Is it just me or does anybody else think that that photo of Terry with that little bullet hole in his cheek look too clean every time you see it. OVER and OVER we see Terry with this nice little spot on his cheek and blood around his head. Wouldn't that shot have done more severe damage in reality?

OVER and OVER we see Terry with this nice little spot on his cheek and blood around his head. Wouldn't that shot have done more severe damage in reality? Oh, I wish our CSI, Teri, was around for this one! I can only speak from viewing volumes of crime scene and autopsy photos... It depends entirely on the caliber, angle, and distance. I've seen pics with neat, tiny round bullet holes on one side...but the back of the object is blown out. Sometimes the hole is ragged, sometimes burned (tattooed). Teri could explain the mechanics!
The hole didn't bother me about Terry's pic but I *hated* his silly peaceful expression. If you go all out on rape scenes, and the psychological brutality stuff, why not have a realistic death mask? Eyes open, grimacing. That would have so much more impact than the peaceful-looking, slightly smiling expression he has. I've never understood The Shield taboo on this. None of the dead ever really look dead. Like the grenade victims last ep. Bloody, a little mangled... but facially, they all look like they belong in a commercial for Serta Perfect Sleepers!!
Maybe Chem can ask Glen why they avoid more realistic death expressions.

Part of Terry's expression could be the fact that he knew he was into some shit with Vic. I think he probably had a sneaking suspicion that Vic knew he was "dirty" and that one day Vic could be coming for him. So maybe it wasn't a real surprise for Terry in his final moments that Vic had a gun in his face.
As for the bullet hole, the first time I saw that scene I was like "wow." and then never stopped to think about it. But yeah, that shot was pretty close-ranged. You'd think at some point they'd show us a picture of half of Terry's skull missing and his brains splattering out the backside.

I hate it when people analyze the show like this, somtimes people do die looking peaceful, somtimes they dont. Any one remember in episode 12 two days of blood in season 1 when the woman was dead in the sink and it looked like her arm was shoved in the garbage disposal and torn to pieces.

Not really, the bullet went in his face. Now the back of his head will have a bigger whole. It also depends on the type of gun.

I don't know about the others who posted in this thread, but I am not "analyzing the show like this" It's just side bar commentary... about the mechanics, methods, angles, settings, locations, etc. And, yes, I do get annoyed when the dead don't look dead. I've seen a very few dead who didn't at least have their eyes open. Almost always...esp in surprise death. That peaceful shit comes later, after the coroner and the funeral have messed with the corpse to make it more aesthetically acceptable. Shows like CSI have taken the portrayal of death to a new and delightfully realistic level. Why can't a show like The Shield?? It's a genuine question for me... why the hell can't the dead look dead? It's something I'd like to ask Glen... who decides how the bodies look? What are the restrictions you're working under? I should prob post this in the questions to Glen thread!

Not really, the bullet went in his face. Now the back of his head will have a bigger whole. It also depends on the type of gun. At that close of a range, a S&W 1911 .45 would do a hell of a lot more damage than that. Even if the entry hole is relatively smooth, the slug itslef is bigger. We saw not exit material in the back of the head. The hole and blood trickle looked like he got it from a nothing more than a .22 pop gun. He almost looked to still be alive when he "fell" too and grimicing in pain. That also never seemed realistic at all to me.

It's not so much about the look on his face, it's more like the little dot on his cheek after being shot at point blank range. His jaw would have been gushing blood.

He would have looked peaceful coz there was no time to react. He turned to face Vic and -bang- he was a gonner! But I always find it wierd how his eyes slowly close afterwards - if we're 'analysing' it lol!

I just watched this ep last night on DVD, the entry wound looked consistent with a 9mm round. Whether this was a hollow point or full metal jacket would determine the damage on the exit wound. The 9mm would probably be the weapon of choice of your resident bangers, Vic's .45 would have made a much larger wound, but notice he used the dealer's gun...

