Wow, Finngirl and E, thanks for sharing!! Listen, you are among friends (and fellow law-breakers) so if you can't share your criminal past with us, with whom can you share it??
I have one of my own. A DUI in Washington DC. Pulled over right in front (well, on the south side) of the Capital itself. I remember trying to find my nose with my finger and looking at that beautiful building just glowing... glad I got pulled over, though. I was driving a jeep full of women on a Saturday night. I might have killed all of us.
My other brush with the law was an assault charge. My drunk roommate got in my face and I punched her out. One year probation for that!
Now, I am a respectable FED (may I kiss your butt, E??) with a security clearance. Shows they'll hire anyone, eh?? heh heh CC

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" My Dad was watching it one time--it was the first or second episode of the first season. I remember being a little shocked about the material that was on T.V., but the storyline and intensity brought me back for more. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? I really think the character interaction and development is intriguing. I think all the actors within the Strike Team especially Vic and Shane have a good chemistry (well except for Tavon and Shane). I also love how there are multiple sub plots within each episode. But of course the main reason is Vic is so unique, i have to see the other episodes. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? Well I was on the FX board for the first time today, and noted the sorry state of the board (thats an understatement), and found the url for this forum 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? I really dont know how far they should go. I dont believe the end justifies the means in life, nor do I think what Mackey and the Strike Team do is right. Nevertheless, it is interesting and I am rooting for them. I mean, I would be pissed if I had evidence planted on me and I was innocent. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? Well, I think the Shield is one of the most graphic shows on TV. However, it doesnt really go overboard. Sometimes its uncomfortable to watch around the family--especially when they dont know whats going on and walk in the room. Like im talkin S3 espisode 5 when David gets forced to give oral at gun point. That was the only point in the Shield where I actually felt a little sick by the content. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? I love COPS, Forensic Files, Law and Order, CSI 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? No 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? Well I saw Chiklis in some cheesey movie--really cheesey. i dont remember the name but it took place in Holland, and there was a deaf girl and he was the bad guy. Bad performance on his part. However, I would be willing to say that Chiklis fills the roll of Vic better than anyone else could. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? No. The rest of the actors are excellent and do their roles right, but none of them are leaders. I mean I think Shane could do it, but then again i cant see him filling a lead role. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I'd like to think most of them are above unnecessary brutality. But I doubt most of them are above the law in all matters. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? I think it could get better, but its not bad. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? Vic is slick--thats all that needs to be said

Ice? Let's break it! 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" Always on the look out for new cop shows, this one looked like a contender for the best, and it delivered. Been hooked ever since.2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? Probably, the overall mindset of doing what has to be done, for the greater good. I do believe that in circumstances the ends do justify the means.3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? Coming across the remains of other Shield sites, all mentioned this site. I follow the trails of those before me.4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? Hmm... I think our boys in blue should do what is necessary to save lives. Perhaps not to the same leve as Vic, but I do believe there are too many restrictions tying the hands of officers 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? If it's in context, I really don't care what is aired. Shows that focus on the harder sides of life should be able to relay that. If you don't like what is being shown, change the channel. It's a big boy world people, we can get through it together.6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Needless to say, The Shield is my favorite, big fan of the Law and Order series as well. Too bad Cop Rock never took off... 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Got a traffic ticket once...am in schooling/ training in the criminal justice system, does that count? 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I don't think they could have picked anyone better9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? I imagine it could still survive if Chiklis left, but it wouldn't have the same feel to it. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? Law enforcement? Bunch of Nazis... anyway, from an inside-out perspective, it does exist. The majority of the officers you'll meet are just guys trying to do their jobs. However, like anything else, there are those bad apples in the bunch.11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? Thank God for that 'nutshell' part, this could go on for awhile. I think overall, it could be worse, but it could also be better. The correctional system needs to be a bit more open. Society doesn't want to hear about what goes on once the police pick a guy up, and thus the deterent is lost. Just one of many rants 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name Explained it in my intro, but i'll get it here too. Living my life for every moment, making decisions and dealing with the consequences later have left me with the nick name 'bad man' but hey, just another day...

