Should have done this before my first post, but well, here we go... 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?""The Shield" didn't cause much buzz when it hit German TV screens - they didn't try to hype it like they normally do with each and every US show they buy. So I wasn't really aware of TS in the beginning. Then, I read a review in one of Germany's most conservative (!!!) TV magazines, praising the "bravery", "depth", "quality" and "realism" of the show. I found that contradiction (conservative magazine praising raunchy show) intriguing, so I checked it out. My first episode wasn't "Pilot", but "Blowback" (which is one of the best eps to start with aside from "Pilot" IMO). I was utterly hooked right from the start. Love at first sight. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most?"The Shield" changed my take on TV drama completely. I don't adore it just for its shock value. Its sheer quality on all levels keeps me hooked. I always tell people who don't know the show that if they're fed up with grinning supermodels and pointless stories and cardboard cutout characters, if they're looking for drama with some serious edge and depth, and don't think "Sonny Crockett" when they hear "cop", there's only one show to watch. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join?A post (I think it was by jwc) on the IMDB Shield board pointed the way here, exactly the same day when I found out that TSF was dead. So, I was a homeless TSF survivor who was in search of shelter. And I must say TSR feels like home now, even if I don't post all that often. 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means?I thought a lot about this answer, and to avoid writing a novel, I'll try to keep it short: I'm pulling a Lem on that. ;-) If there's a point to bending the rules and crossing a line, if "there's good in it", like Lem once said, I think cops should be given some "breathing room". Things like a cop using force on an uncooperative suspect he *knows* to be hiding something important (which could help save a life, for example). But there certainly is a line that shouldn't be crossed. I just hope I'll never have to experience either side of an interrogation room table. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?I don't think that there shouldn't be any boundaries to how far TV can go, but as a TV and movie enthusiast, I don't want to be shut out from what the creative minds behind a TV show/movie wanted it to be. I want to be able to watch it "as is", not a badly "cleaned" edit, and make up my own mind. And if there's a show pushing the edges - where would TV entertainment be without them? In the end, all censorship efforts come down to one thing: protecting kids from watching certain stuff - which I absolutely agree on. But this is something for parents to take care of, not for overprotecting network employees crippling creative content. A friend of mine who just saw "The Shield" for the first time said "I wouldn't want my son to watch this!" All that I could say was: "Well, don't let him." I know it's not all that easy to keep kids from watching stuff they shouldn't, but it's not like it's an impossibility. An important factor: time of day. "The Shield" isn't quite suitable for a Sunday morning audience... TS aired in Germany Wednesday night on 11:15 pm - bad for the ratings, but the only way to present the episodes uncensored. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?As a kid, I loved "Hill Street Blues" because it was a lot different from other cop shows. I watched a lot of "NYPD Blue". And I really like "Homicide", another show German TV didn't care about at all (thanks to region-free DVD players and DVD imports, that's not a problem any more). All in all, a pretty good base for becoming a devoted Shield fan. 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?Nope, neither with the German, nor with the US system. I don't feel bad about it. 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?I couldn't get my jaw off the floor when I first saw Chiklis as Vic Mackey. "The Commish" aired some time ago n in Germany, and I knew Chiklis' looks before his makeover. Absolutely astonishing. As for his portrayal, I can't say how much I adore his work on "The Shield". He redefined the meaning of "intensity". The best performance on TV ever so far. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left?If Chiklis left the show, it would be over. Period. As much as I adore the work of all the other actors (especially Goggins, Martinez, Pounder and Karnes are absolutely brilliant) - it caused me bitter pain to watch the X-Files wither and die when David Duchovny turned his back on it, and I sure as hell wouldn't want to see something like this happen to "The Shield". 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?I read a lot about the "real" LAPD Rampart scandal, and about police corruption in general. But I don't see each and every cop as a potential threat to my personal freedom. I live in a quite peaceful town in Germany - I can only imagine what it's like to live in a run-down part of L.A., and what it's like to be a cop there... I think there are a lot of cops out there who *feel* they're above the law, but only a few of them actually cross the line. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? As a German, I don't feel like I should make a call here. It is quite different from our system, so let's just say that it obviously has its flaws, like any other (including ours). 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) My screen name is my real first name. I don't know, I'm not that much into that nickname thing... if I ever find an explanation for that, I'll let you know.

