Welcome to the group. We hope you get a chance to respond to our "icebreaker" questions as a way of "getting your feet wet." 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" I did not have FX when the first season of The Shield aired, but I watched it on Fox On Demand and was hooked after the first episode.2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? I love the intensity of it.3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I have always been a HUGE fan but none of my friends watch it. When Shane killed Lem I got online b/c I had to see if other fans were as sick and devastated over it as I was. I'm not sure exactly what led me to this site; I think it was a link from another group.4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? In real life, they should stay within the bounds of the law. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Before The Shield, my favorite show ever was Homicide: Life on the Street. I love Clark Johnson.7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Yes.8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I never watched those other shows, but he is amazing as Vic Mackey. I think I would LMAO if I watched Daddio.9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? No. It would never be the same show. I don't think it's going to survive w/o Lem. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I think it's probably a small percentage that think they are above the law, but they are the only ones we hear about.11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? I believe in it, but it has its flaws.12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) It's the one I always use.

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" I catched in the middle of the first seasons, I was shocked.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? Because it is very unusual, the obvious things never happend, the good guy aren't always good and the same with the bad ones. Surprise, always, surprise. Besides, I love Walton Goggins.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I was in other group and when Chem "moved" here and announced the site, I was the first (I knew it today) to sign in.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? I think they have to go to the where nobody get hurt. But.... shit happens.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? With the proper advice before, shouldn't be differences.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Monk, Boston Legal and cold case
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Not really.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I only saw Chiklis before the Shield in a movie about the 3 stooges. He is great as Vic, I can't image other actor in this rol.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? No, because every action is around him, especially the stronger plot. There are subplots but they are not strong enough.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? A lot, I have no idea of a number, but probabli the percentage is too high.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? Sorry, I have no idea. From the distance look goog but I am sure that has problems
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? Do I need to answer this?

Hey, shieldfan, welcome again to the very first person to sign up at this site! I'm so glad to see you listened to my request and answered the icebreakers. That's why their called "icebreakers", so you can get over any nervousness about posting. Though you have no reason to be nervous, your answers are good and, like I told you, your English is fine!
I like Monk and Cold Case, too. Can you imagine Monk being the new Captain in the Barn? ... me neither, ha ha.

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" -My brother raved about it, so I gave it a shot and liked it.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? -Unfinished business keeps me coming back.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? -Another talk group I am on. Topics got kind of old.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? -Anything but torture and getting to suspect's family. The ends justify the means if the suspect is a child rapist/killer, rapist, one who preys on the elderly and sick, generally the sickest scumbags.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? -No further than it is right now. Whether you have TV or cable, it's up to parents to make sure kids don't watch the wrong stuff.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? -NYPD Blue. Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? -No.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? -Excellent.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? -No. Maybe Clive Owen or Jimmy Smits.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? -Mixed feelings. 100% of them think they are above the law. The whole brotherhood thing makes me feel like they will stick up for each other no matter what goes on. That's inexcusable.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? -Flawed.

I dont think I ever did this, but I guess now is as good a time as any.
1. How did you find out about "The Shield?"commercials for the pilot.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most?plain and simple-it is the shit.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join?google search, joined becuase the other one I used to go to shut down or something, I didnt even go on it that much.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? As long as the cops know the person is bad it doesnt matter as long as the person they are trying to get the info from doesnt end up dead.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? The way I see that whole thing is that if a kid is too young to see that kind of stuff , they are too young to be home by them self--so the parent should be able to control what they watch if they dont want them to see it.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?Law and Order, Reno 911.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?just having my hands behind my back in cuffs.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?no one could do it better.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left?Chiklis is The Shield
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?I think 99% of them think they are above the law. That doesnt mean they are taking money or killing people, more like speeding and running stop signs.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? As much as I dont like them- we need rules. Atleast here your not stoned to death or locked up without know why like some places.
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name -Just kind of popped in my head.