Welcome to the group. We hope you get a chance to respond to our "icebreaker" questions as a way of "getting your feet wet."Hello, I am a new member. You never would have guessed from looking at my post count and join date, right? 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?"I love watching TV shows. Actually I'm a bit obsessive about watching TV shows. I refuse to watch any series unless I see every episode from the beginning, each episode in order. If I ever miss an episode, I will stop watching the series until I can get my hands on the episode I missed and catch up. Naturally, I like to get in on the ground floor with new shows, but I can settle for watching reruns or DVDs as long as they're in order. In the case of The Shield, I was here from the beginning. I was actually browsing the net and I found a review for a new show coming out called The Shield, and it caught my interest. The reviewer had a lot of positive things to say that I don't remember now. I watched the first episode when it aired, and I was hooked. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? It's all about the characters! Actually, I don't even like cop shows, but The Shield has managed to become one of my favorite series. It was the first cable series I saw, and the difference in quality from network shows blew me away. I really love every character on the show, I love to watch what choices they make and what happens to them. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join?Just ran a search for Shield related forums. I joined this one simply because it was the only Shield fan site I could find. I wanted to join a Shield message board to talk about the show. I have a hard time telling people what I really think in person, I am much more comfortable as an anonymous poster on a message board. On the Internet, I can say whatever I really think, and even if people hate me for it, it will have no effect on my daily life. I suppose I am a coward in that way, afraid that I might offend someone or make them think less of me. 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means?I do believe the ends justify the means. You just have to make sure you're looking at all the ends. A lot of it also comes down to intent. This is really one of the big themes of the series, so I'll talk about it more later on in another post. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?TV shows should be able to go as far as they want. With V-chips in every TV, parents can just block the mature-rated content, so I don't see the big deal. Now if you want to talk about which shows deserve which ratings, that's a whole 'nother can o' worms. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?None. There are a few courtroom-based movies I enjoy. 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?None. 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?Never saw either of those shows, but I did see him a few times before The Shield came out. I didn't actually know him as Michael Chiklis then, I just saw him in a few odd roles. He does a great job as Mackey. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? The Shield without Chiklis? It's hard to imagine! Especially since each season seems to be more and more "Vic-centric". If Chiklis wanted out they should just end the series. Actually, it could still be a good show with just the cast they have now minus Chiklis, but right now it's basically The Vic Mackey Show, I very much doubt it would continue without him. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?I really have no idea how much this kind of thing goes on. How much does the media exaggerate things? I don't know. Brutality I suspect is pretty common. Corruption...well, you'd have to decide how you want to define a corrupt cop. There are probably lots of 'minor' rules that no cops follow. If we're talking about Shield-level corruption, I'd guess there are only a very few cops in the country like that. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system?Frustrating. Most of the time it works, sometimes it doesn't, but it's the best we can do. I couldn't come up with a better one. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? )Pretty self-explanatory. Just a generic, boring username.