1. How did I find out about The Shield? As it was advertised on cable when it began...and I immediately discounted it because I believe that oftentimes the cops are the bad guys, and L&O doesn't exactly demonstrate this...I was like, "No way! I'm supposed to root for the guys who would kick my ass??" Shows what I knew then... 2. What I like about the show is continued from question #1: When the show won awards, my husband said "It won a Golden Globe, dammit, we're checking it out for 5 minutes." I finished watching that episode standing up. It's how I watch every episode. I am drawn to the excellence in writing, the acting, the cinematography, all of it. 3. I found this site by roaming around the internet. Looking for a Shield fix. 4. How far? Well, let's establish this: The truth is relative, goddammit. Directly proportional to where you stand as you look at it. How is that for cryptic and evasive? 5. I think standards across the boards need to lighten up, loosen up, and stop treating people like children. On the other hand, the people who cannot handle adult situations and language are exactly the people who need to go to a church meeting and stay there. 6. Law and Order, because I can't seem to help it. 7. Any experiences I've had with the criminal justice system have been due to traffic stops and second and/or third hand experiences of the people close to me. 8. I did not catch The Commish, so The Shield was my first knowledge of Chiklis. Brilliant performance, quite curious to hear what the man has to say about the character after it is all said and done (he said he'd give us an earful). i can't say exactly where I read that. 9. Unfortunately I think the show would wither without Chicky. Right or wrong. The entire cast contribute in ways that none could be replaced. 10. I am scared half to death by the possibility of police corruption ever touching my life. I think that eventually, even the most well intentioned cop, high on his ideals, may lose sight of where Right and Wrong fall, i.e, it isn't guy #1 or #2, but #3, and he isn't even present in the lineup. You haven't even heard his name yet, but #'s 1 & 2 look so right, and fit so tight, why keep looking? There all guilty anyway. Is that vague enough for y'all? 11. The criminal justice system is an animal so huge I can barely fathom viewing it in a comprehensive glimpse. Sometimes mistakes are made, but not always. Sometimes the time assigned to individuals guilty is not in proportion to the crime they have committed, and that is a shame. 12. My screen name is my alter ego. Used to be Czarina, still is, I guess, but too many people on line using it...I am the only Tsarina, goddammit.

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?"
I remembered hearing a few things about the show and one cold, snowy day I decided to rent it. Six weeks later, I had watched four seasons.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most?
Well, Vic Mackey physically reminds me of someone I know who is now a Sheriff. I think that had something to do with how I got sucked in.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join?
I saw a link on shieldforum.com
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means?
Depends on the circumstances
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?
Broadcast should definetly have separate standards. I'm a bit surprised at what cable can get away with.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?
I like the Law and Order franchises, but I have no time to watch them.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?
Absolutely none.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?
I just watched the pilot of "the Commish." Michael Chiklis's eyes say everything. He's great.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left?
Maybe. . . Jay Carnes and Walton Goggins.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?
I think every cop thinks he (or she)'s above the law.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system?
It can be very easily manipulated
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? )
It's the last two letters on the license plate of my minivan--and I've been DYING for someone to ask.