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?"
I saw it on a wached one episode. After that I saw previews to the next episode so I decided to watch it again and then I just kept watching it.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most?
Its unlike any show on TV. It's not near as far fetched as every other show I've ever watched. It mostly all seems very realistic to me and I love that.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join?
Uhh... I think I saw a link and I thought it was a cool site. I forget where I saw the link at.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means?
Depends what your dealing with. If its a child molestor then I just assume you get a hammer, pliers and a blow torch and do whatever you want. If its some guy that stole a bike then you can just slap him around a little bit.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?
As far as they want as long as it shows a truthful point of view to what the world is really like.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?
Nothing else. I hate CSI. sorry to anyone who likes it.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?
No besides a few people I no who have been to court and stuff like that. I've been cuffed and ran from cops but never had any real expierience.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?
He does a good job. I actualy cant think of anyone who could do it better.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left?
No, not unless they made some damn impressive storylines. (almost impossible)
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?
Cops break the rules all the time. More than anyone probly knows about. Its not a bad thing in some cases from my point of view. I live in the St. Louis area and a few months back there was video of 4 cops beating the shit out of a guy who ran from them and I think tried getting past a road block. They were really giving it to him. Punches and kicks to the head, nightsticks to the ribs and head, stomping on the ankles. I actually didnt have any simpathy for the guy because he could have hurt somone.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system?
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? )
I picked stovetop because I was thinking of when Vic pressed Armadillos face against the stovetop.

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" The ad campaign FX was running for the first season. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? I've been a great fan of author James Ellroy for several years -- who wrote the amazing "L.A. Quartet" books -- and there are a lot of similarities to Ellroy's L.A. and the city as it's portrayed on The Shield as well as the way cops act and the departmental politics etc. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? Found a link on THE SHIELD LEXICON. I joined because I found a bunch of folks from theshieldfans.com 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? Without even addressing the obvious morel issues surrounding this discussion, torture is a very ineffective means of procuring accurate information. On the show it always happens to "the bad guy" in real life that's not always the case. In the context of the show it's always justified, because that's the way it was written. When it happens in real life it's often times very tragic. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? 1)I wish The Shield was on HBO or Showtime, truth be told. Language and nudity don't bother me. 2)Broadcast TV is overly trite IMO which is one of the reasons I rarely eve watch it. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? The Wire 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? I know some ex-cons. Does that count? LMAO! 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I think Vic is a scary bastard who has the occasional moment of clarity where he does the right thing for the right reason. Chiklis does a great job -- if a bit over the top at times. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? 1) No. 2) My understanding is that the show's main focus is on Vic Mackey. It's possible that another cast member could carry the show (though very unlikely) but what would be the point? 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? 1) Cops are under paid and under appreciated. Having said that I think a lot of cops (though not all) are loudmouth assholes with massive chips on their shoulders. 2) No idea -- don't care to speculate. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? Yikes! There's a loaded question! I think it's a mess. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) Iceberg Slim was the pen name of writer Robert Beck. (Google it and see what you find) It's very tongue-in-cheek (my usage of the name). References to The Shield had been done to death -- particularly Strike Team members -- so I thought it would be cool (no pun intended) to go another route.

1. I found out about "THE SHIELD" through all of the promotional advertising.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most?
3. I found out about "TheShieldRap" because of .:E:.'s link to this site in her IMDb posts. I checked it out and found it to be interesting.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means?
5. I think cable/satellite networks should be able to push the envelope to the level of an R-Rating, or maybe occasionally to the equivalent of an NC-17 movie. Broadcast networks should have stricter standards because anyone with a TV and an antenna can receive them, whereas with cable/satellite you have to pay for so you should at least get your moneys worth.
6. I like Cold Case, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: New York, CSI: Miami, Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, NYPD Blue, New York Undercover, Pacific Blue, "THE SHIELD", and Third-Watch
7. I was cited with furnishing intoxicating liquor to a minor exactly one month after my 21ST Birthday. There have also been way too many trips to court to contest/dispute/mitigate moving violations.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?
9. I seriously doubt it. Prior to Season 5; I probably would have said Kenny Johnson, but we all know thats not likely to happen now.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?
11. It has its flaws, but then again nothing is perfect.
12. It was as a result of an junior year nickname. The movie Friday came out that spring and I was kind of like a white version of Smokey. I wasn't a POTHEAD, I just really loved MARY-JANE.

