So there's the tense dialogue between Shane and Lem tonite. All the while I have this sinking feeling while watching, that Shane's gonna do "something" be it a hold-out piece that can't be pinned to him, or whatever.
So here's what went down in my place.
I'm watching, and my wife gets up and heads to the kitchen. Shane hands Lem the paper bag, and I frown, the hairs on the back of my neck going up. "WTF?!" I think. Shane walks away....."HOLY f*ck!!" I shout, drawing a "OMG what?!" from the wife in the kitchen.
Shane turns back, tips the grenade in, and I issue a "NO f*cking WAY!"...bringing my wife running in from the kitchen, upset that she missed it, coming back just as the car blows.
So how'd it go down in your house? Were you alone, scaring the neighbors? Did you wake the kids? Let's here it!

I was in the Rap chatroom. Only the 2nd or 3rd time I've been there and first time ever while an ep was actually on the air. It was pretty funny (but not funny, of course). Some peeps said they felt sick, some hated Shane, some Vic. Mostly, it was sadness. The reaction was pretty much the same leading up to the actual event as what you described, xan. Peeps were starting to feel what was coming, saying "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", etc.

I thought Shanes car blew up for a minute. Then I realized what happened. My mouth dropped. I watched it play out in awe as Lem gasped, "Shane..." and then Shane wailed how sorry he was. The commercial came on and I just dropped my head like oh, f*ck...WOW...

The girl who relishes true crime...yet when I saw Lem's eyes flicker open, I nearly vomited. I was horrified beyond comprehension even though I could feel it coming. Then I cried. And cried. And I am still crying. My cats just stared at me. See, as gruff as I come off sometimes... I'm really just a sentimental sap.
I had really grown fond of Lem--ever since he snapped and burned the money. That's when I could see how much he loved those guys, his "family" He was the heart and the conscience of the Strike Team. I am ready for the rest of them to go down now--I don't care what happens as long as they all go down.
I am not mad at Shane. I am not even mad at Vic right now. You know with whom I am pissed?? Glen Mazzara and Shawn Ryan!!! You just had to make it about as gruesome as possible and torture Lem to the very end, didn't you!!! Poor sweet Lem... as their creation, goddamn it, he deserved a lot better. At least his agony is over... but damn it, GLEN & SHAWN, this was awful for us!!
Bye, Sweetie...

My heart is still beating> i dont think I'll sleep tonight. I am in shock and my adernaline is working overtime.
I do have to agree with Senior Queen Bitch. it was wrong to kill off Lem as he was the heart of the team and he did deserve better. But this one why this show is very good and highly addicting. I have never been addicted to a series like this. I guess no matter how grusome and torturous it is. It is defined as great TV.

I was sitting on my couch drinking a full powerade during that scene, when Shane mentioned something about food I thought to myself "He probably set Lem up and now patrol cars will show up" Well..... When he dropped that damn grenade into the car I thought it was some kind of evidence at first and then when the car exploded, I dropped my full powerade and my mouth dropped open too.

Initially, I thought Ronnie was up to something, when he told Shane "Vic said to meet..." when we didn't see Vic say anything.
My sinking suspicion got worse when it was just Shane and Lem there. "So it came down to this?" and I knew it was going to happen. As soon as Shane offered him the sandwhich, that sealed the deal for me. He was going to 'nade him, making it look like another one of the car bombings.
Then Lem looked so damn happy to see that sandwhich...

when Lem and shane arrived at their final destination, and started talking I was at first thinking it wouldnt be long until the rest of the guys showed up, but then the time started passing and I besically sat in my chair going....no f@#$ing way....shanes going to kill him....and then you sit in the chair wishing you could reach into the TV and slap shane silly....I knew when he was getting the sandwich it was not going to be pretty, but when he threw the grenade, that was a little shocking.
I thought he was going to shoot him....and then when Lems eyes opened, that was pretty damn heart sinking.
I still think Vic should have killed Kav right there with his bare hands. that crap when Kav goes to lems house and shakes his hand trying to make some kind of peice with him...and then puts those wheels in motion with Antwan knowing it could end really bad for Lem...that guys just as responsible...and hes a complete snake. For him to even suggest that this was completely on Vic when he played a part in it as well...I was hoping Vic would have pulled his heart out right in front of everyone.

I was sitting in my chair, heart thumping, and getting choked up through the whole seen with Shane and Lem. I was waiting for Shane to pull out a gun, wasn't expecting the grenade. My heart just dropped and I kept saying OMG. Then I remembered the conversation between Shane and Mara when he told her he wouldn't let nothing ever hurt their family. I thought the ending was a clever twist. I felt so sorry for everybody, even Shane, that SOB. Seeing Lem after the grenade went off was heartbreaking. When it went to the commercial, I just held my head in my hands. I thought the fight at the end was a little lame. I would've liked to seen Kav on the ground, bloody and crying in pain and Vic standing over him giving him one of those stares he does so well. I wish it didn't have to end, I'm bummin.

