Hmmm, I went there and when I clicked on Promosode, nothing with anything arm wrestling appeared. It was just a conversation between Vic and Acevada about the redistricting project. You can also view it on my MY-SPACE PAGE SMOKE-DOG. Page down three times and a window for the promosode should be viewable, click play video and enjoy. Ok, I found it this time! It's not bad--though very sad for Lem. I wish I had seen this when it was made available. I would have understood even more Vic's rage at how Lem was so totally disgraced, esp when he died for no reason at all.
Yeah, I want Shane DEAD.

When people smoke, it affects everyone in the room. When I eat an entire banana cream pie, it only affects ME. I think if people want to smoke, they should smoke in their own homes, in their own cars (with the windows up, keeping the butts in their ashtrays), or halfway down the block away from the entrance to my office blg. It's not just the smoker's health that's in question; it's the health of everyone who is forced to inhale the disgusting crap. Yes!!! Well stated E! One of my BIGGEST pet peeves is how INCREDIBLY selfish some people are to smoke right in front of buildings! If I don't hold my breath then I make a POINT to cough just to show them how others don't appreciate having to suffer because of their bad choices. I don't blame ALL smokers, my best friend smokes (though trying to quit) but she NEVER smokes around me because she knows how I feel about it. Call me crazy, but I don't see the appeal of even starting. We all know the risks and we know people are more likely to get addicted than not to, and still some waste their money on those cancer sticks?! Fine, let them slowly kill themselves, just don't bring me down with you! Ahem. Let me say first that I smoke *maybe* one cigarette every two or even three weeks and at that a Ginny Slims, so I don't really qualify as "smoker". Second, I don't want *any* smoking in restaurants, where imho it really matters most. Frankly, a quality restaurant wouldn't allow smoking at all. Bars should be able to allow smoking throughout their facility if they want to, perhaps with some regulations about a proper ventilation system.
But I just don't see how someone smoking *outside* is going to harm anyone. If the smoker is actually standing in front of the door, it seems more likely your injury would come from running into them, not occasionally walking by a little smoke. Industrial pollution is a way bigger threat to your health and that from cars esp. Should we ban cars next?
I think it's getting a little out of control to ask a couple of smokers to stand a half-block's distance (or often more) from the entrance. And now some places won't even allow smoking outside.
I think we should worry a lot more about alcohol abuse in this country. I'm all for banning it at football and baseball games, for example. And concerts. I've had terrible experiences at all three thanks to drunk assholes. I wonder how the hell they ever made it home without killing someone.

IAR and E - I really could not agree with you more.
Smoking is an absolutely ridiculous, disgusting habit to have.
The most common justification is that "it calms me down - it makes me feel good" etc. The only reason it makes them feel good is because it stops their craving - a craving only experienced because their addicted and that non-smokers don't experience. Essentially their paying to feel normal and only started in the first place in order to look "cool".

Holy smoke! (pun intended), did this thread set off a firestorm or what? Getting back to the original topic, I remember when the Parents Television Council raised a major stink over The Shield, specifically, and among other shows. The argument that what kids have access to can't be controlled 100% of the time (i.e., they can just go to a friend's house and watch there) might have had some validity at one time, but not anymore. Say hello to the V-chip, folks. Hell, Cox cable constantly puts up PSAs about how parents can block channels they don't want their kids to access. I'm sure satellite has similar controls. So, then it becomes a matter of using it on your own system and checking with the parents of friends and telling them to do the same. And if the kids STILL find a way to scam their parents, which I guarantee some will ... well, I guess it then comes down to trust between parent-child and knowing that there is no way to completely shield them (another pun ) from the "bad" things in life, is there? Reminds me of a hilarious comedian I saw on a talk show last week ... wish I could remember his name. He said (paraphrasing) "my kid said she really hates school, the subjects are a bunch of crap and her teacher is a complete idiot who is out to get her ... not what you want to hear when your kid is home-schooled."

**looks around TSR to see if anyone is giving a rat's ass bout these terds or what they have to say and doesn't see any**
F those guys. No way are they going to be able to affect S7. I'm not a smoker either but smoking bans run a tight race with seatbelt laws as far as stupidity goes. I don't like eating around a bunch of smoke and will avoid it like the plague if at all possible. But if I go to a bar, I expect it. Do I like it? No. But I deal with it because the +'s outweigh the -'s IMO. I'm not the one who put up X amount of $$$ for the business and I have no business telling that owner how to run their place. They can allow it or not allow it as they see fit. People don't HAVE to patronize the place and folks don't HAVE to work there. Same with any music and/or TV show. Control what your kids watch and if you yourself don't like what's on, watch something else. It's not F'n rocket science! I detest most rap, the dixie chicks, and HGTV but I don't listen to or watch any of their crap. I know how to use a radio AND a tv dial. These A-holes need to learn to do the same.

** pats ShootFirst on the back ** This bit here kills me..... p6.tech.re4.yahoo.com/blogs/devlin/12132The Senate Commerce Committee has been holding TV violence hearings to figure out how to curtail violent content from being aired on broadcast and cable stations. Sen. John D. (Jay) Rockefeller (D.-W.Va.) took center stage with the argument this week, deciding the best course of action was to show a crude scene from the FX network's The Shield that aired on C-Span at 10:35 a.m in the morning. Did he really not see the irony in this?

I knew there was a reason I stayed away from this thread....that article really pisses me off beyond words, I must say. My god, I hate right wing conservative types who just can't stand to let people live their own lives. And as far as smoking goes, I need a cigarette. In fact, I can barely see my computer screen due to all the lingering second hand smoke I'm producing.

The article pisses me off too... JR needs to stop acting like an over-the-top control freak and behave more like a democrat. As far as smoking goes.... Gr. There are regulations and limits on pollution created by chemical plants, manufacturing, automobiles, sewers, etc.... all to protect the general public from harm. Why then are people allowed to walk down the sidewalks of my town or stand in front of my office building smoking cigarettes?? And throwing their butts on the ground or out their car windows!!! My county banned smoking in county buildings and restaurants, and a few cities are considering banning smoking ANYWHERE within their city limits, except inside single-family dwellings (houses). Smoking around children should be considered abusive, imho. I suffered through BOTH my parents smoking throughout my ENTIRE childhood.