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" A co-worker mentioned it to me. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? these guys are out there doing shit and getting away with it. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? A link from IMDB.com 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? as far as we need to. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? yes, you pay for what you get, free tv, no tittie. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? none 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? yes 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I only know of him as Vic Mackey 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? well, its not Lem. (sorry bad joke) I think they would have a hard time with it, it wouldnt take much longer after getting rid of him that the show would leave. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? the ones that think they are above the law are the rookies. they get badge heavy and like to push their weight around, It takes usually one good ass kicking to bring them down to where they need to be. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? not as tough as they should be. ( I am refering to the courts) we are out there busting our asses to get some cho-mo and he gets 6 months in county. 6 DUI's get you 1 year, your first DUI gets you a fine, ect... 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) Scott E Smith= sesmith 0116, my badge number,

1. From a friend at work. She talked about it all the time so I checked it out and fell in love with it. It became my favorite show then I got my husband hooked too! 2. I love the characters (especially Vic). I love the shooting style. The handheld format is outstanding and gives you the real life feel. 3. I am a member of Shield Forum and saw it there so decided to check it out. It appears that there are more in depth conversations here so that is why I decided to join. I'm still a member of Shield Forum though since I was an original member and know the folks there for the most part. 4. I think they should be able to have some lead way. Face it, most of the time they are dealing with the slugs of the earth so really don't deserve any rights. However, there is a fine line that they shouldn't cross and that line is determined by the situtation. As far as the extent to justify the means... I'd say just about anything shy of killing someone. 5. Honestly, I don't like the censorship of TV. I believe that they should be allowed to show what they want. If a person doesn't want to watch it, they can choose not too. People are so worried about the kids watching this stuff, but with technology the way it is, you can lock them out of any show. But face it, if they want to watch it, they'll find a way. 6. We watch NCIS and Las Vegas. 7. Yes, I work with lawyers so I deal with it all the time. 8. I LOVE MIKE AS VIC!!! Honestly, I didn't much know who he was until The Shield, but once I discovered him there, I watched some of his other stuff and I will say that Vic Mackey fits him the best. That's ironic because to see him in interviews, he really is nothing like Vic. HE IS VIC MACKEY and no one could portray him like Mike. 9. No. This is not to say that one person makes or breaks a show, but now with Lem gone, there are no other characters that could carry the show. Face it, The Shield for the most part is Vic Mackey. When people talk about The Shield, it is Vic that is the center of that conversation. 10. No, I do not think that the majority of them think they are above the law. Yes, there are some out there, but for the most part, I think they follow the book or only bend the rules a bit to get to the truth. There are some that abuse the power and it those that make it difficult for the rest. Then again, if we didn't have criminals that were so bad to turn those good cops into bad cops, then we would have those bad cops at all. 11. It stinks! The fact that taxpayers flip the bill for those in prison is outrageous! We have innocent, ordinary people living on the streets with no homes, no jobs, no food or education. Look at our prisons... roof over their head, 3 meals a day, jobs which they get paid for (even if it's very little) and for some even an education. Now tell me, is this right? Plus, I hate the fact that people who kill another and willing admit to it are put either or death row and sit there forever or are given life and sit there forever and we pay for it. If they are 110% guilty and sitting on death row, just end it. If they have life in prison, they're family needs to pay the costs, not us! So as you can see, I feel very strongly about how poor our justice system is. Plus, so many innocent people go to jail and then years later are found to truly be innocent and then the system just wants to say "sorry", that just doesn't fly. 12. I love Vic Mackey so what a better name then The Mack!

Greetings from sunny Florida,
I'm new to the shield rap-and I'm having some computer problems, (keeps freezing up) so I'll make this short in sweet like me.LOL I've been a fan of the shield since day one. My fav is Lem, but I like all the strike team guys as well. My hubby is a retired cop, so we watch alot of cop shows like Law and Order, CSI and Cold Case (loved Kenny in ep of CC). I found this site while cruising the net, kinda by accident. I belong to a few other message boards and I enjoy chatting with other shield fans. Looking forward to spending time with the shield ra #policecool# p gang.

