I just wanted to get some feedback from dedicated fans.
Was it just me, or did Forrest Whitaker's whole performance seem "over the top?"....
He's a great actor, and, I'm a fan, but, I just cringe every time I put in a season 5 disk. I simply did not buy him by about halfway though the season.
I think it was that he, unlike Glenn Close, could not get free from a more "feature film" mentality. (I'm searching for definition)...
I guess my uesion is; Do you think Forrest lived up to the other actors/actresses that inhabit TS?

I loved Forrest. The Shield is very good at bringing in new talent to revitalize the show without supplanting the core characters. I actually felt that they did a better job with Forrest than with Close. Captain Rawling really saved the show for me. At the end of season 3 I was really concerned about the show jumping the shark but she brought in a new dynamic. But at the same time she overshadowed Vic and the Strike Team a little bit. With Kavanaugh, he brought a new dynamic but it really brought the Strike Team and all of its strengths and weakenesses to the forefront.
Kavanaugh's progression in Seasons 5 and 6 was fantastic. It was really great to see him become so obsessed that he became more and more like Vic. When he convinced Emolia to lie and justified it by saying "Its not a lie, its just somebody else's truth" I heard echoes from back in Season 1 when Vic said to Julian "It's not a lie, you made a mistake. We put boxes of ammo in that bag."
I am curious. What part of his performance did you find unconvincing?

Forrest's performance, in my opinion, was amazing. He made me cringe, but for the reason that he was over the top and in the strike teams face and as guy6324 said abouve he brought the strengths and weaknesses of the strike team to the forefront, really played on the vulnerability that he uncovered.
That was the role he needed to play.