Greetings,
1]I found out about The Shield while watching a program that I can't remember now. I saw the promos and was hooked. Kevin Mattews (a talk-show DJ in Chicago) also talked it up alot.
2]I would say that stories and the writing are what sraw me in and keep me watching.
3]I was in the FX chatroom and saw the addy for this place here. After a little looking around, I thought that this site is well put together and the people seem to be decent. So, why not?
4]This is a complicated question. I'm sure being a cop is quite the difficult job. Abuse of power being one of many challenges, but when it comes to child molesters and senseless killing of innocents, I feel there is no 'too far' to get to the truth.
5]I say cable TV is probably right where it should be at the moment. I think it has a more direct reflection of the attitude of society. Broadcast TV could do well to catch up, although seeing as the airwaves are free and cable is bought, broadcast TV would seem to have the burden of more responsible programming.
6]NYPD Blue, Third Watch, and The Job. That was the one with Denis Leary. Almost forgot, The Wire is great.
7]My experience in the system was relatively brief. Made my mistakes as a 'yoot' and learned from them. It's not something I brag about or bring up often. I feel those that do, probably haven't learned the full lesson yet.
8]Wasn't he also a coach or something (Daddio?)? Anyway, he's the perfect fit for this role.
9]No Michael, no Shield. Maybe Vin Diesel would be up to the challenge (just kidding!).
10]I was raised in Chicago and I've seen my fair share of crooked cops. I feel most cops go into it with the best intentions but, being the humans they are, some can't handle the responsibility and become bad. Further still, some get the 'omelette/broken egg' mentality and try to get things done only to fall. Tragic in it's own way, I would say a fairly small percentage are like that, maybe 12-15%.
11]My nutshell opinion of the system in America is...totally screwed up. With no easy answers and no easy way to change for the better, the system just trudges along. It would seem to me that the only good job to have when it comes to the system is to be a builder (of prisons).
12] I had a cat named Mojo. He was cool, but we had to give him up. When I got to a point to have a cat again, I did and named him Mojo II. He was waaaay cooler than the first and totally fell in love with that dude. He was the 'Mojoman Kitty'. We had to give him away also (7 years ago now) and I guess I'm still carrying that torch. I talk to my friend that has him from time to time and I hear he's doing well.

Welcome to the group. We hope you get a chance to respond to our "icebreaker" questions as a way of "getting your feet wet." 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" My Dad raved about it and said I should check it out. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? It is intense and there are no holds barred. I love watching Vic! 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I was looking for the Shield song for my cell phone ringtone. I stumbled onto the Shield Rap. 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? I think the strike team does a pretty good job and for the most part, I don't disagree with their choices and decisions. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I don't like the fact that my kids have access to this channel where they may catch a bad scene on the show, but parental controls are available and I kick them out of the room! lol At least it's on after they go to bed. I think the riskay content of the show is what draws people to it. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? I'd probably like a lot of them if I had the time to watch them, but I don't. 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? no experience, no convictions....I'm clean 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I didn't see Chicklis in those shows, but I loved him in The Fantastic 4 movie. Vic's the MAN! 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? If Chicklis left I'd cry and swear a lot....the show would suck 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I'd like to believe that the law is there to protect me always and I hope it to be true, but I think 75% of the cops have a superiority complex. I've seen cops do things that I would be pulled over for right in front of my eyes on the road and it really ticks me off!! 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? I think everyone is considered guilty until proven innocent and it's supposed to be the other way around. I think a lot of our fate is determined by who you know and who you bl.. in the justice system. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) I find myself saying that Vic's the man after every episode. He may not be the best looking dude, but his bad boy, warm heart attitude makes him very attractive to me. I mean check out his walk and his stares....damn!!!!

I find myself saying that Vic's the man after every episode. He may not be the best looking dude, but his bad boy, warm heart attitude makes him very attractive to me. Something about him just makes me crazy! His build - those baby blues - that head!! OK, I need a cold shower now.

1. I was flipping through channels and happened to come across the shield. I just started watching it this season.
2. Mostly the character interaction. Seeing what they will do and how far they will go.
3. The Yahoo group.
4. I think that cops should have some control. If its bad guys that they are dealing with then use force, but for civies they have to use some restraint.
5. Cable can go as far as they want, but broadcast needs restraints.
6. Law and Order
7. No
8. This is my first experience with Michael Chiklis's acting. But I think he plays a great character.
9. I think it would be a challenge to survive, but I think that walton Goggins does a great job also.
10. I think that police corruption will always be part of our society just because it is sometimes needed. Probably every cop thinks at some point that they are above the law.
11. Don't know, but sometimes I wonder.
12. It's a nickname of sorts lol!

