Rather than air a complete season of The Shield once Nip/Tuck finishes up its run, FX has decided to run a strike-shortened 7 episode season of Dirt starting March 2. I must say that this decision stuns me. When you only have one show with a full season ready to air, why would you choose to air an incomplete season of another show instead? It just seems to be going against the most basic logic. This news means that season 7 won't start until late April at the earliest. www.variety.com/article/VR1117978719.html?categoryid=14&cs=1

But March 2nd is a Sunday. The Shield generally airs on Tuesdays. Eh, whatever. It's still inexcuseable how long we not only have to wait for The Shield, but for even a mentionn of a start date. It pisses me off.

Actually, my understanding is that they haven't put the finishing touches on the Shield's series finale, so it isn't technically done ... at least not the way Shawn Ryan would like to see it.
The silver lining with not starting TS until April, for me, anyway, is that a finale watch party will be much more feasible for me to attend in the summer than the spring.

I think Chemikalman is right.... I've heard the finale isn't finished yet... IMO they are waiting for the strike to end and then will revise a bit... just my opinion though!

I don't mind it though, as long as it's better than last season...

I think you hit the nail on the head: the damn show isn't done. WGA is f*cking everything up, isn't it? Then again, the idiotic pricks in charge of studios are f*cking everything up, aren't they? Stop watching reality TV, America, and these fat old men will take notice! I digress.
Yes, chem, you are correct, I would assume THE SHIELD has not been green lit (har har) for an end date because Mr. Ryan wants to make sure he touches the finale (and more) before it goes to press.

I think it's great that they're holding off. It would be f-ing outrageous to end a fantastic series with a crappy ending just because no one's around to make sure it transfers to film the way it's intended. I'd rather wait until August if need be to make sure the ending is quality and righteous...not some cop-out bullshit like the Sopranos. Hell, it could be *next* spring for all I care, as long as it's the ending this series deserves.
But what then of TSR? I've been wondering what will become of it, though I'm always way ahead of things to come. Just curiosity, I suppose.

YEAH I RATHER HAVE SHAWN RAYN PUT THE FINISHING TOUCHES ON THA FINALE RATHER THAN JUST PUTTIN IT OUT THERE. BUT WAITING ON THE STRIKE TO END IS KRAZY BECAUSE I REALLY DONT SEE A END TO IT. THEY ALREADY CANCELED THE GOLDEN GLOBES AND EVEN SOON THE OSCARS.

I suppose it aint that bad. If Dirt was a full season, The Shield wouldn't be shown until June April 15th(the tuesday after Dirt ends) sounds a bit better

I get the feeling we won't see The Shield AT ALL this year.

I heard a good 6 episodes of the show haven't had adequate sound mixing added yet. And the finale hasn't been edited. The show isn't as finished as we thought, and FX, I'm assuming, would at least hold it until it is finished and everything is smooth.

I get the feeling we won't see The Shield AT ALL this year. No, no, no. Don't give up hope. We will, but not when we thought. Painful enough this is the final season, though, without adding this agony of the unknown!

Well, I thought the strike was not going to go past Christmastime but then the studio bosses more or less said, "We're not budging, nyah, nyah, nyah," and both sides became more and more entrenched.
Reality TV is the blow, though, that has made the strike go on longer than I ever predicted it would. Too many Americans just love their reality TV so the incentive to end the strike doesn't really exist.
However, a deal *is* close now (it's not just speculation, in Hollywood it's more or less "fact," or at least as close to being "fact" as Hollywood could ever be involved in) and the writers will almost surely go back to work before February ends. They won't get what they wanted but they'll get the best deal they've ever had.
I suspect The Shield will start in April just like last year. For one thing, FX has done zip to promote it thus far. At this point, I want the *FINAL SEASON* to receive as much everlasting hype as FX can dish out for it, so I'd rather wait two months or more and let them promote the hell out of the show in doing so than just throwing it on the air without the necessary pre-season hoopla and hype.
I remember last year it was the first week of February when that marvelous ad with Vic and Shane standing before Lem's grave appeared on TV. I pray we get something like that in about one week from now.

Even so I would say its summer for the shield. Mainly because if the writers strike is over soon dirt can finish its season that starts in march so its forcing the shield to early summer anyway.
