and I think that one scene where Dutch goes to get a statement from that couple at the apartment, and where that one guy (joe?) goes to grab his coat and looks in the bathroom at Kayla with missing arm and blood all over was the most grotesque and scarey second of the shield ever.

Yea it is definetly more intense the 1st time you see it because it is the 1st time you see it and you dont know what is going to happen.
The guy who Dutch intverviews name is Bob not Joe, and his wife Marcy.

thats right, his name was Bob. And I mean it wasnt as intense, but it still was very intense. I think those first 3 eps are more intense than any part of the shield I have seen through the first half of S5.

I think 5&6 are more intense then the 1st 3 because that was when Armadillo threaten to narc out Vic for burning his face up before Lem and Shane had him killed. The 1st 3 were setting up the story and then the 4th episode Carte Blanche was a breather from the whole Armadillo Story then ep 5 it was back on again.

misstriketeam, I believe Marcy figured out exactly what Dutch was doing to her in the interrogation room much earlier in that episode (Dutch to Claudette immediately afterwards: "I played the daddy. I broke her.")
Season 2 is remarkably intense, but for The Shield to continue for an entire seven-season arc, things had to settle down. As Michael Chiklis told an interviewer when Season 3 was starting up on TV, "I think we've actually settled down a bit." And I'm glad. I love Season 2 for its intensity but Season 3 I consider even better because the writers really stretched the ensemble and told a beautiful, complicated storyline from 3x01 to 3x15.
Argh, I can't wait for Season 7!
