There are not that many extras. I hope Sony let's us enter an exchange program where we can get a cut on the price of the set if we return the different seasons, but I don't think that will happen. I hope they add a set of play cards to the set. Check Shawn Ryan's Twitter for the reason why The Shield won't be out on Blu-Ray: twitter.com/ShawnRyanTV/

I finally decided to purchase Season 7 when I could find it for $25, brand new, factory sealed. But it's been disappointment after disappointment ever since I picked it up about an hour ago. Really cutting down my excitement, unfortunately.
First point isn't exactly relevant to The Shield in any way..but painful, regardless. I ordered it online and had it shipped to the store to pick it up. Upon receiving the item, there was a gash about an inch long on the bottom right of the front cover, had cut through the seal and left an indention the majority of the length, a couple centimeters worth of white on the edge. I'm a quality freak, so it really bugged me. Thought about turning around and shoving it back in their face, demanding another copy.
But, regardless, I pushed on. I figured I would live, and that the $25 was worth it, even though it'd probably get cheaper in the coming months (Black Friday). But, to my incredible amount of disappointment, the Season 7 DVD release lacks "Previously on The Shield" segments. I mean, come on now. It's the last god damn season. You've got to be kidding me. I have Seasons 1-6, every single episode has the Previously on The Shield segment. They only have one release of Season 7, and it lacks them? Jesus. What's the deal?
I'll need verification on whether or not "The Shield: Complete Series" has all of the Previously on The Shield segments or not. If it doesn't, I'm honestly speechless. If it does, I guess I'll be selling my individual collection and purchasing the series box set.

I'm not sure if the "The Shield: Complete Series" will have the items. From what I got I think all current 28 DVDs will be shipped as they are now and 1 new DVD will be added.
Let me start with the content being great though. Never seen so much behind-the-scenes extras and all other things that are mostly very interesting. So the content is cool, but the DVDs are put together way too messy.
Sony made a mess of the DVDs. They are inconsistent and things are missing, subtitles are sometimes included for commentary, sometimes not or at times only in certain languages depending on your region. Some subtitles are missing completely (Spanish subtitles on the S7 region 1 DVD are just an example of that). Extra content is in the opposite aspect ratio of the episodes. At least that's the case on the European DVDs. For example, Shawn Ryan says that the deleted scenes are in widescreen, but on the widescreen DVDs the episodes are in widescreen and all the extras in fullscreen, so is "Wins & Losses" (it's a big shame). I'm not sure if that same problem occurs in the USA as well, but it's pretty messed up. And on the region 2 DVD for season 5 (Great Brittain, Netherlands, Belgium + few other countries) they cut off 20 minutes from 5.11. Sony never comments on it unfortunately.

If I had to guess, the Complete Series boxset will contain the exact same DVDs as their series releases and that the only difference will be any extra discs and packaging. Sony owns MGM, who released the Stargate SG-1 boxset. It was basically the original sets repackaged with some extra discs.... I'm getting it for my Birthday next month so I'll let you know....

I'm getting it for my Birthday next month so I'll let you know.... Thanks man, always appreciated. Such a disappointment. I agree with you, mystery. The Shield DVD releases truly have been inconsistent, through Fox and Sony. It's ridiculous.

I should have mine on Monday so will report in - the packaging looks incredible - I'm sort of a purist re the aspect ratio since that's how they frame shots (at least based on the set visit I got) but maybe the widescreen will give the first season a whole new look

I've ordered mine - I'm in the UK so won't get it until middle/late November. As theUK DVD's were horribly butchered, I'd recommend the R1 box set to anyone.
The only thing I'm not looking forward to, is Sony seem to have pages and pages of disclaimers that come up before each and every episode and it is really very annoying.

got my box set this morning
nice, colorful plastic slipcase - the package itself is like a coffee table book with a pic of Vic on the front along with an embossed fragmented badge, inside cover has a panoramic shoot of Vic overlooking nighttime LA; the next pages are like a bulletin board with a short note from SR; S1 occupies four pages - some random pics and two pages of Aceveda and his mayoral campaign; S2 has two pages of Dutch complete w/ DingDongs and two pages of Claudette; S3 is Michael Jace (some interesting stuff there - in my eyes the failure to flesh out his story was a great oversight in the last season) and two pages of Danny; S4 is pretty cool, Monica and Antwon with a neat map of Farmington in the background; S5 is Forest Whitaker and snaps of the Strike Team on his bulletin board, complete with chewing gum, ha ha plus two pages of Lem (very poignant); S6 is Shane and his evidence box and two pages of Billings (pretty funny stuff); S7 is Vic's family and Ronnie, with a pic of a red-hot electric burner, ha ha; and the last two pages are a series of snaps and the bonus disc with the 'Rampart' featurette ("documentary on the police scandal that inspired The Shield") and 'A Place We Called Home" ("A look back on the set of The Shield) and the back inside is another nighttime panorama of LA but with no Vic
all in all, a very nice package - too bad they aren't signed or at least numbered a la the Blade Runner briefcase
will probably watch the two docs first - if anyone has any specific questions until you get yours, let me know
also, I still have one each of S1-S6 for sale at a very reasonable price, some still factory sealed and some with autographed material

There seem to be scratches on DVDs for some users in the new box set. Sony set up a disc replacement program for those affected: tvshowsondvd.com/n/12914

Shawn Ryan, Chiklis and Cathy Ryan have all been "Tweeting" a lot about the Series DVD Collection...

"The Shield didn't just break the Hollywood mold; it smashed it against a wall and then beat it with its fists until it was decimated into a fine powder." Sweet. I won't get mine until ChrismHanukkah.

For Symbiote:
The boxset has the same discs that Sony released individually. The means that the problem with the Previously on The Shield segments is the same on this set. The discs have new stamps on them, but the content (menus and all) is exactly the same.
There is pretty much nothing new at all if you own the individual Sony releases. The extra DVD is not very impressive. It has a 30 minute boring feature on the real Rampart scandal and a 7 minute montage of shot of the crew dismantling the set of the Barn. I was hoping they'd at least include the online discussion videos that were on the site before Season 7. The packaging is really cool, and I like the set, but I would have been upset had I paid for it....

Thanks Jan. Just decided to check up on it today, I suppose it was good timing. That's a real disappointment. I suppose those "Previously on The Shield" segments are lost forever..unless I make a shotty bootleg of Season 7 with the recorded versions of the episodes on torrents. I have absolutely no idea what they were thinking.
Again, appreciate it. Can't believe I'm left feeling like I don't own the entire series.

fyi: for those of you who don't already have it, Costco has the Shield boxset for $60 - that's like $30 less than Amazon
