From the FX website: "As the Barn mourns the loss of Lem, Vic's bloodlust for the killer puts him on a collision course with Kavanaugh. Shane's increasingly unstable and erratic behaviour concerns Vic and Ronnie. Claudette gets distressing news about the Barn's future before she's even settled into her new job as Captain. Dutch and Billings discover the gruesome San Marcos mass murder, while Julien and Tina's relationship deteriorates." From TVGuide.com: "As the sixth season opens, Vic is obsessed with finding Lem's killer, and Kavanaugh is obsessed with pinning the murder on Vic. Claudette wants Vic off the case, so she assigns the team to a fire at a methadone clinic. She also tells him the brass wants him to retire. Meanwhile, Shane is behaving erratically; Corinne confronts Danny; Julien and Tina respond to a robbery at a porn shop; and Dutch comes across a crime scene so gruesome that even veteran cops have trouble stomaching it." "On The Jones" was written by Kurt Sutter and directed by Michael Fields. ======================================== Was this a good opener for Season 6? Was it what you expected? kav must be destroyed... the dude's a monster... and shane offering himself up was one of the darker shield moments

The episode was great. I have to say my favorite scene was when Claudette told the three of them that Lem hadn't cut a deal. Goggins played that scene so well. Shane's crazy behavior is really interesting. I'm sure I'm in the minority here but I think Shane is really misunderstood among most of the fans. Shane's head has been screwed up since the moment Vic pulled the trigger on Terry. Of course Shane is ultimately the one responsible for Lem's death but a look at the big picture shows that it goes deeper than that. As far as Kavanaugh goes, he's obviously gone off the deep end by resorting to framing Vic. It's kind of ironic that he has to frame as dirty a cop as Vic. I'm almost sad to see Kavanaugh go this route but it makes for a very good story.

Great episode, but the song in the montage was originally "Hurt" by Johnny Cash. I don't know why it was changed, but I would have liked "Hurt" better. Still, great episode. Drama brewing with Kavanaugh's obsession into Vic, Dutch has a new case, and Vic's on the prowl.

Well, I guess this episode is going convert anyone who was still on the ropes about whether or not to hate Kavanaugh. His "nothing personal" line at the end might be the most ironic line in the show's history.
However, Kavanaugh not being able to look at his own reflection at the end was a very nice touch.

Where did Kavanaugh frame Vic? Was it at his house? It couldn't be because at that moment Vic was there with Corrine.

Vic was at Corrine's house, not his own house. That's why Kavanaugh told him that there were uniforms waiting at his home. He wanted to make sure Vic wasn't there when he planted the evidence.

If this episode was to set the tone for the season, we are in for one helluva ride! This is awesome. Don't worry, Vic will deal with nutcase Kavanaugh!!

I love Walton Goggins. As such, every scene with Shane was incredible. When he started pouring the gasoline on himself, my heart broke for the turmoil he was going through. Ditto with him finding out that Lem didn't turn... his distant look and slow steps were killer. Man, such powerful stuff.

A+ Wow. Just wow... Great season opener! I kinda knew what to expect, but seeing it written down in the writers' room is really different from seeing the actors bring it all to life. I'm blown away by the intensity of this ep. The 21 Gun Salute was pretty cool. I'd seen it in the previews, but that didn't lessen the impact of the scene. Shane stole the show for me. Man, Walton is tops -- just a really great actor. Watching him learn that Lem didnt' turn on them was a slow burning spiral down into the depths of regret and guilt.... I think that's the most memorable moment of this ep for me. The way he just became numb and walked out of the Barn is haunting me. How can I feel sorry for Shane after over a year of hating him?! Damn this show! Interesting that Danny caught Shane in the parking lot before he could eat his gun.... made me think of her finding Tommy out there.. And then Shane goes and nearly sacrifices himself to save the baby in the clinic. Boy has a death wish; his guilt is gonna drive him mad. Kav is going insane... he couldn't nail Vic for Terry or anything else, so he's planting evidence to frame him for Lem's murder. And he got that bitch whore Emolia to lie for him.... I knew she'd do anything for money, but jeeeeez. What a total bitch!! I'm glad Dutch isn't buying it.... Also glad Dutch let Vic know what Kav was up to. Vic and Aceveda's scene in the bathroom -- I had my fists clenched, wishing Vic would just deck his ass! Claudette is finding her way as captain... Julien was his usual self; visiting Lem's grave at the end was sweet. Tina evidently grew some balls during the hiatus - I thought she was gonna shoot taht kid! And Ronnie just looks hot! "On The Jones" might refer to the junkie at the clinic? Heh... maybe it's a reference to how long we fans have been "Jonesing" for some new Shield eps!!