Welcome to the group. We hope you get a chance to respond to our "icebreaker" questions as a way of "getting your feet wet." 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" Saw the ads on FX, I was a semi-regular viewer of Howard Stern's Son of the Beach, which according to Stern himself was axed to make room for The Shield. I thought I'd give it a shot it looked different and it proved to be just that.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? Given the characters that the lead character has done in the past I wanted to see if he could pull off something different. I like the raw feel to the show.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I found out about this site from another Shield forum, I love the show and like to interact with others that do as well. The official site forum is just sooooo bad. I'm glad to see better ones are around.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? I think cops have always been allowed to step over the line or use deception to get what they want. I agree to a point but as long as it doesn't do any damage to an inocent bystander
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I think that is one of the things that I enjoy about The Shield because it does push the envelope of what you are used to seeing on TV. I do think that there should be different standards for broadcast TV due to it being out there for everyone, with cable you have a choice to see those things. While somethings are fine for me they aren't for everyone and especially for children to see.
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? I've been a follower of the Law and Order series for quite a while as well. I prefer the original and SUV over CI
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?
No real experience other than the system doing some strange things. We had an odd thing happen about two years ago where my wife was driving in a shopping center she slowed down for a gentleman to cross in front of her, another vehicle slowed down but the guy seemed to know the people in the second vehicle, the next thing my wife says she hears tires and the second vehicle strikes the man and throws him into our van damaging it. My wife didn't want to go and testify about what she saw, I convinced her to...that it was the right thing to do and the guy that struck the other man didn't get any charges filed against him and my van was still damaged.
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?
I never watched either of those shows but knew of him. Like I said that is what originally drew me to give the show a shot how he would portray a different style of character. I think he does an outstanding job at it.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left?
Wow...I think it could. After you get into the other characters there is enough depth there to carry on the show. As for who...that is a tough one. Don't know if I could pick one.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?
I think its out there. But I think like most things reported we only get the negitive and not enough of the positive things that are out there. As far as what percentage think they are above the law...that I feel is a low number somewhere between 5 and no more than 10 percent.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system?
While some think its flawed, and in some cases you can make that arguement quite a bit, it has also served us well for the majority of things that it deals with. I'm not saying its perfect though either.
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? )
My name is from an online game that I play. Its a fictional character that is in part based a little on myself and the rest is fictional for the entertainment part of the game. Sorry it doesn't have anything to do with The Shield. And for those of you that know that style of music, when I came up with the name I totally forgot that was the name of a guitar player that was in Ozzy Osbourne's band, at the time I came up with the name the real Zakk Wylde had left Ozzy and was doing his own thing so while the name sounded familiar it never struck me as to where I had heard it. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I think hbo style is what I would really like. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Not many others lately.. 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Nope 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? He does it great 9. 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" I saw commercials on FX back when it was still being called "Rampart." The show looked interesting despite my dislike of cop shows, so I decided to give it a shot. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? At first, it was that massive cliffhanger ending in Pilot. Since then, it's more about the characters and the writing. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I used to be a member of TSF. After the site was uncerimoniously shut down, I was without a place to talk Shield with my buds. I eventually tracked down a rinky-dink message board and e-mailed some TSF-ers about it, asking them to join. One of the recipients e-mailed me back with a link to this place, and thus, history was made. 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? It's hard to say. Far enough, I guess... 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I'm not at all offended by sex, language, etc. but I do think that where the FX shows pushes it should be about as far as it goes. We don't need to see all kinds of nudity or drop the F-bomb all the time to make shows edgy or entertaining. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? I didn't like many before "The Shield," but I've gotten into a few since then...does "Monk" count? 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Not especially. 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? To me, Chiklis is Vic Mackey. I didn't know he was in "The Commish" until well into the first season of "The Shield," and I've never even herad of "Daddio," so I don't really compare. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? I guess it could try to survive if Chiklis left, but I wouldn't try it. I don't think he carries the show, but he is a big part of it's appeal because he's one of the most intriguing characters. I think it's really a show about ALL of the characters, but in many ways the show is the story of Vic Mackey, one which has yet to be finished. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I haven't had too much experience with law enforcement IRL, except for traffic cops (who usually suck). I commend cops for the work they do and the danger they place themselves in (especially after seeing "The Shield"), but I don't have much of an opinion aside from that. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) Well, back in high school (which was only a couple of years ago for me), I had this friend who was also a big Shield fan. We would always hang out and watch the show and make jokes - one of them was about the blanket party. When I joined TSF, I decided "Blanket Party" was a nice Shieldian name, so I rolled with it.

Greetings and salutations from yet another newbie. Here are my answers to the icebreaker questions: 1. How did you find out about "The Shield?"A few of my friends have been bugging me to give The Shield a try for a couple of years now. I've resisted -- I had too many TV shows on my plate already to bring another one into the fold... but yet about a year ago, they had season 1 of The Shield on sale. I bought it, but never watched it. AGain, didn't want to be sucked in. This past weekend, one of these friends was talking about how much they were looking forward to the Season Premiere of The Shield... and I decided... what the heck. Let me put it to you this way -- I started watched season 1 on Tuesday afternoon, and I finished last night. I get this way. Obsessed. So now I am on the hunt for the rest of the seasons, and will buy them as time and money allow. My goal is to be caught up before the premiere next month. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? For me to be hooked on a show, there have to be a couple of different factors. I need broadly painted characters that are 3 dimentional. I like to take them down, and look at them from all angles and realize that there is more than what is shown at the surface. Check, The Shield has that. I need the show to make me laugh at times. The Shield does that. I need the show the draw me in so that I don't even realize the episode is over. Check off another one for The Shield. So I have to say that there are many elements that have drawn me in. All of these combined are keeping me wanting more. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? When I first start watching a show I really like, I become a wee bit obsessed. So I did a google search. I believe the search terms I used were: "The Shield" fans. I found this place, and registered. I don't know if I will be participating much yet -- I am usually a little bit shy at first when it comes to message boards. But I'll pipe in now and again. 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? As much as it takes. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?I like the fact that The Shield goes there -- I think that it adds to the realism. Of course, there's always that bit of shock value when you first hear cursing coming out of your TV set, but I think that after a certain time at night, and with proper warnings, there is nothing wrong with TV "going there". 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?I'm a fan of the Law & Order shows. Also, a die-hard Third Watch fan. I still run a pretty major Third Watch message board, and I'm friendly with a handful of actors from the show. So that's what I'd better say. I also like Boston Legal. 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?Nopers. 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey?I don't know him from his other shows, but I think he is -brillliant- in this one. 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? The Shield is really not an ensamble drama, as good as the rest of the cast is. I am really not sure if the show could survive or not -- it depends on how he was phased out. 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?In reality, no one should be above the law - especially when it's for their own personal gain. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system?Well, it's the best one we've got, right? It's better than absolute or marshall law. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name My first name is Mona. My last initials are CK. Now you know the greatest secret of all time. I'm glad to be here, and am looking forward to getting to know all of you.