Welcome to the group. We hope you get a chance to respond to our questions as a way of getting your feet wet. 1. How did you find out about The Shield Room mate and co-worker got me hooked during the season 4 recaps just before season 5 started. Been hooked ever since and have now seen every episode and deleted scene.2. Why do you watch The Shield& ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? The raw action and superb acting combined with great writing. This show draws it's audience in like no other. Plus it's just bad ass.3. How did you find out about TheShieldRap and what made you decide to join? Got an email from The Shield Talk yahoo group.4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? Throw out political correctness. Cops should be able to lie and intimidate (not extorting suspects or retalliation threats) as they have to to save lives. Criminals push, cops push back harder. Too much red tape.5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? As far as they want to and the free market place will allow. Don't like what's on or don't want your kids watching something, turn the channel or use parental lock. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Just starting to get into the CSI Shows. Was a big fan of Miami Vice and the Fall Guy in the 80's.7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Adult Probation Officer8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? Love this character9. Could The Shield survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? Ummm......no10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? No law enforcement agency is perfect and will have it's bad apples. Problems is that the officers that are really good and go the extra mile rarely get a shred of commendation.11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? Not perfect but fair, meaning there is a way to change things that need changing.12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) Was the first thing I thought of that was cool enough.

Thanks for the welcome. Can't remember the last time I was posting on a message board.
So true about the TV content of today. I don't like American Idol and won't listen to rap music on the radio. It's simple, don't turn to a particular station if they are airing something you won't like or think you'll be offended by. In one of the DVD seasons, I remember Chiklis saying he and his wife didn't let his daughter watch the show except for the parts she was in. WHAT A CONCEPT. Welcome to capitalism at it's finest.

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?"
Me and a friend saw an advertisement for the 1st episode of the show. It looked good so we checked it out...I've been hooked ever since.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most?
Initially, I was drawn in by the shock value of the show. Me and the friend mentioned above (who is now my brother-in-law) watched the first episode and we were pretty hooked right from the start. When Vic shot Terry, we knew that this was a show unlike any other that we had ever seen. Neither of us have ever missed an episode...there isn't (nor has ever been) another show that either one of us could say that about.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join?
I was a member at Shieldfans.com and had been looking for a new board dedicated to this show. I saw a posting on the TV.com forums about TheShieldRap so I checked it out...
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means?
In reality, I'm not a supporter at all of the types of tactics commonly employed by the Strike Team, but it makes for good entertainment...I strongly believe in the laws protecting our people from improper searches and such.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?
I think that cable TV should be able to go as far as they want. Broadcast TV should have standards that are a little more strict, but nowhere near as strict as they currently are.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?
None.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?
Very limited. I'm not going to go into the full details, but my daughter was molested at a young age by her mother's ex-boyfriend. The criminal justice system completely dropped the ball and the scumbag got off. I heard a couple of years later that he had overdosed on drugs and died, so the karma boomerang of life got him in the end, but I was still very angry with the failure of our system in this case.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?
This role was made for him.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left?
I doubt it. The only way would be to focus the show away from the Strike Team and onto Dutch and Claudette more (not so much now that she is captain though).
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?
In my opinion, most cops feel that they are above the law. I'm not saying that most of them therefore abuse the laws, just that they do feel that they are above the law in general. I do support our law enforcement officers in general, but strongly disagree with some of the laws on the books and some of the tactics commonly used to enforce those laws.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system?
In a nutshell, it is a joke. When you have more Americans in prison than any other industrialized nation, there is a problem. This is supposed to be the land of the free. The failed war on drugs has really had a negative effect on this nation.
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? )
I use this name on most forums that I post on. I'm a huge hockey fan, particularly a Detroit Red Wings fan. Vladimir Konstantinov was my favorite player before his tragic injury in a limo accident. Vladinator was one of his many nicknames, so I adopted that as a user name for most forums...