If you listen to the lyrics of the Johnny Cash, you find that it actually makes a better fit than Hurt would. I liked it.
Also, is anyone really surprised that Aceveda did what he did? Also, let's not forget that while Lem was a good person, he was not an innocent one. He still was dirty-just much less so than the others.
Killer episode but I refuse to feel sorry for Shane no matter what. Whether it was Lem or someone else, what he still did was wrong. After all, as I said during the chat, the worst enemy to have is one you call your friend. Lem learned that only too late and Vic's about to find that out the hard way himself sooner or later. I do have to give props to Walton though-if he doesn't get nominated for an Emmy for this season, head will roll
Actually, neither Vic nor Kavanaugh could look at themselves in the mirror. This episode's theme was pretty much about self obsession. Vic's obsession with catching Lem's killer and his rage blinding him; Kavanaugh's need to catch him blinding him to what he's becoming and Shane's guilt bringing him to do things he never though he'd do and readily put himself in harm's way. But Aceveda is right about one thing...Vic never takes responsilibity for his own actions-but then neither does Aceveda. But then again, they are only human.
Those San Marcos murders...did Dutch have to turn on the light switch? That was not pretty.
Everything will start to crumble for the Strike Team-it had to eventually. Except for maybe Ronnie...it could be the revenge of the redshirt after all.

I gave it a B. Good ep, esp for first one of a season. Lots of set up, but you know the really good stuff is yet to come!

Wow, that's some top-tier analysis there jadedgirl. I must've missed the scene where Vic couldn't look at himself in the mirror.
Another nice touch was having Danny run into Shane as he was about to kill himself. The sight of the baby reminds Shane of his wife and kid(s) and why he can't kill himself.

I gave it an A.
Watching Kavanaugh snap was mesmerizing. Forest Whittaker is such a talent. Walton Goggins too--he should get an award for this performance. But a couple of the things that kept jumping out at me was how Vic seems to be stumbling all over himself because of Lem's death. Not a in a sloppy cop kind of way but just those odd moments during the episode where it seemed he was having epiphanies--well acted indeed.
Dutch held his own tonight with both Vic and Kavanaugh better than I remember from previous seasons. I loved the line he uttered at the crime scene--same one he uttered when Danny blew off that date with him to go out with Vic. Although I was just waiting for one of those cats to scrach him and Dutch boy to strangle it... Dutch asking for that warrant on the surveillance tapes, that could be interesting in the weeks to come.
This storyline has so many layers, even the sub-plot with Dick'N'Granny tied in well to the idea that actions have consequences and the things that hurt us are often things we caused but are too blind to see it (or too wounded to admit it).

I'm confused about the last scene, with Dutch going into that house. Who was killed like that, and why? I watched it twice and I'm still not sure.
I liked the scene where Vic and the Strike Team go into the apartment and find the guy beaten, on the toilet...what he says to Shane and Ronnie about if that's the way he treats his best friend, what will he do to his enemies....see the look on Shane's face?

GREAT! EPISODE! Holy shit, that didn't disappoint.
Best parts: The 21 shot salute. That hurt to watch. RIP Lem.
Aceveda speaking out about corrupt cops and how they won't be tolerated....as they show Kav framing Vic. Then Vic's expression as he's watching. Damn, he's a great actor.
Too bad Shane didn't off himself. As much as I love/hate him on this show... that would have definitely made the investigation into Lem's murder take a turn. It'll happen. Or Vic will make it happen in the end.
There isn't a show better on tv. Ever. This is the only show that will make me sit my ass at home, no matter what's going on. Can't miss it.

I didn't catch Vic not being able to look himself in the mirror but I did catch Kav at the end not being able to. Nice work girl.