1.How did you find out about "The Shield?" My brother in law was watching it one night when I came home from work, It was halfway through season 1 where Gilroy has the hit and run incident. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? I love the camera work. I love the characters. The camera work just makes you feel like you are in the Barn or on the streets of Farmington 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I was just thumbing around the ¡¥net in HIGH anticipation of Season 5 4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? I think cops should do what they need to do, however I don¡¦t believe in police brutality. 5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I think the terms should be within reason. The shield does show some nudity but it isn¡¦t completely unneccassary. And I¡¦m sorry, but if you have been around a lot of cops or just any close group of friends¡Kthey al have potty mouths so the swearing is legit. I also think with the TV rating program, a 7 year old kid should not be watching the Shield in the 1st place. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? I was never into cop shows at all which makes me laugh because the Shield is my favorite show. Well I also loved Sledgehammer but that doesn¡¦t count¡K.does it? 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Not on the positive side of the law! ƒº Got a ticket for trespassing in high school, 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I have never seen him in those roles. However he was on an episode of Seinfeld (On season 1 DVD) and it is real weird. Plus he has hair in the episode. (it¡¦s the one where Jerry and Elaine get stuck at a party on Long Island) 9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? I always think of this¡K What if the kill Mackey off? What if he goes to jail? What will happen. I think that a Strike Team type spin off would be awesome. I don¡¦t think the show can survive without Mackey just like the show wouldn¡¦t be as good with only Mackey. Every character brings their own to the show in my opinion. Let¡¦s just hope Vic Mackey stays right where he is. ƒº 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I think Law enforcement is a life style we don¡¦t understand until we live it. How many times do cops go to answer a domestic abuse scene and get attacked themselves. I could never imagine always fearing for my life, thinking I may not come home that day from my job. Police brutality¡K I am against it¡Kbut I can understand how some of the rage boils over. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? I think like anything else can be corrupt when the money is right. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) I don¡¦t even know what screen name I have ƒº I think it¡¦s Xamot23. If that is the case, Xamot was a character from GI Joe and he was on my mind when I made my first AIM screen name. The 23 was my age at the time.

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" Blundered into it during S2 and got hooked.2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? The fascinating characters and the moral questions it raises - the clash of values and life's demands3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? Old friends from the late TSFans.com rousted me out of bed, slapped me around, called me an a**hole and left a throw-down gun in my room.4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? I don't have a clean answer - Chiklis raised this very question on "The O'Reilly Factor" and it really is a question that keeps me interested in the show. I don't want a police state. I value our freedoms. But what to do about sociopathic scum?5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I think it is on parents to monitor what kids watch. I like the rating system, not from a moral perspective, but because it gives me a choice..."Hmmm...nudity...do I want to watch this? Should I tell the kids to stay out of the room?" Etc.6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? The Law & Order shows this year seem to be getting really PC and preachy about it. I still watch some old NYPD Blue, but TS is about it right now.7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? I majored in Political Science with main focus on the criminal justice system. Internships in Court Administration and Crime Victim Assistance. Chaplain work with emergency services, including the police. While in the military, I almost shot a civilian while guarding an ammunition site...gave me an appreciation of the split second decisions the police have to make. 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? Certainly his best role, both in terms of his work and the material.9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? IMO, Vic is the heart of the show. Would tank without him. Geez, Wiseguy couldn't survive without Ken Waal...10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? Cops experience a side of life and live in a subculture that few of us understand. I think that a very few account for most corrupt acts, in much the same way as most major crime is committed by a minority of the population. 11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? I have faith in our American Criminal Justice System. It has its flaws, but I second the lime green opinion.12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) I am 1/2 Armenian and spent most of my life in L.A., so the whole money train/Margos arc was too good to pass up.