Don't know why but I guess I completely forgot he use 2-Time's piece. You are correct in that it had to have been a 9mm if just for the size of the entry wound the slug would have made. Still didn't look realistic at all to me but I stand corrected in the weapon used. Good call.

I guess I never really thought about the size of the hole, not because I didn't notice it, but I assumed that some guns/bullets leave a big hole and some don't. With the little trickle of blood, I just assumed that if he were to be turned over, there'd be a much bigger mess.
I've seen quite a few photographs of people who've died due to lead in the head, and I've actually been surprised at how small the hole, and how little blood, there was. Granted, I don't know anything but the basics about calibers and such (like, the bigger the number, the bigger the bullet, the bigger the hole), but just the traumatic sound of "died of a gunshot wound to the head" lead me to expect a bigger mess.
I guess I didn't question his facial expression either. I assumed there that he hadn't been expecting to be shot (obviously), and didn't have time to be surprised or to recoil. And by the time the bullet entered his brain, it had already done enough damage that the facial expression he wore when he turned around to look into the bathroom was the last one he'd ever make.
The peaceful gaze in his open eyes, to me, seemed a reflection of that. I was under the impression that no matter what he looked like, he wasn't really "seeing" anything. But then again, if I remember correctly, they had the perspective shot from the floor, with Shane and Vic looking down at him, so maybe he was "seeing".
Question: When people have seen death faces that were much more grimace-y, was that right after death, or when the eyeballs have had a chance to collapse back into the skull and the jaw and facial muscles begin to seize? That can give a deceased person's face a much more animated expression than is actually reflective of their reaction to getting snuffed.

There was an officer in a nearby town who got shot in the face in the exact spot as Terry and though I did not see the shot officer, I was told that he did bleed, but the bullet wound was about as big as Terry's.
That officer lived BTW.

Something that has always bothered me about that picture: Vic called 911 after Terry was shot and he was taken to the hospital AND HE DIED THERE. So, why would there be a crime scene photo of Terry at all? And since someone brought it up, what kind of gun did 2time have? I never really paid attention but my guess from what I remember is a glock.

And since someone brought it up, what kind of gun did 2time have? I never really paid attention but my guess from what I remember is a glock. Being a bit of a gun afficianado, I thought I recognized the gang-banger's gun as either a Kahr, an AMT, or a Star-Astra. Definitely NOT a Glock, for reasons explained below. Upon a bit of internet research, I am still not 100% sure. I'm a complete geek so I pulled up the scene on YouTube www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgHd5vKFXAo and paused it at two spots to get best look at the gun ... 1. When gang-banger is dumping his coke in the toilet you get a good side angle view, which shows a pronounced ridge between the top slide and the frame of the gun. This is very characteristic of the old Spanish-made 9mm Star/Astra Firestar M43 (see here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Firestar_M43) This viewpoint also shows beyond a doubt that the weapon has a metal frame and trigger guard, so it is definitely NOT a Glock ... Glocks can be had with a nickel-plated upper slide, but the frame is always black polymer. 2. But, when viewing the gun just before and just after Vic fires it to kill Tery, the top slide appears extremely square and top heavy, which points to a Glock-style top slide. Since the frame color already rules out a Glock, this could point to one of the larger Kahr K-series weapons (which come in 9mm, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP). www.kahr.com/PA-1_9mm_k.html Anyone else out there have some gun ID expertise and want to give this a closer look and provide other possibilities?

After reviewing the scene @ n00b's yt-link and stoping while two-time was flushing the coke and while he was going down, I tend to say it was some gun of Kahr's K9 series. I'm definitely into guns, maybe not THAT into guns like n00b... To state my opinion I'll focus the trigger guard! Would say it was pretty square cut, way to squary (is that in the english language??? no native speaker, sry...) for the Firestar.
No need to talk about the massive top slider again, right? I think n00b pointed that out very well!

It looks a lot like a SIG P228 to my eyes.