A good, but flawed man.
A cop till the end.
Always looking out for the family. And it cost him his life.
An eye for an eye, and a cop for a cop. It has all come full circle.
I hate Shane's guts. All I could say was "No, no, no. Not Lem. Don't kill him. Please."
That man was willing to go tto jail for ten years just to protect the other three guys.
Shane should burn in hell.
Vic should get what's coming to him.
And..........I can't WAIT until next year.

I know that I am in the minority here, but overall I was fairly disappointed in the finale. It was very predictable for me. I knew that Shane was going to kill Lem because they basically set the story line up when Shane was telling Vic that Terry had to be killed in order to protect the team. Then when Shane told Lem to drive to another location in case they were followed yet he did not call Vic to tell him to meet them there, that was another clue. Not to mention how nervous Shane was acting around Lem.
Another thing is that Shane basically had this whole thing planned out. He had already decided that if Lem even hesitated about going to Mexico, he was going to kill him. That is why he had the grenade and the sandwhich. Shane and his nasty wife had probably planned this together. By contributing 5 grand of their own money, Shane was just trying to make himself appear as if he was a loyal member of the team should he have to end up killing Lem.
Vic being the Papa---duh!! Certainly not anything surprising here.
I did like the whole "Pimp-ology" thing. That was pretty funny.
I wanted to reach through the screen and slap Tina when she was screaming at the site of Lem's death. I was hoping that Shane had another grenade on him to shut her up for good.
I also was not very impressed with the reaction of everyone from the barn when they were at the site of Lem's dead body. I didn't feel that the acting was great here. This should have been an extremely emotional moment for everyone from the barn but it wasn't. The one person who should have been the least emotional was the most. (That stupid little twit Tina) This should have been a scene that would bring viewers to tears but it wasn't at all. Yeah, Vic got mad and got into a scuffle with Kav but that was coming eventually anyway. I wasn't overly impressed with Vic's reaction to Lem's death either. Lem was one of my favorites on the show but to be honest, I was not as upset by his death as I should have been. I will say that the saddest part was how grateful Lem was for that sandwhich, not knowing that it was just a ploy for Shane to kill him. That was probably the most emotional part of the show.
But overall, I was fairly bored and disappointed with the finale. I guess I was expecting to be "shocked", which I wasn't.

whats even more messed up is its shanes fault Lem was even in that postion in the first place. If it werent for the Dead little girl and Lem putting his ass on the line for Shane to retrieve the body, he wouldnt have gotten caught for the Haroin, and this whole IAD thing wouldnt have materialized.
So basically the whole scenario was put in place because of Shane crap from last season....and then he murders Lem to save his ass again.
And lem was going to throw away his career, pension, credibility, to go to jail and protect the team. insanely Sad...but I have no doubt Vic is going to kill him in the end....I just hope he takes Kav out while hes at it.

Ahhh, the after the fact Critic...hah hah hah...
Just becuase Shane didnt call Vic during screen time didnt automatically mean he didnt call him during transit off camera....it was getting really obvious when they were sitting there talking that you saw Shanes plans materialize, but I cant say I considered the forewarning or clues leading up to it as a bad thing.
that actually added to the tention instead of him just pulling a gun out of context and just shooting him.
Plus there is a big difference between Terry Crowly an outsider for the most part and Lem who is like a family memeber. To say you saw the writing on the wall just becuase Shane mentioned the Terry Scenario is reaching. He could have easily not have gone through with it in the end, or you would think they would have enough history togehter that he wouldnt have gone through with it..
Sure there were clues to something like this happening, but to be disapointed with it for those reasons is probably more to be the odd man out and gripe about it more then any real critisism.
I think having something materializing for pure shock value would have been lame myself.

I can see his point about Shane knowing what he would do, because that was the first time that he had mentioned Terry's death as being necessary to protect the team. The other time they talked about it, he was beyond distraught that Vic killed Terry.
But.........if Vic did know about Shane's plan, no matter how reasonable it may seem, Vic has to either die or get life in prison. One cop (Terry) was one thing, but now, a family member was killed, and the fans might not forgive that one.

Umm, Vic & Shane were talking about Lem possibly ratting them out and then the conversation turned to killing Terry to protect the team. I could see the wheels spinning in Shane's pea-brain during this scene. He was clearly getting scared about Lem possibly giving them up. Shane is not the same guy he was before he met his nasty wife--- his loyalties to the team are shaky at best.
And.. yes I was disappointed. The acting at the scene of Lem's dead body was horrible and extremely unemotional. This scene was supposed to be the highlight of the finale; the entire barn gathered together to mourn the death of one of their own. Instead, the most emotional part of this scene was Vic & Kav scrapping on the ground which like I said, has been coming for quite a while and would have happened even if Lem hadn't of been killed.
Sorry, the acting just wasn't there during this scene. The Shield is my favorite show, probably of all time so I feel that I do have a right to be critical. I hated almost all of season 3 but I still watched faithfully and it doesn't mean that I am any less of a fan because I was disappointed in that season.
This season has been great, just like seasons 1, 2, and 4 were. I just didn't think that the finale lived up to my expectations.