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?"I saw the original FX previews for it on television and watched the pilot when it premiered. So I've been watching since day one and have been hooked ever since.2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most?I just think that it is a very good, very interesting television show. The characters are amazing and I love watching them interact with each other, and the storylines are intriguing and interesting as well. It keeps me entertained, which is something that few fictional shows can claim these days.3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join?Well, I saw it being linked from the IMDB forum so I've been lurking around for a bit. I decided to join when I realised you had to become a member to see all of the forums. Years ago I used to be very, very active on the OLD shieldfans.com forum but I've gotten out of the whole posting in forums thing for a while now, and I'm just slowly coming back.4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? At the risk of sounding flaky or indecisive, I think that a lot of it depends on the situation. But it's a very loaded question...for me it comes down to what is more important, personal safety or personal freedom, and I'm never sure enough to answer that question definitively for myself.5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?Again I think that it depends on the situation, such as the time of day. What I see as being acceptable for late night is a far cry from what I would consider acceptable for Saturday morning, etc. etc. I think though that really that's the only concern that I have, as beyond that I don't see why such things like language or nudity should be banned completely just because it's basic/broadcast cable. That isn't to say that I think that something like hardcore pornography on television is at all acceptable, even on expanded cable, but then as I see it if I don't like it I don't have to watch it. So really it doesn't affect me at all, and other than the time constraints I don't see any reason why some things have to be limited. Also television shows, in America at least, come with ratings just like films now and those ratings are there for a reason. Perhaps people should pay more attention to them?6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like?Call me old fashioned, but I still do enjoy watching Law & Order. Call me really old fashioned, but I also enjoy Dragnet and Perry Mason. Sometimes I'll catch Homicide: Life on the Street every once in a while, but I really don't watch that much to be honest. Oh, and I hate, hate, hates C.S.I.. I hates it forever. 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system?....... Moving on for the moment... ;;8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? At first I was shocked; I grew up watching The Commish so it was a huge shock for me to see Michael Chiklis as this skinhead lookin', LA tough guy, gangland cop ruling over all. But all in all, I think he does a wonderful job portraying Mackey as this street hardened, ass kicking, gang thrashing cop while still being a very human and even sympathetic character at the same time. Vic still is an ass sometimes though, but that's okay because he's Vic.9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left?I want to say no, not only because Michael Chiklis/Vic Mackey is the mainlining actor/character of the show, but also because I see The Shield as such an ensemble show to begin with and I can't imagine any of the core characters leaving without causing some major changes. Especially if the biggest core character of them all, which Vic clearly is, left the show. As for the second part of the question, this might be personal bias speaking but I'd have to go ahead and say that if anyone had the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis hypothetically left, god forbid, it would be Jay Karnes as Dutch. He's carried a few storylines on his own without needing Mackey around, and Dutch is an interesting character to me all around. But again, I may just be personally biased. Also, that isn't me saying that I think that Dutch could carry the show in the unthinkable situation that Michael Chiklis would leave – I don't think that any of them could realistically, even though many of them are very powerful, very talented actors – just that out of all of the characters left I feel that he would have the best chance at it.10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law?I usually don't, to be honest. Mostly because I'm too busy concerning myself with other things to actively think about something that I have very little personal contact with, despite how influential and important it is in my daily life anyway. So in my case, ignorance is bliss. As far as my opinion as to what percentage of real cops think they are above the law goes, I think that I'm not at all qualified or knowledgeable about such things to really make any sort of statement to that end. Maybe a lot, maybe a little, but who am I to say?11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system?Could be better, could also be worse. It has problems and isn't perfect, but who's is? So I don't complain...much.12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick?Jinjoo is my Korean given name, but the two Os look stupid, rah! Hence the modification of jinjue. Simple, non?

Yeah, welcome jinjue. Your answers were well thought-out. I am also a big time Law and Order Junkie and just this morning saw a post from the owner of a yahoo group that I belong to in which she was lamenting the fact that people haven't been posting much. The home page is tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/lawandorderaddicts/ (perfect for L&O junkies, right?) and the link for subscribing is at the bottom of the page. It's a small, very friendly group and discussion can be on any or all of the L&Os--you can chat about offsubject things, too, if you want to. My roommate and good friend in college was Korean ... well, he still is, I guess, heh. I learned how to grill a pretty mean bulkogi, if I do say so myself, thanks to him and love Korean food in general, BBQ in particular. Kimchee is a favorite of course! If you decide to sign up and L&O addicts, make sure you tell Michelle that chem sent you.