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" Adverts for the show on UK channel 5 (beginning of season 1) 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? It pulls, it pushes, it jabs and it uppercuts - you never know where it is coming from next or going to later. Unpredictable, real? and emotive - you love then hate then love the characters again - all in the same episode! 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? from a yahoo group that was driving me nuts with bitching 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? too black/white and judgemental for me.... 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? Language *is* real life - TV without language sounds sooooo contrived! Imagine the language you hear on TV coming from a gandbanger in LA? NOOOO WAAAAAY! 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? just about all of them 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? only VERY peripherally 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? GREAT. The love him/hate him good/bad is awesome! 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? 'could', yes, possibly - with the quality of writing on this show it could start with a whole new strike team if it had to. Who? David Caruso. NOOOOO! Only kidding!!!! 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? Law enforcement is asking the impossible of the too few. If cops are part of the population, about 5% think they are above he law - equal to us all I think... 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? All I know is what I read in books and see on TV - I am in the UK.... 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) Made it up. Not significant - but unique!

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" I am a first season spectator and I have been non-stop ever since. Basically, I work in the Barn, but they keep me hidden so I won't steal the show, lol!
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? It would have to be my love for crime shows and forensics, a great assembly of cast members, and that bald thrillseeker dude who always manages to keep me on the edge of my seat.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? A friend who I introduced to The Shield, instantly got hooked on the show, found the site and recommended it to me- another junkie....so sad.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? There should be different standards for different crimes. They don't justify.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I think you have to have some guidelines no matter what. I'm one who feels that you can get a valid point across without derogatory and abusive language so I'm not impressed by the ignorance of speech. Nudity(natural thing). Sexual content-should always be specified.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Law & Order SVU, NYPD Blue,The District, CSI(all) to name a few.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Majored in Criminal Justice and..................have friends on both sides of the bars
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? The baddest/coolest dude to play the role. He does things that I should despise him for, but instead, I can't get enough of him. WTF?
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? NONKA, NOWAY, NOHOW, NOCHANCE!ANTWON/LEMONHEAD
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? DOESN'T PAY ENOUGH, TOO MUCH INDISCRETION FOR THE OFFICER, BRUTALITY IS REAL AND AT LEAST 30% THINK THEY ARE ABOVE & BEYOND.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? EVERYONE IS NOT REPRESENTED AND TREATED FAIRLY BUT IT HAS MORE PROS THAN CONS
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name? MY SCREEN NAME IS MY NICK NAME(BASED ON MY LOVE OF ORANGE THINGS THAT HAVE CAPTIVATED ME MY ENTIRE LIFE)

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" Friend had Season 1, and let me borrow it. Was hooked from the second I started watching.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? Just to see what would happen to the criminals out there if there were some cops willing to cross the line to get to them. It is a television show after all.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? Was on Yahoo Groups.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? Justice must be served, victims must not perish, and the law must be upheld. Simple as that.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I am tired of Television telling us what "reality" looks like. No one sleeps with a robe at the end of there bed, No one takes a towel into the shower with them, and no one has sex under five layers of covers. We pay for reality on cable and thats what I expect. If you have antennae then you will get what you pay for.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Law and Order
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Yes
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? Chiklis is the only man for the job.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? Walton Goggins. If it ever happened.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I think that the media will publish any story about an "poor pitiful" thug that was fighting the cops and got a knot on his head. They don't however publish any stories of the thousands of incidents each year where it is the single solitary cop responding to a call that is injured trying to carry out his duty.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? Best show on Earth.
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick Name and badge. All you need.

1. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I think that the media will publish any story about an "poor pitiful" thug that was fighting the cops and got a knot on his head. They don't however publish any stories of the thousands of incidents each year where it is the single solitary cop responding to a call that is injured trying to carry out his duty. . It dawned on me last Tuesday for the first time in the five years I've been watching The Shield (yeah, I'm kind of slow sometimes!!)... a commercial about parental controls on cable programming has always appeared right before each ep airs. Duh! The cable company goes out of its way to tell parents how to screen programs for their kids. I guess I don't pay attention because I don't have kids and I'm too busy running around turning off all of the lights, putting the answering machine on mute, grabbing my vcr remote and popcorn, etc! In any case, enough said! Parent, you have control over what your brat watches... now use it and have a fresh steaming cup of Jantheman's shut-the-f*ck-up!

I joined last night after the finale. I guess I'll answer... 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" A friend at work lent me his tape of the pilot. I actually didn't get FX until the 2nd season though. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? I find the fact that I root for Vic even though he's obviously evil refreshingly different. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I used to lurk at the shieldfans forum. I joined here because of the season 5 finale. 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? As far as they need to without causing extensive bodily harm. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? As far as necessary to further the story... I'm not a fan of nudity just to be shocking. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Used to like NYPD Blue. 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Does jury duty count? 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I think he's great. But I never saw any of his other shows. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? Probably not, I could see them putting this on Shane but I doubt it would work out very well. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? 20%... I think it definitely depends on the location though (ie, more corruption in big cities) 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? It seems a little bloated to me. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) Heatseeking Dennis was Kenny Johnson's credited name for his part in Blade.

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" I stopped on FX one time while flipping through the channels during the second season. I had no idea what the show was about, but thought it was pretty interesting after watching about half of a show.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? I like the writing, and I think that some of the acting is very good. Both the acting and writing are above the standards that you normally see on TV.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I was searching for information about The Shield when I was in China, and a google search led me here.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? They have rules now, and they should follow the rules. I don't cry when they break those rules with a gang member. The problem isn't the cops, but the courts. Put the bad guys away for a long time, and you don't have to worry about them on the streets.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I am all for free speech and expression. No rules.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? CSI and Law and Order. They are both ok.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Not really. I started out as a criminal justice major, but changed after my junior year in college after a bunch of cops advised me against law enforcement as a career.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I didn't know Chiklis before the Shield. I was in college when the commish was on, so I didn't have much time for TV.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? Well, in China, The Shield would have trouble with Chiklis, because it is called "The Bald Policeman" there. The show could be good without him, because the writing and acting is excellent all around. If he did leave, and they kept the show going, I would hope that they would change the name. "The Shield" is about Vic Mackey. Taking him away would be like taking Sam Malone from Cheers.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? Most real cops think they are above the law. Probably a good 80% or better. Most don't press their luck however. It is mostly small time stuff. But it is obvious that the average cop doesn't see himself the same as the average person.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? It is a mess and pretty good at the same time. Having lived on three continents in my lifetime, I have seen other criminal justice systems and I like America's. It could be a lot better, but it is a tough balancing act between liberty and security.
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? Robomace was a nickname I had when I played college baseball.

Robomace, they really show The Shield in China? That blows my mind. Though I can see it from the propoganda angle of wanting to make the decadent Yankee Imperialist cops look as bad a possible. Your location is still listed as China. Are you there now? I think it's great that you have lived on 3 continents -- the perspective you obtained as a result is invaluable and will serve you for the rest of your life, IMO. I think everyone should try to spend some time living abroad, if possible. I lived overseas for a year and it was a tremendous experience.
About your google search, can you recall the specific search path you used? I was never able to get a hit to The Rap via google, but it's been a few months since I tried.
Welcome to the site...glad you joined us.

The Shield is on in China, and you can find all the DVD's there as well. The DVD's sell for next to nothing btw. I am in the States at this moment, because I just flew in before the season finale. However, I split my time between China and the USA. I also own two apartments there and only one house here in the states, and I will be going back there in about a month or two, so I feel that my location is China.
I am not sure what I put in for the google search. I don't keep my history for more than one day on my browser. I will go play with my searches again and see what I can find. I am also the type of person that will go many pages into the results of a search to find something, so it could be hidden deep in a search.
